What makes you grin? Antidote to grumpy thread

Properly weird shit today. My E46 dash has been strange for a few months, when you turn the key on -nothing, then after a couple of minutes a buzz and all is well. I checked everything and asked loads of questions and the consensus was that the cluster was on it way out. I swapped in a different cluster and that worked fine but needed to be programmed to the car. Two days ago I swapped out the heater motor hedgehog which is nowhere near the dash but after I changed it the dash was completely dead. So I went back through all the checks this morning (in a properly pissed off way). Checked the fuses first and one had blown (it was fine when I checked before), swapped it out and assumed I would be back to the weird state I had been but no, it’s all working perfectly now. Not a fucking clue how but at least it’s alright now. Electronics are dickheads. So what will I get when I turn the car on tomorrow?

emailing us cbp to try and get a straight answer about transiting the country :D

only took a week - mega conflicting info even from airlines

(not that kinda transit :P )

And a short time after twatting the Fiat with hammers I did stand (awestruck, I will confess) just feet from a thing in which three individuals braved a fiery re-entry into the Earth's atmosphere and lived to tell the tale.

I imagine it was almost as hairy as one of my 500-miles-in-a-night trips to Cardiff in the BX.

I just got 180miles (orange rangie - to - orange rangie) @£30.

1.16litre....

My brain is failing on an MPG... :(

I had two weeks to fix the mot fails in the transit. I let the first week slip by without doing anything, as per.

Thought I would break the back of it last weekend, but only got the the welding done. Shouldn't take long to pop some new brake lines on and find the problem with the back brakes, thinks I. Got a spare couple of hours on Tuesday night, should be fine.

Was it hell.

Friday was the deadline and on Thursday night at midnight I crawled out from under the bastard of a thing, covered in brake fluid, hands frozen as it was minus plenty and windy, wondering why the hell I do this to myself.

I put one new brake cylinder on but gave up with the other. It seemed to be fine anyway. Took the load sensing valve off. Gave the lever a squirt and refitted. Stripped and cleaned the self adjusters in the drums. Wrestled with the stupid shoe retaining clips and springs.

Gave up, put everything back together and went to bed. Frozen and fed up.

In the morning, I poured some snake oil in the tank, put about half a ton of breeze blocks in the back, drove to the testing place in third gear, revving the tits off it trying to burn some of the shite off that gave a 5+ reading on the emissions machine and said a little prayer to Santa Claus.

It only went and passed! Christmas miracles do happen.

Think I'll sell it now.post-5582-0-87022500-1511038371_thumb.jpg

Same rolling diameter on the new tyres? if they are bigger your speedo will underread & not show as many miles as you've really driven.

Reading an old copy of Car and saw this, no big deal, I thought, I remember a lot of scoop pics of the Sierra around. Especially after that weird aerodynamic concept ca hit the show circuit.

But, this is in October 1979! In fact the very issue that the Mk5 ( or Cortina 80) was launched, 6 page colour ad and a Giant test in which a Carlton and a Mazda 626 trounce a 2.3GL and Car call it old fashioned, but still it was the UKs best seller for another 3 years.

That is a brilliant find. The 5 door prototype isn't far off the finished article, but the 3 door looks very odd!

I have been known to wind up my colleagues from time to time and it had been my intention to let this one run it's course but... 6c82060e4a293cf6febb5f9e371f8ccc.jpg428b9f4476a68eaa8bd4129f2e846083.jpg9f9717927d6f916882f68e1c0e3e9bd7.jpg9f8c39563a053745e4842ede630f681c.jpgc9bfb243b5b3da4909e01657d48d50ac.jpg

Just a random one.

Love to see old press vehicles still knocking about.

A quick scan of eBay has revealed this '54 plate Fiesta is still going strong.

Today.

I always wanted a press vehicle for some reason, not that it's worth anything more but it's just the pub bragging rights I guess.

I’m now daddy to a healthy, beautiful baby girl as of Friday morning, grin doesn’t even cover it! Absolutely fucking ecstatic, it’s such an amazing feeling I can’t begin to describe it. Anyone who’s ever had kids will know exactly what I mean, anyone who hasn’t it’s impossible to put it into words which would give you an idea of the feeling. :D :D :D

Thanks squire!

Baby’s still in hospital with the Mrs, no issues, mainly just because she had a Caesarian section so kept in a few days so I’m enjoying my last days of freedom before they get home LOL

Congratulations Hendry! They grow up WAY too fast, so enjoy and savour every possible moment with them. I can't quite believe my little girl will be 4 next month!

Been getting REALLY annoyed with this laptop: slow, laggy and takes an age to do anything. I spent a few hours last night effing around with it - found it had a few problems: trojan viruses (X4!) and loads of other things, finally removed 81 separate things and today, it is running back to its usual Windows 10 shitness.

So that's good.

Also, the new medication 'seems' to be working :) Feel a load better physically: last night I felt ripe for a really dreadful night (pains etc) but it never developed to any great degree and so I was able to sleep without waking at ten minute intervals and I woke up at 8:00 this morning and actually felt okay! Been a LONG time since I woke up and didn't instantly want to go back to sleep or just curl up and die. Long may tis continue...

Oh, and big congrats on the birth of the next gen of Autoshiter :)

I went out to a broken down Vauxhall Movano belonging to Homeserve this morning it was still at the drivers home and displaying ''injection fault refer to workshop'' on its dash.

The Lad with it said it needed to go to the garage and i wouldn't be able to fix it...

He was probably right as Renault Diesel van and warning light usually equals recovery to workshop 99% of the time but i gave it a quick scan and pulled an exhaust temp sensor shorting fault code from it.

So i slid under it to look at the temp sensor and found this.

Good old Rodent / Fox damage.

Leccy tape followed by Gaffa tape and the scabby Vauxhall was on its way again.

Lad wasn't happy i think he was expecting a lazy day without his van.
