That is royally shit, if there is anyway I can help give me a shout. I am 3/4 of the way through mine now so have come across a few of the problems and found ways around them. I also have a limited number of panels if there is anything you are desperate for.

Thanks. I might be in need of a few bits, a good door being one though I can't remember which side at the mo...

Was that the same place that did the Mercury Dan?

Sadly, yes it was!

Credit where it's due though, they do do a good job. Very thorough it's just their prices are unbelievable. You'll pay for two or three hours for what any other place would do in an hour. progress has been incredibly slow with far too little progress made yet the bills have been eye watering! This car should be finished by now for what I've spent so far.

I've been in touch with another place fairly local who seem to know their stuff and are keen to take it on so fingers crossed it'll be getting started again by early June when they can take the car in.

I just need it painted, glass and rubbers installed, axles and wheels back on then I can bring it home and do the rest myself in my own time.

I dont have a door but do have a NoS door skin (not original Ford but good quality). I can't remember which side it is though.

I'll have a look at the car when I can and see. I've got a new skin for the saveable door but I can't remember which side door is rotten or if the frame was rotten or not.

Let me know and I will ask around the guys I know with hidden stocks and see if I can come across something.

Some of these specialists really do take the piss. I had a classic Mini mpi in the other day. It was a cooper garages special and very well loved by the owner, So much that she had it restored. They didn't touch the engine other than removing it to carry out the rebuild. 27k they charged. Yes it was a nice job but you could tell it had been restored with the visable joins where the sills were let in. It had also been looked after by another specialist for servicing, which was done a few hundred miles ago. They missed the borked water pump and didn't even try to adjust the rattling tappets. (due to the fancy roller lifters fitted by cooper garages being totally shot at 60k miles) Finding someone who will restore a car to a good standard for a sensible price is getting harder and harder and stories of jobs going wrong and customers getting ripped off is a common occurence now it seems. If you can do it yourself it really is the only way you will have the job done well and still not go bankrupt.

A fun coincidence.

Both look so dated on the H-plates, when considering what other stuff was coming out at the time.

Today’s pleasure was using the Laurel for the work commute, and when I was stuck in traffic seeing a tidy RWD X-reg Starlet on someone’s driveway. Certainly not noticed it there before, will have to see if it’s just a visitor or if it’s a new toy for them.

Yet a other cold this time loosing my voice (of course some would say that's a good thing) anyway the grin is rung a mobile mechanic yesterday to come find the hidden hand break sensor that's not working on my mk6 Fiesta.

He nearly pissed his pants when he remembered that I've got some mk1 and 2 Fiestas. He's got 3 or 4 Escorts, wanted to talk loads but as he s coming on Thursday I'm sure I'll get the full story.

That's the downside about these Hybrids, taking the batteries in each night to charge 'em.

I couldn't help myself, that's what I told the Postwoman when she asked why I was loading batteries into the V70.

In other news, that's what £48 in scrap batteries looks like- Cashback!!

Well not cash these days it had to be transferred into my bank, felt a bit odd driving a 5 year old car onto the bridge too.

Thank you for whoever did that!

Very very kind of you but i don't have a place for it at the moment.

This place is exactly what it always was 😀

Watching Father CT having the time of his life today at Mach 1, and the instructor giving up his seat to let father and son take the controls together for a few minutes.

We dropped the payload on Halifax before skimming Windermere at 600ft.

Tremendous fun.

Vulcan sim, where???

I cannot recommend this highly enough. And it does not cost as much as it ought to. I got it for my old man as he is part of the group that is trying to raise money to get the Doncaster one in the air again. It's in Bacup - a bit of a trek for many, but we'll be doing it again that's for sure.

Looks cool. I've read the pilots notes so I'm good to go!

Day off today so skanky old toilet and sink removed from our bathroom and new cupboard units fitted helped by constant banter between myself and a friend who was helping.......with new sink, loo and storage cupboard along with a new electric mirror it looks so much better. Just the bath and shower to finish at a later date...

Oh and listening to the news while we worked.....that made me grin too... :-P

I got a couple of good results today.

First, was the Volvo passing its MOT for the first time in 2 years. Brilliant result and I can now use the car.

The tester was happy with it and commented how good it was and that I'd done well with all the work I'd done on it.

Second, was that I'm now on the standby rota with work. This means I'm on a 1 in 7 standby on weekday evenings/nights and all day weekends. The pay is good and though I'm still not fully sold on the fact I'll have to get up and go to work on call one day a week it does mean that I've effectively just got myself an approx £10k per year pay increase! Not to be sniffed at!

First one is Friday 7th April, on call from 16:00 through to Saturday morning at 08:00. Hopefully I'll soon get used to doing it as the money will really come in handy.

Two amazing things happened today while Mike and I were delivering the Renault 6 doors to the new owner and collecting the fuel pump for the Princess.  The first was that I got to sit in a Rolls Royce Camargue!  Dark metallic green, tan leather interior, lovely.  The only disappointment is that I now know that I cannot drive a Camargue because of the massively offset seating position, it's as bad as a Metro but without the excuse of being a small car.  Still, a gorgeous thing that smelled fantastic, I felt very lucky.

The other amazing thing was seeing a freaking RANCHO!  Thanks to Mike's dashcam we even have proof.  I've never seen one of these in person so to see one in traffic on an average day was pretty astonishing.

Cross Cub? Someone was importing those to the UK a while back, but they came out ludicrously expensive for what they are, sadly.

Remember my parents bought that house that hadn't been decorated in 40 years and there was a horrible brown swivel chair that came with the place?

DSC_2357%20Copy.jpg

I salvaged it and put it in the 70s corner...

Also, I fixed the Rigonda. Some bright spark had cut the speaker wires despite the fact they unplug from the speakers! I used specialist techniques to fix it by cutting back the sheathing, twisting the wires together and covering everything up with electrical tape...

It has to be said that the turntable doesn't hold a constant speed, it wavers ever so slightly accompanied by a very faint metallic noise from the turntable. Problematic as I think its a direct drive machine, still fairly impressive it works at all after 40 years given I don't think it was a very expensive thing even when new!
