You're not far from the land of the Monkey Hanger. Expect the Unexpected.

As for grinnage, went to see my tame body repair chap today who gave me a remarkably sensible quote for cutting out and replacing both rear arches on the Jag (and painting' em).

It'll be properly mint if I do that, so I will.

Stockton-On-Tees.

Do people there still commute to work on horseback?

Horseback or 25 year old ambulances as far as I can tell. There's three running around at the minute, I'll see if I can get some snaps if I get a chance.

At the height of World War II on April 6th, 1943, British Ambassador to Moscow, Sir Archibald Clark Kerr, wrote the following letter to Foreign Office minister Lord Reginald Pembroke in an effort to brighten up his day. Proof - as if it were needed - that name-based punnery and mild xenophobia did a roaring trade long before the internet was fired up.

I've just been into clearance bargains (It's where Argos send the returns and didn't sells) - Big pile of fancy dress at the mo, they have Leatherface outfits (complete with mask, wig and apron) and just up the isle is a selection of petrol chainsaws.

PS, if you think stockton on tees is a bit pikey try North Durham. They still break horses by chaining them to a log and going for a drag up the high street round here. Guy up the road from me keeps a goat in his garden. Honestly. :?

what's wrong with that? :?

It escapes, and eats peoples washing. I have nothing against the goat per se, I'm not goatist at all, but its just wierd. Plus it has that whole "head of satan" thing going on, and is the same size/colour as our dog so I once scared myself half to death whilst wandering around the village with a torch looking an escaped canine.

I'm happy today as I've just bought a new car to replace my dead Passat :D

It's all seems very nice, much better then the photos, It's a little more leggy then my last one but it has full service history and seems to drive very well, 6 speed box is a novelty, The garage is also giving it a full serive and valet in the price, I don't feel to bad done by for the money.

On anthor note i also spotted the Granada Dicky was talking about the other day that's for sale, It's a 2.8 GL auto, Bodywork looks a bit tatty and it also loots to have been sat there for a while but it is taxed, no idea on the price though.

My friend has a Bora like that, except it's a 115. Lovely car with oodles of power and that sixth cog is great for cruising. Shame they're a bit cramped though.

That's the Grandad Trig! Give them a ring, you never know...

Did you spot the tat hiding in the yard behind the garage?

This is the 130 bhp but seems to pull like a train, you can really feel the different to my 115 bhp Passat which it's self was quite pokey. And as it's only me and the wife (and the dog) it should be big enough.

Dicky - The granny wasn't really my bag, not know why, I just wasn't 'feeling it' plus i can't buy anything old at the moment due to having to spend the money i saved to replace my main car, I'm hoping the whiplash payout will be enough to replacing my classic car money.

Is that Granny parked up at the Devil's Handbasin garage near Diss? Road junction looks familiar in that picture.

I don't know the name but it's the Gulf garage on the A140 before the roundabout on the left as your driving towards Norwich.

Bora looks good Trig. They are essentially the same as the Toledo, I've had mine three and a bit years and think it's superb. Really comfy - 1000 miles to South of France in a day no probs - drives well and just an easy car to own. Good luck with it!

:lol::wink:

The Bora is very similar to my Passat, apart from the extra gear and being a bit quicker, Out of all the cars I've ever had the Passats been the best hence why I've gone back to VW again.

I nearly bought a Leon before i bought the Passat in fact, I think it was the high road tax that put me off in the end as i really like the drive of it.

these six speed jobbies do make for orsums motorway cruising.

i like them.

don't like to pull in 3rd at low revs though, keep stalling our galaxy when trying to get around roundabouts etc without resorting to 2nd...

I found today that it doesn't like to reverse in 6th niether  The 6th gear is where reverse was in my Passat.

Looks nice. Don't go crazy in second gear when doing quick starts - synchro is a weak point. Certainly was on the 210bhp chipped Golf I once drove! (That was ludicrously quick!)

Yup you got it. What a great name for a garage I thought!

Is your's the 'red i' model?

My Pisshat is a 110bhp model I think and I'm considering an upgraded chip thing to give it some more welly.

Compared to a 'red i' it's a slug of a thing, though having just managed 600 miles on one tank of fuel (mixed driving) I'm quite impressed. I *think* it equates to about 40+mpg and I could probably squeeze a bit more out of it.

I've never driven a 110 bhp model so I can only comment on my 115bhp one but mine had plenty of go in it, I never once thought about chipping it, and I had a Mondeo ST24 before that so was used to a pokey car, though the 50mpg was also nice.

Friday 13thisms made me laugh today....

Took a group of fresh meat into the company today. It's my job to give them a load of safety talks and take them on a tour of the place.

First up.... "If anyone's got a mobile phone on them, please put it on silent for the duration of..... [ring ring ring ring ring].... bollocks. that's mine".

Next up I have to tell them that if they have an accident during the induction they need to tell me. At which point we have a joke about how safe they are in an office block. Ten minutes later I take a group down to security, and one lass falls down stairs. Doh!

Roll on Saturday 14th :)
