What makes you grin? Antidote to grumpy thread

Well what a nice day it turned out, the n.o.s genuine door seal for the saph turned up yesterday, so today I went about fitting it, when I went outside it was dull grey skies, by the time I was finished that lovely vibrant bright yellow ball in the sky had battled with the clouds and blue sky's were showing, i ended up washing, polishing and hoovering the saph because it would have been rude not to

Blue skies, dear god. It's snowing here but at least the freezing rain has stopped. I was tempted to take a picture of the Toyota earlier but who wants to see a sugar-glazed modern?

Was given a massive bag of 'retro' sweets yesterday. Now sat here eating myself into sugary death. Happy days.

I'm in Japan. All the taxis look like they were built by Bristol, and my hotel has a heated toilet seat. Disappointingly light on chod though, apart from the Autobianchi A112 that drove past me when I was waiting for the bus this morning the oldest thing I've seen so far is a mid-90s Corolla.

Just had a minor ftp in the 'adjustments' department... seat no function, seat heater, no function, mirrors no function.... passengers seat fine. Pressed all the buttons  a few hundred times, prodding viciously at things and getting more and more 'pressing' in my, errr.... pressing! No joy. Was just about to investigate the fuse box when the heavens opened yet again and, as we were sat in Daddyhole carpark, made a bid for home...

Via the Co-op.

Came out, got back in the car and pressed the mirror button (Just in case a miracle had occurred while shopping, as you do!) and.... it worked, so did the seat and the heaters!

Is this car, part French?

Last night I got to drive the Protohno around the yard and quite liked it.  The forward-backward seat adjustment is PERFECT!  Why don't all cars have this?  I am still amazed by that one feature and annoyed that my other cars are not fitted with it.  A light and easy to use little lever to the right of the seat base makes so much more sense than groping around under the front of the seat to then try and hoik yourself forwards or backwards to where you want to be.  Given how light and easy all the controls are in the car it was surprising that there wasn't power steering but it's such a light car it doesn't really need it.

It is everything and more that I expected it to be.   A firm favourite on the Want List now and I will likely have a fling with one in the future.

This turned up in the post today which made me happy, but the little Volvo quote made me chuckle.

Those Toyota Crown taxis are ace. I've used them a lot in Hong Kong. Over there some have a front bench seat and column change so they seat 6. There's an extra lever on the dash that the driver can use to open the n/s rear door through some clever mechanical linkage.

Because I expect to find the forwards-backwards adjustment under the front of the seats, anything on the side I expect to find is for up and down.

Anyway, here's the GD Honda Jazz's trick:

Magic_Seat.jpg

Not only does it have the "inconvenient" handle under the front of the seats, it has a second lever at the top outer side of the backrest

a) so you don't have the hassle of trying to get in when the seat is rammed up against the steering wheel by a short-arsed driver.

b ) so you don't have to bend down trying to achieve the same when you have a low side lever.

c) so you can easily move it forward whilst standing with the rear side door open so the rear seat can be folded forwards such that the rear headrest remains attached and sits under the front seat and slide it back again over the top of said headrest.

That's amazing!  I am a little bit in love with the designer of those seats.

Me too. Have taken an extra week off work as I've got a tonne of Annual Leave to use. Got away from a toxic atmosphere there for a bit as the completely out of her depth technician I work with was given a job out of nothing (helps when you sleep with the new team leader I guess...).

Meanwhile, I've got into a new relationship with a girl who seems to utterly adore me already despite the fact that I love 'shite, rugby and ale. I'll try and get her into spotting stuff while things are going well :-P. Only downside is that we can't see each other as much as we'd like, she works as a duty carer in a private school, but it does mean that we do get to keep our hobbies up.

Looking back this time last year I was in a shit place, the black dog had been resident for quite a while, my previous relationship was in it's final throes too (the relationship, rather than the end of it was a large reason for it). Did a bit of CBT (though no pills, but lots of good friends who knew what I was going through and supported), and it took a while to get back to my "normal" self, but it feels good to be back.

I know there's a few of us on here who to a lesser or greater degree go through the same. Just a little thing to say things DO get better!

Might not let her drive my car though, she's already clouted her wing mirror, and a trim panel on her bumper in the short amount of time that I've been with her!

Missus Moog is still ill after holiday. Dr think it might be parasites.

Why the grin? Well she didn't like me pointing out that they are like pets you keep inside and don't need to walk :

Although no doubt I will find out I have them as well!

A mate of mine used to regularly tow a 3 bike trailer with his kitten . He also towed a big old rover ( Siegfried Farnon spec but with a Perkins diesel in ) about 20 miles across cornwall 😮

Is just picture it having something with some weight on the back making it wheelie all the way up the road

Look at just about any braking system for any late 80s to late 90s car and you'll likely find three variations for each model

If you're very lucky, and own a Citroen, parts of all the variations may be on the same car.

On a happier now, my non-working dashboard light came on* yesterday! Not having to have a gloomy speedo/take the dash apart makes me happy.

*I took the sensible, and unexplainable, step at the next set of traffic lights of thumping the top of the dash, making the light go off again

Eastenders, just now. Martin Fowler has Maestro van.

That's a grin for my wife too, as she enjoyed very much me telling her what it was, then telling her that it's SORN'd and the MOT runs out tomorrow, after checking online.

Did a bit of CBT

I'm not sure how cock and ball torture would be a cure for depression, but to each their own I suppose...

I've got a tow rope out before and towed a Carlton estate with a Reliant Kitten about 5 or 6 miles. Clutch sort of survived.

As it happens, my Rialto has a towbar on it too.

Just watched bits of the Wigan/Gillingham match. There was a player called Max Power.

I am still laughing at that.
