Yesterday, our shower packed up. That's ok - it is probably over 30 years old. I opened it up for a look inside and three dead mice fell out... It was knackered though.

So, we built our own using mainly scrap old stuff we had lying around. We did need to buy a tap and one elbow connector. Scored a multimeter for £7.49 at Screwfix at the same time. Nice.

Our luxurious new shower.

One tap controlling input from the hot tap. Our hideously complicated, non-normal heating system send hot water at mains pressure through the huge tank that stores our warms. A thermostatic control ensures that what comes out of the taps isn't scalding. I look forward to testing it soon (far too late at night for someone this hirsute to shower). Perhaps after a day being an extra in Hinterland.

Looks like something out of a cheap hostel in Asia.

What did you use for the thermostatic control.

I'm not very confident at car mechanicals but yesterday I removed the alternator without damage or injury and now I feel like king of spanners.

T'wife's just informed me she's going to Zagreb Friday evening (urgh) to see opera (oh dear me no) with the school (bleurgh!) including kids (argh!)

The good news is she didn't get me a ticket - yee-ha!!

They're going to see Sevillski Brjiać, which translates as The Shaver From Seville.

Well done ! You're now only a couple of Haynes spanners away from a full automatic gearbox rebuild !

Hey, why aren't Haynes spanners an icon on here?

You mean Rossini's Barber of Seville, I'm thinking.

The hot water supply from our thermal store is already thermostatically controlled, as the tank temperature can be as high as 80 degrees. We've turned it down a bit, so what we're getting is around 39/40 degrees (it was 45-50 degrees). I've just used it for the first time. It's incredible! The pressure is just ludicrous, so after a bit of fettling, I barely had the tap open for fear it might start removing skin as well as dirt.

Your hot water is stored at 80 degrees or so as that's out of the danger zone for bacterial growth.

By turning it down your encouraging the growth of god knows all what.

Legionnaires disease is the one they get excited about at work, or they did when it was found in water tank at the building Special Branch rent from us....

Being as he's already managed to grow three mice from it, I suspect there's a healthy degree of immunity in the household.

205 = MOT WIN!

As it's still covered in Wales from the 2CVGB Lake Vnvywnvyrnwy run back in November, tomorrow I shall treat it to a serious sponging from those nice Lithuanian gentlemen off the bypass.

You misunderstand. The tank ranges in temperature depending on how hot we make the fire. The hot water passes through a coil in this tank and as it exits, is mixed with cold to get a safe tap temperature. Out heating system could be Citroen badged. During the Maserati years. It's pretty complex, and mostly designed by Mrs DW.

Correct wheel trims for Nugget arrived courtesy of fellow shiter and Corsa botherer IainL.  I'm working from home today so they won't get fitted until I'm at the unit tomorrow.

Oh, so it's like a solar heating system but with a wood burner instead of solar heat exchangers?

It is a solar heating system, it's just using trees as an on-demand solar energy source.

Insurance last year £536.00 (more or less as that's this year's quote) This year through the Meercat is £206.00

I was on the phone to the company last year when my old Astra went tits up and I needed to insure the replacement there and then to go to work but the internet was acting up so I had no other prices so took it knowing I was getting molested.  Throw in the £20 or so from selling the Oleg Safari as house insurance is due next week and I've added the AA cover and protected no claims for a few quid extra.  :-D

Oh and I've just got an email from Monarch confirming a booking in October to Faro in Portugal for what looks like a Golfing weekend - I don't play golf and haven't booked any flights, I wonder if they take your passport number when booking...

Golfing weekend or scam, try clicking on a link and see if your bank empties overnight. It worked for me once....

I've emailed them direct from their website about it already.

I still have Amazon and I Tunes accounts that are not mine but neither replied when I told them I had access, data protection my arse.  :-P

Bought some washer jets for the meriva as the old ones were dead from ebay, and they arrived, genuine Vauxhall and they didn't try to sell me anything else or push for finance...
