Working on site for the Melbourne Cup..which makes Royal Ascot look like a donkey ride..and getting to drive this around..admittedly languidly delivering tables n chairs..whilst my supervisors hammer it...

There's a half page advert in my local rag to inform people that if they have been shitting blood for three weeks that they should see a doctor

On a country walk we passed a house up a track where this was outside the garage:

Pistonheads style logo so the cars probably being ruined to use as a "track slag" or some "Ring" car, surprised there's no Ring logo sticker.

I'd imagine track or drift use, given the towing hook is also painted red to stick out.

There were some E36s drifting at Santa Pod last weekend, most of them sounded very poorly and looked to have been pulled out the scrappy (or headed there soon after the event). Mush amusement was had when someone in a Suzuki Cappuchino did way better than any of them, skill over power and slack-jawedness.

Was an excellent day of shite. Dad took the lead in his Bradford Taxi. We helped a chap with a new-ish Landrover that decided to eat a belt with its fan as it came into the service station by providing a torch, because we didn't have anything else of use to get him on his way. It was hilarious for some reason... I don't have a picture of that, so here's a picture of the mini shitefest at a service station somewhere.

Is that a scrapyard special wing mirror? Is there any way to remove that yellow paint/tippex without destroying what's beneath?

Just after I passed my test in 2003 I spent like 3 weeks wages on a massive big amp for by mk2 fiesta. It packed up after not very long so I sent it back, they fixed it and it lasted about 2 weeks before packing up again. being about halfway into A level electronics I decided I'd try and fix it myself but obviously I didn't really know what I was doing and gave up on it soon after taking it apart. I assumed I'd thrown it out but I found it in the bottom of a box of stuff today and decided to have a go at it. It's absolutely flipping huge - about 70cm wide. Strangely for a 17 year old, I'd even put all the screws in a little bag and taped it to the PCB so all the parts are still there and everything.

Reflowed a few dry solder joints and it seems like it's fixed - I might change a couple of the MOSFETS on channels 5 and 6 because they look like they've been already changed once and not in matching pairs but I'm over the moon

I know most of you lot on here aren't into car audio, and I've not got a lot of use for it - I've got 4 or 5 better amps stacked in the garage that I'm not using and aren't worth selling, but it brings back happy memories of driving my 1.4S all over the place most nights for no reason other than I was 17 and things were a lot better back then in general.

White spirits, apparently. Steve marks a lot of his stuff like that so he knows what it's for. I kinda like it, I'm tempted to leave it there.

R490RVJ seems rather familiar. Great pics by the way.

Similar reg to one that appeared on the tellybox.

I'm back! :) At least I think I am, but see my next posting in the Grumpy thread (nothing changes eh?). We are in Barrow, in our house, container has arrived with my two cars in and I'm using them, and I've even got a job! Nice to be able to come in with something positive after all this time.

Top news, Eddy. Good to have you back.

Nice one Eddy.

Welcome back to Blighty. You could have brought some warmth with you! Look forward to pics of the imported fleet once your internet sorts itself out...

Range rover is working again. Didn't know whether to stick this in the grump thread or not but it is running :D

Last weekend I decided to strip the top end to fix a suspected air leak around the inlet/plenum. Took me 3h of fun to strip it, clean it and get it all back together with lots of blue hylomar. And it started, and ran without all the lumpiness.

Then I tried to remove the ecu temp sender which being lucarse and on a 1990's land rover car renders them hugely unreliable. Only dpo dipshit had glued the bastard in because the thread was fucked. So when I tried to remove it the top end just span with no removing going on. So the whole fugging thing came apart again, but this time with the inlet manifold also. I managed to get the offending sender out but with buggered thread and daily driver off the road I opted for a 2nd hand inlet from the bay.

Ordered new gaskets, injector seals etc etc and got everything together for a fix it morning yesterday. Inlet manifold went in fine, new injector seals seemed to be made of butter, and for some reason I didn't bother to check for fuel leaks at the injector rail until the whole thing was back together. Started fine but with a fuel leak of BP proportions. SHIIIIIIIIT!

So it all came apart again, found one seal had the tinseyest nick taken out of it! Making me very nervous i stripped them all apart again, triple checked them and reseated, no leaks yay. Got it back together for the 3rd time in a week and it purrrrrrrrrrrs

So a week of no daily driver and a shit load of work and all because of a previous owner bodge, you gotta love em haven't you!

Just got power back after 6 days, dear god you realize how cold it is with no heating.

My debit card is worn out, and starting to go dodgy in the card reader thingies so this afternoon I went onto online banking to order a new one. While there I noticed that I can "personalize" my card with a photo so I sent them this one.

Forget the bank card. The story of that car and its creation is still one of the biggest grins on the internet. Especially the devilish underside shot. Must be some years ago now?

Posted

Still one of my favourite cars for being what a hot rod should be.

4 years ago now! I almost used the devilish underside pic for the card, but the aspect ratio was all wrong.

Very long day of 'car stuff' today with some Very Nice People off the internet, taking in two 'events' and getting various bits of car delivered to replace the worse bits of mine. Some uplifting chatting have left me feeling very positive about the stupid plastic thing on my drive and I'm now looking forward to cracking on a bit even more than before. So all the good bits of the online old car scene and none of the nonsense. Lovely stuff!

Also, I imagine this must be the only time in history that this exact combination of rubbish cars have shared a car park It's hard to see from this angle but there is a 190-something Olds Curved dash behind the Merc)
