Half an hour and many euros at the jetwash and years of crud and green slime has been removed from the Buick. It looks to be in better Nick than I thought.

I had 7 pints last night. Woke up with a totally unjustified level of hangover considering that level of drinking, especially with a meal. I suspect that I shouldn't have had draught cobra at the curry house. Don't think their pipes were quite up to standard.

Anyhow the grin is that there are full episodes of Brainiac Science Abuse on YouTube to nurse me through the pain.

Finally got time this morning to do the pads on Imp’s Jag, the wife has been giving me grief about it not moving very much as I haven’t wanted to put any major miles on it as such before swapping them over.

Refreshingly easy.

Wheel nuts a screwdriver, 7mm bolt and not much else. Oh, and a burn barrel because I was cold :)

Jags tend to be easy to work on as the parts are 'adult sized'.

Pausing for photos today at Swansea Airport, I parked up next to this Aero Delfin - the Skoda Rapid 130 of military aircraft.

I knew it was a cold war era Czech jet trainer, popular these days for aerobatics. I didn’t know (but Wikipedia has just told me) they were used by the Egyptians in combat in the Yom Kippur War.

I especially didn’t know, but am delighted to learn, that they can run on 100% veg.

Nail on the head apart from the heated seated, with a knackered back they're a real bonus to me.

This.  Especially with leather.  Getting into an unheated leather seat first thing in the morning when it's been -8 all night is not pleasant.

You used to be able to pick up those L29s for about £30K in working order - don't know if that's still the case now...

Got a trip planned this year for our 20th wedding anniversary, we will be going through 9 countries and ending up in Russia over 15 days. With my medical issues I always make sure we are insured and expected to get pounded based on the number of countries and the B word meaning EHIC could be a non starter, but no, only £80 with my ailments declared. That’s seems a bargain to me.

Luckily the people getting rid were very friendly so myself and the fella dismantled it and in it went! That's my afternoon sorted! Will fix the crack another day, few rivets and some stout plastic/scrap metal offcut will sort that

I read that as yourself and your fella.

Arrghhh!! my eyes.......

My wife did that as well, paid a fortune for 2 chandelier lights for the living room, only they're that bright we had to buy lamps to match as you need to wear a baseball cap to sit in there when they're on

that needs sent to Big Clive for autopsy!

I've not plugged it in , the shielded earth pin was an indicator it might not go well, it came with a battery charger claiming to be genuine canon , I asked to return it and they just refunded straight away.

Can you fit a dimmer switch to them?

I will check when I get home but think it was travelsure or staysure

Had an offer on our house yesterday for the full asking price.  Buyers have no chain and are an attorney and doctor so sale should go through no issues.

This is making me grin as it's one step closer to moving back to the UK and joining the SVM.

It was Staysure. I have used them before and the cover is good. I could have a ‘basic’ one for £44 but the £80 includes £1million for repatriation and £10 million medical cover plus lots of other bits and pieces so worth the extra. I don’t fancy being stuck in Russia for months because I can’t afford repatriation. Doing the holiday on the cheap generally (budget is hilariously small) but would never skimp on something like healthinsurance.

Way back in 1992 my dad got a new work truck to replace his MK2 Transit, it was a P100 1.8TD, J406 AOO, his work in their wisdom thought it would be better than a Transit as it was cheaper but realistically it wasn't at all, I even remember going with him to collect it from Candor Ford in Colchester.

It lasted 4 years of heavy use carrying over 1/2 ton of tools and regularly towing a heavy Land Rover trailer with a ton of sand in the back before the engine shat itself at 36000 miles and his work agree to trade it in for another Transit.

Here it is in 1994/5 with the homemade roof rack.

I often travelled about in the back of it with no escape (I was only 12-16) you wouldn't get away with that now! Anyway the reason for this post is much to my shock I've found photos of it on Flickr! It's still alive! Apparently it's done 160000 miles now but other than the roof rack it looks no different, amazing!

Where is the collection thread?

Ha! As much as I'd like to see it again I'm not sure I'm going to get all 'Bornite' over it! I do wonder if the piece of paper with my name and date on it that I put behind the plastic electric window switch cover in the centre console back in 1995 is still there?

Two new springs and top mounts fitted to the picasso. 175k on clock and doing a sterling job of being a general vehicle. Random message from a friend yesterday too. Would I be interested in a 2005 Citroen picasso 2.0 hdi. Been sat for a year due to timing belt slipping. Went to have a look and all the interior is spotless ( mine is very worn with a knackered drivers seat). Had new clutch less than 200 mile ago,now Pas pump and exhaust at same time just before timing slipped. Said I can have it for a ton. Should be able to put interior in mine, spare headlights, tail lights etc and turbo plus other engine ancillaries and sell off the doors etc to make money back.

I’d be seriously considering swapping the head from yours onto the new one and using that?

Posted

That's an idea but mine has long MOT,that has none. Also insurance, putting tax to disabled and the fact that the engine is an unknown where as mine is a strong engine considering it's on 180k. Also my bodywork is a lot less crumbly. Previous owner made sure it wanted for nothing, owned it for 8 years. Shame he didn't look after the interior!

Down to two cars for the first time in ages. Feels good. Decided it's not worth selling the 19, I'll just insure it somehow.

Also I forgot how good a decent manual gearbox is. Months of automatics sure made me lazy.
