You may possibly have read elsewhere that I'm having a major clearout of my house at the moment.  It's a less than edifying task, although it does have its moments when I discover something I thought I'd lost years ago.

Today though I had some help, in the form of three (female) colleagues from work, who pitched up at my house at 8.30 this morning (they'd wanted to turn up at 8, but I dissuaded them by saying that I might not be dressed yet) to help out.  Two of them got on with sorting the kitchen (which is now the cleanest it's been in years), while the other gave me a hand turning out the cupboard under the stairs, which is quite large and was pretty much chockablock with stuff.  Got rid of a shedload more crap (I'm going to have to do another dump run next weekend) and found some stuff I'd been looking for (like my old SLR camera) and some stuff I'd forgotten I had, including photos of my HB Viva and Humber Sceptre.  Only annoying thing was that I chucked away an old model car tyre early on in proceedings, then later found the car it belonged to (a 1:18 scale Bburago Bugatti), by which time I'd forgotten which rubbish bag I'd put the tyre in.

The money may be shite where I work but I do work with some GR9 people.  (They all offered to come and help, I didn't ask them.)  Although quite what the neighbours must have thought seeing three females under the age of 35 turn up at my house I have no idea...

They probably thought the French Maid's outfits were a bit underdressed that that time of a morning.

I was rummaging through some old memory cards earlier and found this, which to me represents pretty much complete contentment in one photo:

I remember that. Was it you overtaken by a complete numpty in a blue reliant Robin on that straight Road up by Carsington?!

That bike was overtaken by most of the western world as I recall :D

That reliant overtook a few cubs, couldn't catch swampy as much as I tried though!

Well no, but his bike had a bit more up its sleeve than my scabby oil-cooled 110. IIRC he was running a modified YX140.

He was a properly nice chap, most of the modded stuff on his bike he made himself in his shed/machine shop. I've still got a couple of his special carbs in the garage, but he moved house & I lost touch with him, sadly.

That reliant of mine was daft quick with some tuning mods fitted, give me a long enough Road and I'll catch him, just not in the bends and takeoff. He really was a engineering wizard. And I miss my old reliant!

Been some serious bloody showers today, but sunshine too.

Has that Sierra got Rover P6 wheel trims fitted?

^^^ does the caravan have a thread on here??

There is a thread of when it went to Portugal last year. I like it because it might be one of the last caravans to be factory fitted with a gas light.

It has a flint ignition system (seized up), and I'm not attempting to fix it as it will destroy the mantle- when that breaks it will be restored to full health. The fabric shade must be non-inflammable or just magic. Let's light it up-

Hardly enough signal here to send photos, but will do when I can demonstrate a full spark up! Does your fine caravan have a gas powered source of incandescence Mr Rocker?

At a resort in menorca. Was last here 10 years ago. They still have the very same battered smiley transit on the fleet, 10 years back I thought its days were numbered, and had automatically assumed it would be long gone. Made me smiley too that they'd kept it!

Managed to pap it....

I used to love those gas lights - when I were just a young student, there was a pub in Beverley East Yorks that still had gaslights.

My "grin" is the best birthday pressie for ages off my sister - half an hour in a 737 simulator.  I am going to see if I can buy another half hour and then "fly" my regular route from EMA to DUB - as it's a 737-800 sim I can get an idea of what the folk upfront are seeing.

Ace, I will try and find it. Caravans with gas lighting, and a black'n'white portable telly with crocodile clips to the car battery; that's the story of my childhood holidays in North Wales*. Happy days.

*and rain, obviously. Lots of rain.

I was making a delivery to Nantwich and someone is living the fucking dream, a canal boat with a motorbike strapped to the back of it.

If my bike wasn't way too heavy I'd be tempted by such things, plus where to put & rebuild t'other bike...
