Despite looking like its been in the sea since the last time it was started around 2002 the engine was persuaded to run yesterday and seems OK. I bought the car for this componant which is the humble 2.25 4 cylinder one. It's to replace the 6 cylinder in my 75 which has 'features' that make it unhappy in the modern world. The landrover unit makes approximately the same power but has potential for improvment- compression can be raised from a dismal 7:1 to a more LPG friendly 9:1. None of my planned mods are exactly cutting edge but I'm looking forward to overtaking cyclists in the near future.

I know what you actually mean, but I have a mental image of you taking a KV6 out of a Rover 75 and putting a 2.25 LR engine in it...

Got my insurance renewal today. Three cars. Modern Mazda 5 , newish Kia sportage (daughters) and the pride of the fleet Rover75. Total price from admiral multi thingy £2596.00. Rang loads more people for qoutes . All were dearer cos i live in L36 Merseyside. Must ne twinned with the Gaza strip. Anyway rang them up and offered to renew if we could shave a bit off the price. Really helpfull fella ,Irish and in a good mood for paddy's day. Total saving across all three £568.00. So good deal considering. Bit miffed because I pay more for my Mazda 5 at 52 yrs of age with 16 yrs no claims than my 27 yr old son with 5 yrs no claims and a 2.0 s60 volvo. But he lives in L35 which isn't the Gaza strip apparently .

I wasn't particularly impressed at the time but it happened at walking pace going over a speed bump. I like to think that the poor old car held on as long as it could so it didn't kill me on the motorway. Gotta stay positive!

The car is 15.5 years old, it's done 189k and although it gets properly serviced it gets treated like a newer car rather than molycuddled like a lot of old ones. It's used like it was meant to be used.

Thing is, it's 1.8 ton or thereabouts,it's done plenty of miles and things do break. This just happens to be a big bit that's broken, but it's not the end of the world.

It'll take a couple of hours swearing to change the arm, the arm itself was £100 (OE new arm) and it'll more likely than not need the alignment doing, but it'll live to fight another day. I'll check all the other suspension arms tomorrow and make sure they're all OK. If they need doing then I'll do them.

For now, here's a STANCE Y0 pic.

Obligatory petrol station on the way home from collecting it shot:

Nice, is it the wife's?

Those 500s have been going forever by new car standards.

And a few more years left in it too judging by this year's facelift.

Aye, it's taken them up to now to get EU friendly driver-blinding LEDs.

Fed up with constantly mislaying tools I've got one of those wall mounted tool boards and made a start in adding order to the chaos in my garage....

Only works if you put them back after using them though.

Been there, done that, can't find the t shirt. Or anything else for that matter.

My god, the thought of that makes me realise how for things have come. The 2.25 engine weighs, I think, 450 pounds, and the straight 6 a hefty 600lbs. I'd guess the KV6 is half that and makes twice the power. Too much monkey business for me though.

The Burd's Cousin has had a similar failure today on her £350 e280

MOT is due in April so its bye bye times:(

Back when I was dailying the Triumphs people at work would always ask me "what's wrong with the car today?" for obvious reasons. Then I got the Honda and was congratulated on finally getting a decent car, now I am back to being asked what's wrong with my car.

Even my manager turned to me today and said "you don't have any luck with cars, do you?". No, I fucking well don't. Also my month old £350 exhaust is blowing at the back end somewhere.

Hate cars.

Ah. That tends to be the way. Mine cost a bit more but it's a diesel estate so it's worth keeping alive for another year or two.

My sisters x5 passed it mot but advisorys on front brake pads bmw quoted £460 to supply and fit.. so i rang local factors and quoted £130 plus vat and tyreweb will fit for £35..

Nippa is about to go in for MOT. Second one in our ownership. Gosh. What's happened to me? I've now owned three cars long enough for subsequent MOTs!

Spoke too soon. Garage having one of 'those' days. Nippa will get another chance on Monday.

Got the Dyane apart for some cylinder head retorqueing. Also got an exhaust leak to stop leaking. Rediscovered my 'entire front end removal' trick too.

Insurance companies, what a shower of bastards.

I insured the Omega with Admiral when I first bought it, seeing that they quoted me a very cheap price with 6 years' NCD. However, I couldn't use that NCD immediately, so I took the hit, in the hope that once I transferred it across I'd get a nice discount.

Nope. I got a discount of £15 today. For the entire year. The original quote from 2 weeks ago was more like £200+ less.

I phoned them to ask what changed in two weeks and got a spiel about how the insurance factors are recalculated every 2 weeks yadda yadda yadda. Cool, so a 15 year old mid-range Omega has suddenly become a high-risk car in the last fortnight? Good to know.

Wait, no, the other thing. FUCK OFF. Cancelled on the spot and took the hit of their extortionate cancellation fees, then went with esure. I've still saved £150 by going with esure with £100k of legal coverage and even a small amount of business use (sometimes need to do evening work at one of the campuses and I'm lazy and use the car with tools and kit in the back).

In summary: Admiral - never again.

They actually used to be really good. I had my first 306 and the MX-5 insured with them on a multicar policy for £750, for a 24yr old with 2 years' NCD that's not bad. Now, at the ripe old age of 28 with 6 years' NCD they had a proper BELM at the Omega.

Oh yes. Today the university I work at also awarded an honorary degree to the president of Ghana for throwing his blood money at the city, and two students died overnight in the halls of residence (one was a suicide), so I'm rather unhappy about both of those things. Worse, was the fact I only heard about the students on YikYak rather than through anybody at work...

I personally know somebody who attempted suicide, and have had thoughts about it myself in the past. Nobody needs to go through that. Get help.

Rant over. It's the weekend.

I always found Admiral one of the less bastardite insurers, until this year I insured with Elephant (Admiral in everything but name). Not only did they charge me an extra £400 for moving to what they admitted was a lower risk postcode, then £250 for changing to what they admitted was a lower risk car, when I tried to add the BX for the last month of my policy they refused and tried to make me buy a year's multi car policy. £2900 for the BX and £1800 for the Daihatsu, including the month left on the latter car which would be transferred to the new policy.

Needless to say the words 'jog' and 'on' were used.
