Been to Halfords, spent money and saw a cracking pug 306 with a couple of lads. Lowered loads at the back and what I thought were polished alloy wheels - turned out they had been powder-coated for £35 each. Bloody good job as well.

Bought a load of interior cleaning wipes, injector cleaner, snake oil for the ... er, oil and an electric tyre inflater. Oh and a gallon of Mobil one, which is what I went for in the first place and forgot so had to go back!

I had been worried about oil usage as I park on a slope. On the level, spot on it transpires!

I had one of my car meets today at a Diner near Colchester, considering the shite weather we still managed to get 22 cars down to Essex from Suffolk in a convey as well as a good 10 cars which were there when we arrived.

I stupidly only took a few photos though.

I also went to see a friend afterwards to discuss Ital Vans I saw this very tatty 218 TD round his friends, it's done 115000 miles and the old boy who owns it was moaning about a small scuff on a door which I had to laugh about.

It's spectacularly shite, It's his wife's local runabout though, so it should do the job nicely.

The blue one behind it is actually their neighbour's!

However, you know I mentioned that I'd fitted a new front left CV joint yesterday? Just as I was leaving my mate's house... it decided it didn't like being attached to the driveshaft. I reckon I didn't fit it quite properly, but either way, it made a horrible greasy mess and caused the car to lose all drive.

I ended up abandoning it at my mate's house and getting a lift home from him. Not in the Alto though, he also has a 60 reg Fiesta diesel he uses to get to work.

I reckon I'll be phoning the RAC next Saturday to get it recovered to the parents' farm so I can tear it apart again. Lucky I only have to walk a mile to work every day!

It didn't even pop off outside my mate's house, but about a mile from his house, luckily a local teuchter (or redneck or bumpkin or whatever) was trundling past in a Daihatsu 4x4 and he had a proper towing bar in the back. Sorted. Got it back to my mate's house so it was no longer on a grass verge next to an A-road and left it. I can reach in behind the wheel and move the driveshaft in and out of the CV joint... something's definitely come adrift. :(

Trip to TESCO Stranraer on the cards tomorrow......

Any 'points of Interest', for $hiters, in that area?

Suggestions* I might test the vans 'bouyancy', off the ferry ramp, will be regarded as 'just joshinn!'

how ironic a newer reg'd car than the one that replaced it!

Like an adulterous husband who buys his wife flowers to assuage his guilt, after I'd installed the shiny new Victor FE in the shed I took the cuckolded XJ-S for a run.

Shamefully, this is its first outing since I got it home, apart from a bit of driving round the farm. I haven't completely ignored it, though: I've replaced the boiled brake fluid, put in a new headlining and thought about fitting a new fuel gauge sender.

It runs very well, actually. There's a bit of a blow from the exhaust, which might be fixed by replacing a broken hanger, and it stalls at idle when you first start it, which probably means a cold start injector (easy DIY job I think). After about 20 seconds it's fine though. Feels smooooooth - sort the exhaust and it'll sound good too.

You seem to like pale blue cars

Funny thing is, I don't - it's right up there with black and non-metallic orangey red among colours that don't really do it for me. But interesting model + right example + good price + available when I have funds > right colour.

They'd all be pale gold, Rover nightfire red or a nice sage or forest green, in an ideal world.

been to mini fair today.

jumped into rover early this morning - bulb failure cos the o/s headlamp bulb has blown.

find halfrauds and spunk out nearly £20 on a new bulb(cos i don't want to/cba to change it myself) and now the sidelamp is not working. to change that its a headlamp out and bumper off and all the car in bits type job to sort, so bugger it, i'll live without that working for now.

then get caught in traffic, and then the brakes start grumbling and groaning. i think one of the backs may be dragging a little too. so that is something else what will need fixing, but since i don't fancy running to nottingham on suspect brakes i'm going to have to use the better half's little gay jeep for work next week..... shit.

so what did i buy then , well this

yes all the way to a large mini show i bought some bits of train set.....

and there were some lovely cars there, including 33EJB, an Wood and Pickett Riley Elf, and an austrailian Morris Mini Clubman complete with aussie spec door handles, A/C and front 1/4 lights in the doors. i hate to think what some of those cars were worth. 33EJB is guess priceless.

Completed job #1 for the weekend, Octavia has a new thermostat and coolant temp sensor, gets up to temp properly and sits there. Flush too and some fresh OAT coolant in.

Job #2 incomplete. Went to start the Scirocco and have a tinker. Freshly charged battery and she's turning over nicely but not firing. Check the fuel filter... Where's all the bloody fuel gone?

Bollocks.

Didn't manage to get anything done on the CX this weekend - didn't get time yesterday and the weather was shit today.

Got a few bits done yesterday - the LDV now has a working handbrake, soaking the pivot mechanism in diesel for a week and then sticking it in the workbench and twatting the arm back and forth with a lump hammer seems to have done the trick.  So that's a good thing,

I also repaired / replaced a few more knackered-looking pipes under the bonnet of the Golf, and it's now idling noticeably better.  It still isn't perfect, but I took it for a quick blat last night and got it up to temperature and it didn't stall once, which is an improvement.  So that can now go up for sale.

I thought I'd fire up the Rover of Doom and give it a quick run round the block as it's been stood for ages now.  I'd nicked its battery to go on the CX when I pinched the CX battery for the LDV.  No problem, I thought, I'll stick the original LDV battery on there - the Rover has a smaller engine than the van so the marginal battery might be OK.  Checked the battery with the multimeter this morning and it was showing 12.07v - a little on the low side, so I thought I'd bung it on charge for a few hours.  Came back to it this afternoon, disconnected the charger, and it's now putting out 10.55v.  Arse.  It's obviously shat a cell whilst being charged.  So that's another battery for the scrapheap (shame scrap batteries aren't worth anything any more), and another expense I'm going to have to swallow before the Rover can go back on the road.

Yesterday involved an invasion, with ChaseRacer, Dugong and FPB7 all showing up like Ronin-era gangsters in a 605 V6. Sadly it was dark, so I didn't get to have a proper look at the infamous Peugeot, but beverages were consumed, shite was talked, and Autoshite was viewed. Of course out of all the cars here, the now slightly mouldy Twingo got all the love.

They escaped in the 605 pursued by a gold CX, so again I suspect Ronin-style (but not actual Ronin) escapades.

Today I fixed the SLK brakes and did my tax return. A thrilling day.

Need more AS invasions, ideally timed to coincide with "ordering takeout" from the decent Indian or Cantonese places locally. Or invading the White Lion for insanely overpriced but apparently decent food.

As Andy said, I'm sure it can be arranged, I could possibly even bring a Sera (which might be for sale in a bit)

GGNGG. Don't tell me that. I reckon the Beetle, once fully fettled, would be very easy to move on. And there's not much of a Sera to vinyl wrap yellow...

I'd have had the 406 V6 coupe, the 'grale and the Twingo, in that order.

Had to visit three different scrappers today to get a seat for my mk6 Fiesta.

At the first two they had a few 5 door ones but the drivers seat was missing in them all. I really only need the frame but gave one last place a try. They did have a 3 door but the seat is I a bit of a state with the catch to make it tip ripped out, bought it anyway for a tenner as anything is better than nothing.

Forgot to take a pic but did get a nice bonus

I've lost my shite mojo I think and not sure what I want to do with cars. So I've been and bought a modern.

This does leave me with a dilemma about what to do with my other cars, do I keep, do I sell etc.

Happy with the modern though, I've wanted one for a while ... Pickup tomorrow! Its quite a nippy thing, low mileage, ace condition.

I'm now in my 40s and cars do get me down sometimes that's when I purge a couple but I then just go and buy more,

I wish sometimes I just could be happy with a couple but I've come to the conclusion that never gonna happen.

I also have a pair of moderns and there's nowt wrong with that.

"A modern". 07-plate.

Thats 9 years old. NINE.

Whats worse is that I bought a brand new Focus in 2007.

When did the future become so old?!

Yeah 9 years old so firmly in the 'getting old' category.

I've never had a proper hot hatch, so I might be silly and remap this 62k genuine car and do some silly things with it. Maybe. It certainly shuffles along well enough as standard!

I've looked at 4 today and ended up going back to the first one I looked at and haggling a bit. I got this for £250 more than one with 82k and rust (yes!) in about 5 different areas starting to come through.

Newer Fords aren't immune it seems - my Sierra was cleaner!

This ones been a well looked after car it seems though.

Not had reason to use the Sterling for the past day or so, so I went up today to top up the fluids and warm it up. Sterling started and ran Ok, but suddenly after a few minutes it started running rough and then cut out, it started up straight away and ran Ok again.

Supposed to be heading to Redditch on Weds for an appointment but I'm unsure whether to postpone it, take the bus or risk driving there.

Yes it is/was ... it is considerably less white now having had the door-cards and dashboard replaced. I really should update the thread.

Today I mostly made a major environmental hazard. Rubber mallet sums up nicely how smooth the oil and filter change went but it's all smaller jobs after this and I can actually drive the thing around now.

I am in a dangerous place cars wise, I have a hot hatch and a convertible moth balled and both due MOT next month, meantime running the 1.6 8v Picasso as a daily, which makes almost everything I look at/ drive seem brilliant in comparison.

Today I drove a 2008 Fabia 1.4 16v and found it a pleasurable experience.

AS, I think this man is down, send tat soon!
