The silver Swift passed with no advisories! Only thing wrong is that the oil filter is corroded,

If the filter is old enough to be rusty I can't imagine it's filtering very well.

I'd be giving it an oil and filter change pronto, followed by another one not long after.

Intresting, the guide triangle on my 500SEC pops off regularly. The full change progress story will be interesting.

Don't hold your breath! It's just a push fit. I had the original one off to tape up temporarily. The tricky bit for the new one is getting the belt through the middle of it - will need to unbolt the seatbelt.

Yep, it'll be getting done. Question is do I use the stuff I've already got that was destined for the blue car as it's due a service now too or order cheaper stuff...

In other news the spotlights on the blue car are now working. Suzuki decided to stick two fingers up at convection and come up with their own method of wiring headlights so I the relay now has two live feeds, no ground and the feed wire that triggers it is on the negative side of the headlight. Or something like that.

Feel your pain man, someone clouted Herman back in April on a roundabout:

11097006_10153259615579669_2002007344_o.

To make matters worse, she didn't say sorry, didn't give a shit, just gave me her details and fucked off. Never told her insurance and never answered the phone when they rang her either, just to make life more fucking awkward.

Still waitng for the accident to be "settled" and my insurance renewal is in 4 weeks, so that'll mean an expensive renewal, which may mean bye-bye Herman :(

Think you'll get her fixed?

As much as I have absolutely no interest in cosmetics and bodywork repairs and generally only focus on anything mechanical, yes it will have to visit a body shop and be repaired. It's too clean/low mileage/well historied not to really.

I'm pissed off that the expense has come around because some tit didn't have the balls to own up to it but nevermind, shit happens. It's a shame one of my proper shitters wasn't parked there as I wouldn't be bothered (or, the truck, for maximum damage points to their car).

Shame about the beemer. Some folk dont give a feck about other folks stuff. Really pisses me off.

Temporary FTP today.

Alarm had a  'FIT' after Chester attacked the rear door (desperate to get out and slobber all over the poor bloke who wanted to wash the car) and locked it.

Car washed (looks lovely!) and then alarm warnings all over the dash and random alarm events....

Got to the bank (tax refund from the Honda - £5.85!) and the car resolutely refused to start. Wouldn't even activate the starter motor. Finally, message appears on the dash: 'systems check initialised' and I had to sit there and play silly buggers while my cars 1998 ZX Spectrum computer slowly worked its way through whatever systems it needed to check.

When it had done all that, all the lights re-appear on the dash (and in the correct places - bonus!) and the car starts normally... and has been fine ever since.

I hate the ducking alarm on this bloody car!

That is a bit shit, JohnK.  Hope you find a decent place to do the repair, if you find a good painter locally can you let me know?  Mike and I are still on the lookout for more decent painters locally that won't just mess us around when it comes to older cars.

Drowning my sorrows following the damage to my E38, I did what any self respecting shiter would do with the money that would be better spent in the body shop.

I've agreed to buy another one.137630DE-0B31-4E0A-8A8D-9EE26708E949_zps

Cheeky after work collection tomorrow I reckon.

Ya' know summat, I've always wanted one of these and I feel at some point I will end up buying a 7-series.

Sitting waiting to turn right, across the oncoming, in Gateshead thismorning.... Fellah in a GM 900floppytop eases off and gives me a 'flash' :-P

..... however, I should say 'wink' as when he hit the stalk = only the Drivers MAIN flashed and simultaneously the passenger DIP went out.... :?

One small step for traffic flow, one HUGE smile for me...

First proper cold day down here today. I did my usual icy morning g routine of turning the BX on, whacking the heater up to full amd then going round scraping all the windows. Ten mins later the car was still chilly inside and the screen was barely beginning to clear.

It wasn't til I'd been driving for around 20 mins that I put my hand out over the air vent - flippin' icy air! Was freezing the whole way to work (35 miles of mostly motorway) but it hadn't lost any water, the blower was still blowing fine and in all other respects it was normal.

I went to get some lunch a few hours later and the heater was back to normal. Same on my way home.

WTF?

I usually use Guisborough Car Body Centre who are generally really good with older stuff and also yanks, but somebody has recommended Century Auto Refinishers on Skippers Lane in Middlesbrough. I gave them a call this afternoon and they are happy for me to pop down for an estimate and also look at the standard of their current work - will keep you posted.

Please draw a big penis on a piece of a4 paper and pop it in one of the bags, i think he would find that funny

WTF?

Feeble anti-freeze, marginal conditions, heater matrix full of slushy ice but engine not frozen quite yet.

At least the BMW damage was others fault! in the last few days I have reversed my wife's car into the Insight (no dent, large area of Matt paint from the muddy scrape) and then reversed my van into my house, hard enough to flatten the rear bumper supports. I only replaced the damn bumper a few months ago.

Ah right, I thought I hadn't seen any dodgy threads about collecting a trotter replica in a Renault 20 from him.

I don't want to cut the old one up and I don't think a replacement will be easy to find so I think i'll just fit a CD player in the glovebox instead and leave the orginal knackered radio as a ornament.

Nice KP-5800 there.

I can see your problem. In the good old days there weren't really hard standards. It looks like you need a radio with a 90mm "nose" rather that a lot of other wider ones. I'll have a think at what is narrow that might fit, but it's more like to be radio rather than radio cassette.

Other than that, get a universal under dash thingy and flip it over and cut away to hearts content?

If you still need a tray on top, then I'm sure there is something that could be stuck on the top of the universal mounting box that would be functional.
