Missus moog tried the merc today and I am not sure it is a success. She admitted she prefers the power and gear changes to her civic. Also said it wasn't as big as she thought it would be.

Overall it is a maybe. Going to think about it over the next few days before she makes a decision.

Looks like you were standing in the exact spot I was last year. The Welsh is a great event but it's a long way to go from down here

I saw your post and ummed and arred but was good and fitted a kichen rather than watching cars that were only half an hour away.

Next year I will have spare time to enjoy myself.

Any interest in buying a slightly shonky Dolly 1850HL? Need to rid myself of it in order to fund my newly aquired decade old Honda unfortunately...

No MOT and it'll need trailered but I'd rather it wasn't scrapped, bangered or parted out...

I'm also in no mood to deal with eBay/Gumtree mongs. I'd end up knocking somebody out with a torque wrench...

Just had Kyles car back with the new bumper on and sprayed. It looks shit! Doesn;t fit and is so low it hits on a matchbox! He is very disappointed and the lads that did it aren't happy either as it was a nightmare to get it to fit even that badly!

Paid for it and the Bentleys paintwork (again before the Bentleys finished!) and they charged me £1600! Basically they have sprayed the whole bottom of the car, both bumpers and still have to fit the parking sensors, paint them and a few other bits.

It's all getting rather expensive but if it is good when it's done, I'll get over  the cost!

Was browsing eBay when I happend upon a Mk2 Rover 825 SLi at a scrapyard in Birmingham. The reg seemed familar but I couldn't place it:

Now I'm sure I've seen the car somewhere in Birmingham, however when I stuck the reg into Google I found that the car had previously appeared in an episode of 'Midsomer Murders' (and yes I know, that 'Bergerac' bloke who appears in it had a KV6 Sterling in early episodes)

I've made enquiries about it. It is a lot nicer body-wise than mine.

if you need to go visit this i are able to transport you betwixt tysely/spring road/ hall green/acocks green stations and slade if required

Fiesta did this today.

Could put it up with New Everyday Ford tax, just* a genuine* 63 miles....

I do enjoy it, and don't really want to move it on unless I really have to. You know what I'll probably store it at my Dads and screw the part-ex value or whatevs as and when I do get something else. Heading towards 50k in my ownership now!

I like that it has a Nintendo Game & Watch built in to the dashboard.

Had a hankering after another Omega lately for some reason. I've always liked them and loved the couple I have had.

I've been looking for either an Elite or MV6 and have had 2 of the latter on my eBay watch list for the last couple of weeks, both at the same price.

The guy didn't seem keen to budge on price on the black one and I ended up missing out. Struck a bit of conversation up with the owner of the silver car tonight though and made some arrangements.

Looks like I will be on the train to work tomorrow or Tuesday so I can collect on the way home.

I'm off to Brooklands motorsport day tomorrow. It's the last chance to see my Lancia nut mate before he moves back to Scotlandshire from Surrey, so as a treat* for him I'll be taking the Daimler. It's a tad dirty and running like a bag of shit despite some carb tweaks today, but woe betide any marshall who doesn't let me in via the classics only gate....My mate is bringing his Delta HF Turbo so I'll try and get some pics of the two together.

Had a great day at Brooklands. Didn't get a chance to pap the Daimler next to my mate's Delta, but here it is next to some huge yank thing. Lovely car and pleasant owner too, he has nine others...

The journey home took longer than planned, as the middle exhaust section decided to detach from the front downpipe, cue loads of noise and loss of power. It was a bodge from a previous owner that had come undone, so the AA man did me another bodge to get me home. So that's another thing for the To Do list! Apart from that it drove well and isn't drinking so heavily since i fiddled with the carbs.

I spent 2 hours this afternoon getting the G3 from under the bonnet and on the slam panel of the saph, it's been there since it got painted it's the first chance I've had to do a proper job of itpost-4828-0-51744300-1444598527_thumb.jpg

I still need to clean bits of grime off the plastics and apply wax to the inner wings and chassis legs and get the G3 out of the boot shuts

G3 is a nightmare to shift. I remember when me and a mate painted my 106 - it needed a good flat and buff and he lent me the buffer and left me to it. I ended up flinging g3 all over the place, and even after just a couple of days it was impossible to shift! I think I used WD40 to soften it in the end, horrible stuff.

Is the Omega a 3.2 manual or has it been slowed down with an automatic box?

I keep wondering whether to have a go whilst they're still cheap. Is the Elite a specced up special edition or something? I'd fancy an early estate for load lugging ability, plus they look good IMO.

I found the Omega very disappointing.  It feels fairly solid and well made but to drive - auto version, this is - I found the whole experience just frustrating.  Poor visibility, loads of blindspots, horrible seats, nasty feeling door furniture and a car that felt uninspiring to drive.  Perhaps the manuals are better.

I have consulted my oracle of tat wisdom.

Elite is top spec for Omegas.

The Sierra is running quite poorly at the moment and cutting out on idle so on the way to the old man's to strip the carb i stopped at a local show where bumped into oldford of this forum who owns the immaculate blue one, it turns out a vacuum pipe had come off, he refitted it and it was much better. I took a couple of photos at the show.

This Carlton was my favorite. a late 3000 GSi with the digital dash.

After the show I still went to dad's but stopped off at my friends whom I bought the Sierra off to show him the car. He was very pleased to see it and couldn't believe it was the same car! We spoke about the Ital Van again and it might be a gooer over the winter but im not sure if I'll be able to find room for it.

I did take some fresh photos of his dad's old Marina that's sat in the garden since he died in 1990 with only 35000 miles.

After that I went to dad's but couldn't find the carb kit I've just bought anywhere which meant I couldn't fix this Poxy splitterly carb (i think I have some shit in my slow idle jet) I talked him into taking my old Cortina out for a drive.

It was nice to see it out, it's such a pretty car that turns so many heads.

quote

In some cases, colours may vary. Vehicles registered as classic cars can carry black plates with silver or white characters and without the blue bands on the sides. Vehicles in transit on French territory must carry a red plate with white characters. Instead of the regional code, the right hand band displays the expiry date of the plate. Vehicles purchased in the free trade zones of Gex and Savoie also carry red plates, but with the regional code. Diplomatic vehicles carry green plates with orange or white characters. Vehicles owned by the French Forces and Civilian Elements stationed in Germany (FFECSA) carry a pale blue plate with white characters.[3]

but you can have it for 450,or 6 monthly payments of 75 quid. Only problem is it is in Cheshire. Feel free to tell me to piss off,but just a suggestion.

An honourable suggestion the judge. Captain_70s, you've been personally and individually invited to take an out an innovative financial product called ShiteCredit. WCPGW?

You don't even need a train ticket...

You should. My opinion is they drive very well (much more like a 5-series than BMW would ever care to admit, that's for sure!) and I don't think they are bad looking cars either. My mate had a 3.0 Auto Estate for a bit and it had a massive loadspace as well. It's not quite as useful as, say a Volvo 740 Estate, as it's a bit more rounded, but nonetheless it's not bad at all.

Elite is the top spec (I'm fairly sure it goes GLS, CD, CDX then Elite). I'm not quite sure where the MV6 fits in the range, it's kind of a sporty trim level and not much else really, a bit like the Vectra SRi. A late 2003/2004 3.2 Elite would have been perfect, but for the money I'm not going to complain with this 2001 model.

Is the Omega a 3.2 manual or has it been slowed down with an automatic box?

It's a slushbox which was a personal choice and it is the baby 2.6, no 3litre+ goodness here!

Visibility can be troublesome, particularly from the rear because they have that kind of raked stance - low, slimline front end with a higher, fat arse.

As for the trim etc, it isn't fantastic by any means (particularly for what was meant to be the 'luxury' model), but it is a world apart from the Vectra B, which was even cheaper, nastier plastics, even on higher spec ones.

I've had 80 cars in 9 years of driving and the longest standing car on the fleet was my old 2000 'X' Omega 2.5 Auto. It was a CDX spec and I had it nearly 5 years (November 2010 to August 2015). - the only other thing that has come close was my B reg 190E, which I bought in June 2011 but has been breaking for the past 2 years. At least the Omega was roadworthy for it's entire time with me! Which reminds me, I need to get on with weighing the remains of that 190 in.

Have been working away for a couple of weeks so left the keys for the Mercury with the local friendly garage. I had ordered the parts required for the MOT from Rock Auto and had them delivered to said garage. On my return on Friday I was pleased to find the Mercury back on the drive with new MOT certificate on the seat! Yay!

Now road legal!

The parts were remarkably well priced too. £58 ish including shipping for a track rod end, anti roll bar linkage, CV joint rubber boots and a transmission range sensor.

The digital speedometer is still only working after a mile or so/until the engine is warm then puts on the 'check engine' light though.... More investigation needed. Have ordered a OBD 1 EEC Ford code reader from America ($29) to find the fault code. The light resets every time the ignition is turned off/on again until driven a couple of miles. Am assuming that one of the sensors implicated is giving no (or a bad) output. New VSS and TRS have been fitted so far but no improvement to the speedo issue, although the autobox appears to be changing up and down properly now.

Mysterious.

Got two 20 litre tubs of new veg oil last night and as I was putting them in the boot, a lad in an old Iveco Daily pulled up and said he used it too. He reckons people are selling filtered WVO for 75p per litre and yet new it's about 61p.

Had a good chat with him, he certainly knew his stuff and was telling me about a problem with rats when he recycled his own.

See, if you replace 'Omega' for 'Corsa' this mirrors exactly what I thought of the AS wunder-auto.

Then it broke down during my driving test and I hate Netto (for some reason, I wasn't aware of this).

Is this the same bloke who found another one under a tree, wrangled the chance to buy it and ended up with a knackered teabag? Ex bakery Atlas is particularly lovely.

Yeast it's not rotten

Very good.
