Decided to be brave and head to the railway after all. Dawdling twats added stress to the journey, but I just made it in time for the train. Weather is horrible.

Regular readers may remember the old Mini van that I did a bare shell rebuild on a few years back.....

and then in my usual manner got immediately bored with it when it was 99% completed, drove it less than 100km in total and sold it for a pittance.

Well, apparently, this is it....

Following on from the recent tide of Rover LOVIN we've got on here, today I went to see a local-to-me 214 SEi that's been featured on the Rover forum..

http://www.aronline.co.uk/blogs/ar-cars/ebay-finds-of-the-week-chance-to-rescue-a-death-row-metro-or-200/

Luckily it was still there.

It really is as good as it looks in the photos, the spotlamps are indeed comically oversized and the chrome arch trims leave a lot to be desired but it is very straight on the bodywork, no rust and it did have a bit of a shine to it (it was pouring it down so I didn't stay long)

Well worth saving if any of you are still needing some HOT ROVA ACTSHUN.

Friday morning i collected this

Alnwick%201_zpspotocqfk.jpg

On further investigation it was attached to this

Alnwick_zps37izmanf.jpg

62plate with 55thou very hard miles under it's wheels. Now i did start to shake when the Yank from the Enterprise TV ad pointed to the Renault amongst a sea of resale silver Vauxhall vans.

I'll tell you all what,it is a fine van.No Dci shitting it's self or rena electric tomfoolery.

The reason for the van was the largest wedding we have ever done, closing Alnwick castle for the weekend.

Out in one of the car parks this fine collection

One of my favourite ferrraris. But that silver does nothing for it at all.

Trains were a bit meh. Classics were a bit sodden and formulaic. Then a Deltic happened. PHWOAR! Blokes hanging out of every window as he blatted it through the tunnel. I'm hoping my video captured the joy. Only just home - Kidderminster to home in 2hrs, averaging 40mph. On twisty single-carriageway roads. In the wet. No speed limits were broken. I genuinely don't think I could have safely driven any faster, even if you gave me a Veyron. Should you have a Veyron and wish to put this to the test, do drop me a line.

I've only ever seen one of those in the tin once and I concur completely.  As a rule, I don't like Ferraris but there's something about the Dino that's just so right, even the noise they make is pleasing rather than the screeching harpy you usually get from the Italian pony cars.  I probably like them most of all because they remind me of a Renault Alpine A110, which I'm still yet to see in the tin.

+1 on being a closet ferrari fancier. I've always loved the 412 after seeing one on the opening sequence of Rain Man as a kid, though my faves are 50s-60s sports racing prototypes.

I agree with the above - old Ferraris are things of beauty and just glorious. New Ferraris... not so much but times change and so, unfortunately do the buyers!

I tried to buy a Ferrari once, I was young and stupid and did things like that! It was a 330 GTC in a similar silver to that and it was in a dealers in Grimsby. It was CHEAP: started at about two grand and when it got to twelve hundred quid (! Yes really) I tried to buy it. The only insurance I could get was 'Road traffic act only' and they wanted......

Two grand!

Even I, young, stupid and (relatively) cash rich couldn't do that! :(

Just about recovered from a very busy weekend with the Maestro and the Victor. Festival of the Unexceptional on Saturday, Super Dooper Seventies Day yesterday. Met lots of people including two or three 'shiters, and had fun dressing up as an old giffer when I drove the Maestro to the Festival.

Over the last week, I've been interviewed by BBC Essex, Radio 4 and the Telegraph. The BBC Essex interview went out on Saturday morning, if anyone's interested I'm on about 1:22. I talk about the Maestro quite a lot. http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p02x45l8

Started the saab up this morning and no smoke.

It had been sitting for a few days but I can't think of a reason that it would stop smoking at start up. Only change is that the exhaust is now sealed with gungum.

Got a turbo being delivered today so not quite sure whether to return it or just change it.

I like the interviewers confidence in Angrydick's Maestro "Will it make it to the event?" Good interview though.

Popped to SCB in Edinburgh yesterday. Got the scuttle trim clips and the wheel arch liner parts for the 75. That a and a lot of little spares that are hard to get for the Reliant all for a £10. Can't go wrong.

Moog , Saab turbos are weird things , mine went on the 9-5 and I replaced it with a recon unit from midland turbos . It would blue smoke some mornings . I've used midland for turbos loads of times and never had an issue . I tried loads of things before I discovered a pattern and now I live with it .

If I do a long run and the car is nice and hot when I key off then it won't smoke the next morning . If I just move it out of the workshop and bring it back in at the end of the day it smokes !

I noticed two other customers saabs that do the same . Never smoke in everyday good use but puff out loads of blue on stop start stuff .

My theory is that when the oil pressure is highest ( cold oil ) and engine switched off it must push a little oil past the turbo seals . Obviously when it's warm the pressure is much lower so it won't do it .

My theory is kind of backed up by the cheapy Chinese turbos needing a restrictor in the oil feed to stop them blowing seals .

So be happy you have good oil pressure

Echoing twosmoke, isn't the Saab turbo thing to do with the usage pattern. My brothers 9-3 blows smoke after being run cold.

I thought it was something to do with expansion within the turbo- when it's run nice and hot then the seal is that few microns tighter and won't let any oil past, whereas when it's cold you get a bit of leakage. The oil pressure idea when cold also makes sense.

Saabs are Garrett turbos that are gravity fed oil outflow right?

Could be the outflow drain is a little blocked and it's blowing a bit of oil back through the seals. I've wondered about fitting a little scavenge pump to help things.

I used the 316 to bring some retro class to a local 'big hoose' spot today.

starts lovely from cold with a spot of choke. ftw!

Love the "Up Yours Clarkson" notice on the window of the giffer's Allegro!

Cheers for advice.

Is it worth changing it?

Only tends to be a big puff on start up from cold. Once warm it is fine. It's not like I have a trail of smoke down the road

Got 197k on the clock. If I can save £150 I will.
