Dacias seem to be selling astonishingly well around here.

Aye, lots of them around here too. I still haven't seen an 'Access' model, surely the sensible version to buy.

An alarming number of them have private number plates.

This weekend on the A4:

Oil change.

Replace clips on undertray/sump protector.

Declare new bumpers necessary due to filler, bodges and crap paint.

Remove masking tape coated in paint and filler primer from bonnet - terrible spray job.

Discover 2 out of 3 of the mounting brackets on the NS headlight are broken, it's being held in by a single bolt and the indicator, which also has a broken mounting clip. OS headlight, indicator, and lamp washer cover have all been replaced previously and don't quite match.

I think Old Man eventually wants facelift projector headlight/indicator units (combined), but for now we've got a full set of lights and indicators on the way for £20.

There's a site that breaks down new car sales figures by 'UK nation'. For Scotland the Sandero is always steadfastly a top 10 seller which does nothing to dispel the sterotype of us being a nation of tight bastards.

A mate of mine had an interview for a job at a Dacia/Used Renault showroom and the sales manager told him that the margins on the Dacia stuff was so low that whenever a salesman told him he'd converted a used Renault sale to a Dacia one he felt like crying.

Saw this today. While not exactly shite, the fuel flap wouldn't stay closed.. I plainly heard the driver say "Ah fer fuck sake!"

And here (Southend-on-Sea); the Logan MCV seems to be quite popular with taxi drivers. Also, I saw a brand new base spec Sandero with unpainted bumpers yesterday evening :)

Had a slight 'moment' over the N Yorks Moors today, going to Filey.

As you pass the EW station (used to be Golfballs) there is a fair straight - but with a dip!

I scanned the road ahead and decided (watching the dip!!!) to have one in the queue behind this Motorhome....

Still scanning ahead, as I pulled out, SUDDENLY I see this 'TINY SPOT' of light in the distance.. 'Biker', says I!

However as he was [probably*] doing 140MPH he was closing rather quickly... He passed me (I pulled into my space fine) SO FUKKINN FAST that, wheras you usually hear a big bike 'Rarrrr...' past - I only heard 'Bapp - nothing'.

*fantasy velocities may be argued over..... I WAS THERE!!!!!!

Think Bike.... err, I WAS

A friend of mine works works at RAF Fylingdales which is the old "Golf Balls" site and about once a month they turn the radar off so the air ambulance can come and collect the latest biker laid face down. Not bad on a basically straight road in the middle of nowhere.

The radar transmits so much microwave power the helicopters won't go within about 5 miles of it when it's switched on

Dacias would appear to be outselling every other maker in France judging by my recent experiences.

The A169 is a bloody lovely road to drive when there's no disturbances. My personal record from Whitby sorting office to York mail centre, abiding the 30mph limits in town, was 57 minutes. Not bad for a DAF LF 7.5 tonner, admittedly in the last few months before they were all governed to 56mph. Still, that was at 2-3am, so quite literally nothing on the roads until the outskirts of York.

Fylingdales is the centre of a chain of 3 radar stations to notify the US of A they've pissed the Russians off a bit too much, detects Intercontinental missile launches etc. Other 2 are in Alaska and Asia IIRC. It's a joint exercise between UK and US but they will get a lot more warning than us and doubtless US dollars built it.

In the cruise missile/ Greenham Common days it had its own group of hairy women out the front, though it's a watcher, not a shooter so there were no missiles to send home.

Thanks for the info. I tend to put these in the annoyed, but can't do anything so ignore section of my brain.

If that's a genuine Aston, then I'm a genuine Beatle. No wonder the driver was cursing.

I thought it was a fake so I RAN THE PLATES and its apparently real. It looks all wonky like a how banham replica Audi TT is VS a real one, or the newest new mini does vs the oldest new mini.

I thought that, but it shows up on Doovla that it is...

According to ukvehicle.com, it's an Aston Martin Virage V12 Auto registered in 1999.  It does look odd though.

Moreover, I'm sure that in '99, a Virage looked like this:

Oh that makes sense then, its a kit on a real aston! I presumed they would use something like a Rover 75 or a 110 landy as a chassis if they were kit cars.

Seems like madness if they have, to me the original is one of the best-looking Astons whereas that, on closer inspection, looks a bit awkward.

Spent the last few hours cleaning the hearse ready for a show at Powderham castle tomorrow with the classic hearse register. They are a bloody big old car !!, but the paint is really good and the quality puts my Rolls to shame. The only bit that lets it down is the lower half of one front wing has been resprayed and although it is good it's nowhere near as good as the factory finish. It had better not rain between now and sunday afternoon.

Was looking out for you today at Powderham Mr Panhard, saw the hearses, but no senator?

I couldn't be bothered going to Billing today, so did the short trip to Brands Hatch and watched some historics instead. Didn't pap any of the actual racing but here's a few pics from the Paddock.

Mint Rover 25 next to other things. Bit far away but there were cars whizzing up and down, so not worth getting run over just to pap sum old Rovah.

Didn't bother today as it was chucking it down with rain when I was going to leave. Was there all day yesterday which was a lovely day.

I got some Bilthamber Dynax UB & UC, underseal and a waxoil like product so i got all the underside of the Shuma done. Nice and soild under there, not bad for some 2001 korean white goods that should be bean cans by now. Front wing not looking so good so this will need a trip to the body shop or replaced.

My Dad was visiting at the weekend and he wanted/I made him have a look at the P6. I was saying to him all the panels bolts on and off etc so it's easy to repair and he says casually oh aye I remember I re-shelled one of these once it was a lot of work.

That was it.

My interest in 80's 90's cars is totally beyond him as he harbours grudges against many of them after fixing/welding them up as a job for years . I remember he once blew up a mk2 granada after welding too close to the fuel tank.

None of his skill has passed to me.

The vitesse was on the road as recently as 2007 despite having a great view of the road beneath your feet.....

insurance up for renewel and current insurer sent me a letter saying up yours on renewel i went back to the aa whom i was previously with but hit a snag as my marriage ended a bit messy 2 year ago i got left with a common assault charge, this ment that the aa had to refer to there 'select' team and then speak to the insurer offering the policy.

Changed rear pads on Volvo.

Refreshing to see how quick job it all was and to see that pads were worn evenly.

Also had a chance to have a proper once over (under) to see if there is anything to do before the MOT in 2 weeks time. I couldn't see anything other than tiny leak from gearbox. Will have to investigate later.

I do love my Swedish tank.

Had the A4's sunroof switch apart today to see if that was the reason it wouldn't open. Found a broken looking bit of metal in the switch that was soldered back together. No difference, so presumably the motor is shagged.

The drain plug for the diff has a hexagonal hole in it, but the filler plug has a round hole in it instead. Does anyone know how you remove it?

Posted

Perhaps it should have been hexagonal but now rounded off? Weld a nut to it may be best idea.
