Had my first proper run out in the mr2 today. Was nice to be behind the wheel for a while instead of fixing/rustproofing it. Insisted in having the t-bar roof panels out so I could hear the engine note better. All good apart from the missus got a stiff neck from the cold wind blowing through. Nice to get some use out if it rather than just spending money on it!

Buy her a nice scarf. Sorted.

That's exactly what I said! On a good note she seemed to like the car which is a good thing as it's not every women's cup of tea with it's harsh ride, noise and lack of creature comforts. Was a bit disappointed that I got outrun by a couple of diesel vans up the crawler lane on the A47 though even though I was only at 8/10ths. Well at least it feels fast!

Bought this crock for spares today. 948cc 1957 vintage. Off the road since 1990, kept in a lock up garage which was broken in to by local scrotes, who predictably smashed the windows and set fire to a newspaper in the glove box, burning out the dashboard. The fire brigade put the fire out put pulled the bonnet open to ensure the fire was out.

It was collected by the local scrap man, who was stationary at traffic lights when the guy I bought it from rescued it.

It runs and drives (apparently) and the body is amazingly solid. Miles more solid than my roadgoing example. Sills, floors and the like are mint.

Scrap? Strip and sell the shell on? Restore?? Arrgh!!

Yeah, but I don't have the budget to do that.. It would probably make more sense to reshell my 1969 car into this one.

Saw a beautiful Alfa Spider parked up round the corner. Bright red (predictably) but still wearing its (black) hardtop when the sun was doing its best to blister the paint off! Kamm tailed one on an 'E' reg and it really was properly spot on... Apart from the bug ugly door mirrors which had severe alloy corrosion and a distinct lack of paint.

noticed colleguse car was was blowing an amount of blue tinge from the exhaust, she says its using litre oil every 2.5k and she tops up when light comes on, its a peugeout 207 cc turbo 1.6 2007, had a look there oil around top of the turbo oil feed pipes, exhaust is very black and sooty!!

google says up to 2010 peugeout was aware and remedy the fault.

EuroTunnel booked this morning using Tesco Club card tokens for a long weekend in August looking at French/Belgian WW1 battle sites.

Car of choice, Citroen DS in Company with a MGB.

Edging closer to buying some french shite today. It will call for a return trip to collect if I do go ahead though. It's made for a peaceful holiday with Mrs JohnK now not talking to me.

A frame & trailer board at the back of the boot.

Once hitched,(15 mins) she won't even know it's there.

Ask me how I know.....

Was away in the caravan at the weekend. Saw a mint Morris Marina, one MK3 Robin and a Sherpa. All in two days, take weeks to see automotive quality of that standard where i live.

How bad is the interior? I'd vote save, but I'm a sentimental old fool.

Apart from the burnt out dash and headlining it's not too bad really, although the passenger seat has a big scorch mark on the side where some little twat has set it alight.

Skoda Yeti needs to move on shortly as it's still depreciating rapidly.

It's handy to have access to something that takes big boxy loads from time to time, though, so naturally I'm looking at 1990s Range Rovers while they're still cheap-ish.

An hour on charge all is well.

Not all Vauxhall's  are shite but No2 son gets a kick up the harris.

Agreed - also under consideration, although late 90s means ABS and eleventy other extra reasons to fail an MOT.

Aye, brookjm's rather lovely Volvo 760 has already been noted.  This vehicle will be shared with a friend though, and as he's Welsh rather than Scottish I'm not sure his taste runs to Volvos.  I shall see him tomorrow and ask.

So, if you were to punt it on as a going concern, what would be considered financially acceptable? I dislike Minors as a general rule, yet also have a massive soft spot for them...

...I could just use the same solution that other 2CVers (and my wife) seem to employ, which is to get so drunk that comfort simply doesn't matter. I don't like drinking though.

Me neither.  And if I do, I have to get up for a piss four times in the night.  Which is inconvenient.

Don't get old, kids...

Just been out to check a nagging thought, and confirmed the Disco doesn't have abs.....

It's never shown an ABS light when switching the ignition on,just the SRS.

I don't think it's been removed either as the brake pipes are obviously factory.

No pump and no sensors on the hubs either....

1 less thing to worry about then !

Oh marvellous. Yesterday I found a old AC glass fuel pump at a autojumble for £1, it's the same as what my Mk1 should have so quickly bought that bad boy up.

Today I stripped it all down and gave it a good clean, It will need a repair kit for the diaphragm but I thought I'd try it on the car just to see what happens, anyway the car started and then died a few minutes later with no fuel coming up the pipe, so I removed it and fitted the old pump back on only to over tighten the bastard fuel pipe union and cracked the pump housing.

Fucksticks.

Remote tailgate release on the focus inoperative.

Had a look at the wires going into the tailgate - two broken. Sadly, too corroded to solder.

A couple of crimp connectors got things working again.

There's only one spanner in my garage, and it's not the one in my tool box.

I've got one of those universal spanners, it'll screw up anything.
