Are hand Car washes much more expensive than they were last year?

I used to be able to get a quick wash and rinse but no dry for Ã‚£3.00 locally but now that car wash has closed so Friday I went to Tesco's who wanted Ã‚£10.00 for our Volvo V70 XC but I negotiated it down to Ã‚£7.00 for a wash and dry with no wax. Today I took the V70 T5 to a different car wash for Ã‚£6.00 with a compulsory dry.

How much are the car washes around you just for a basic outside wash?

£5.00 at the station car wash in Scunthorpe, £6.00 at the Dolphin in Grimsby (but they have an actual WEBSITE and a BUILDING and other $$OVERHEADZ$$)

Come on. This is Autoshite. We clean our own cars. Infrequently.

I used to send my children to school in clean clothes, now I send my wife to work in a clean car!

The Dolphin one opposite the cop shop is the business, I always use them :)

The car wash guys using the unit next to ours charge £3.99 for a basic wash and dry.  They do a really good job too, or good enough for me to trust them not to make a mess of my car at any rate.

We charge £20 to valet a car at work (usually while the customer is driving one of the vans). We'll probably charge my former employer a little more though as it took me 3 hours to get their LDV Maxus looking faintly presentable on Saturday.post-4555-0-06008000-1422298790_thumb.jpg

It was getting close to the point where new types of microorganisms were likely to develop amongst the grub. I was close to pressure washing the inside but I probably wouldn't have been popular if I gave it any more electrical issues being as my clever idea to get the tachograph disconnected (by a mechanic) caused enough issues to sideline it for six months.

I won't pay an immigrant a fair wage to do all the hard work and wash my car for me. They probably wont pay any tax on the money I give them.

Instead, I go to the BP jetwash and do all the hard work myself and all my money goes directly to a faceless corporation who probably wont pay any tax either.

However, before you call me unfair, remember that BP are responsible for one of the largest handouts of free fuel in history giving away up to 627,000 tonnes of the stuff to the oil poor wildlife of the Gulf of Mexico. *

*Despite writing this out as a joke, I don't think I will go back there at all having looked at it like this.

The Tescos in Norwich charges £2.50 for a basic wash, but it's shit.  The Esso round the corner from there is £3.49 for the cheapest, but it does a much better job.  There's also a jetwash at the Jet garage which is £1.25 for 3 minutes - one of the machines there used to have a leaking hose which put out enough water to scrub most of the dirt off the car even when the machine wasn't running, so I used to do that and then just give it a minute with the shampoo and two minutes with the high-pressure rinse, during which I managed to give the underside of the car a quick blast too.  Sadly they've now fixed the machine. :(

Local Romanians start at a fiver, but I've not used them yet.

This is still being recovered as we speak, how long does it take to get something back on its wheels and buggered off.

Im trying desperately to love the Panhard, but it's just not the car it should be. Needs more power, horrible gearchange, bad driving position, noisy (by Panhard standards) and just a bit too 'odd' to drive.

And then I look at it and fall in love again. More powerful engine will happen at some point and maybe then I'll like it the way I should

Driving a Panhard 24 is... well... like making love to a beautiful French woman.

It can get awkward at times, uncomfortable even... You may even find yourself wondering whether she's just overrated and a British model would have been better.  But every time you're out with her in public, you'll see the envy in the eyes of others and you'll know you've made the right choice !

I quite enjoyed my 24 and it did fly once it was wound up but I think it had been messed with as it had twin plug heads although it didn't have the correct distributor to make it work. The gearchange is shit though. There was a completely stripped RHD one in oxford a few years ago that I could of had cheap but my trailer got nicked so I couldn't collect it and never heard anymore about it. Seems that the guy who finally bought my BT has done nothing with it as it has been sorned ever since. Have some pictures anyway as you can never see too much of a 24 even if they are a bit crap to drive.

If you drive a few miles down the road into civilisation*, there are quite a few really good car washes in Milton Keynes all charge £5.00 outside £10.00 in and out. The best are the 'Roni' ones, I get my work car ( black e61) done 3 or 4 times a week at this time of year. I'm convinced they do as good a job as so called valeters from a few years ago that charged £40/50.

They charge a couple of quid more for 4x4s, doesn't make sense that my Chrysler 300 estate was a fiver but Mrs N's Gaylander is £8.00.

*Shudder*, I'd feel ill if I subjected the ZX to anything other than a full days washing with the finest' Dodo Juice Shampoo and 2 buckets... which is why I'm leaving it steaming dirty atm, as I cba to wash it, but when I do, I want to do it right!

It's white on top with salt, and brown at the bottom with mud as I had to detour to get out of standstill traffic this morning and may* have found the old dirt track where myself and friends smoked weed back at school, which is a marvellous cut through from where I was stuck to the town where I work. Sadly no biftas were smoked, but happy memories came flooding back.

Where were we, ah yes, all swirlomatics r shit, it's winter ffs, the season for getting a car absolutly minging filthy ready for the spring detail!

The Andy Saunders car was exported because it fell foul of VOSA. It looked like a lot of fun, but BEAVER PATROL is all knowing so it had to go. Shame.

The problem with our one is that it has the 42bhp PL17 engine when it should have the 50bhp unit. We'll put a 60bhp Tiger jobbie in which should make it a lot better. They'll do a genuine 100mph which is probably as fat as you need to go in a car with such shit brakes

I'm sure Swiss Tony would be much naughtier, something like "get a firm grasp on your stick and, when you are ready, firmly thrust it into engagement. At first she may protest but she'll soon be purring."

Round here. car washes run from £2.50 upwards. Most are about a fiver and seem to do a good job. The best are the Polish chaps with their hand wash for a five spot.

When I'm feeling fit, I still do it myself (I'm cheap and begrudge spending) and use a bucket and sponge and then hobble back and forwards with said bucket to rinse!

I start off feeling okay and end up a sweaty, destroyed sack of heaving fat on the front room floor and regret it for days!

My local petrol station offers free a basic car wash when you fill the tank.

Admittedly the car wash is a bit shit, but its free and I'll be fucked if I'm washing it myself or paying someone when I can have it done badly for nowt.

Last week I wanted the Merc washed, I usually go to a couple lf Algerian lads based next to the local Mosque but for some reason I had the car washed by the local Pakistani outfit, he even jetwashed the rubber mats. He did a good job all for £2.50.

Top tip. In truth I do like a bit of a shite town. Top of my list is workington closely followed by Middlesbrough and margate.

I recommend* Rugeley.

I really love those Panhards. I don't think there is a car out there I like the look of more than I do those.

Pay someone to wash the car? What do you think - that I'm made of money?

Anyway, I thought most of the hand car wash places were fronts for some kind of illegal activity hence it didn't matter that it was only £2 for a car wash as they were taking £10k a day selling crystal meth round the back?

"Meanwhile, behind the façade of this innocent-looking hand car wash..."

Batman innit. No? Well fuck you.

I relish glove that I hate washing cars but I've only ever used a car wash maybe twice on my own vehicle (although I've stuffed the work's van through many times). There's nothing like washing your car for catching up with all those trolley dings, car park scrapes and scratches it's picked up since the last time you washed it. My wife reckons I must love wsshing cars because I do it so much, so I tell her she must love doing the ironing for similar reasons...
