Collected the1989 Pajero V6 3000 yesterday evening after many repairs had to be done. It needed new wings in front, some welding at the sills, new brake-lines, fuel-lines, a new clutch, a new cambelt + all the stuff that goes with it, a new exhaust and some small other bits and pieces.

Runs great now (170.500 km on the clock), except a crunchy second gear, a faulty thermostat (engine does not get warm) and the heater-fan passing out sometimes and starting to work again suddenly. Most of the time.

Sadly I´ll have to get rid of the front-guard, it´s not allowed because of pedestrian-safety-laws.  :? Next days, I will clean it and look at the faults if I can repair them (except the crunchy second gear). I am as talented like Jeremy Clarkson, but there is hope.  :-D

Love it! So much faster, smoother and more fun to drive than my 2,5 TD.

Thats a smart looking thing!

What do these ride like? bouncy? are they leaf springs or coils on the back? Torsion bars on the front, or Macpherson struts?

Hooray, replacement gear linkage fitted by Mikeknight earlier today and now it works.  Apparently all the notchiness in the gear change is gone, that's quite an achievement on a Citroen.

They are the smoothest an old offroader can ride, except the Range Rover Classic.

The V6 has coils on the back, my other Pajero (2,5 TD) has leaf-springs. Both have torsion bars at the front.

Very comfortable for such a thing. The LWB-ones ride even smoother, the SWB is a bit more nervous on bad roads. But compared to the LandCruiser J7, the Daihatsu Rocky or the Puch G of the same age, it´s almost car-like. That was the secret of its success and why it became the starter of the big offroad-car-boom in the 1990s. The Pajero was much more comfortable and very well equipped, but able to go offroad and do heavy towing too. For half the price of a Range Rover Classic. From the mid-80s until the end of the 1990s it was the best selling offroad-car in Austria. Now, most of them are gone because they are very rust-prone, especially the chassis.

Drat. Have just remembered that my car insurance runs out on the 22nd December. What bloody idiotic timing that is! I'm not sure how I ended up with a December renewal, but I think it was sparked by me buying a Landy V8 four years ago, and Footman James then refusing to insure it, forcing me to go elsewhere. Four years on and that thing is still a pain in the arse.

Just dropped off the ex-Bo11ox 25 gti with Barry Shitpeas. Drive like a dream, didn't kettle and had plenty of go.

Is this a bolloxlease rental agreement on the go here?

My Rover has an MOT due date of 22 Dec, but not until next year however I know thats gonna be a killer come next year. I might just have it tested in September to try and break that cycle...

I imagine a failing 75 could ruin a Christmas or two..

On the bright side, if the HG goes spectacularly at MOT-time, you could use it to steam the sprouts and Christmas pudding ;)

My Father in law sold his Porsche 928 as a project car on ebay, stating it hadn't been on the road for 17 years and needed to be trailered away.

Today the knobjockeys arrive and reveal they are going to drive it home. They are swiftly informed of the bonnet not being attached properly, and to cap it all once the car is on throttle, it now runs roughly and cuts out when under load.

Needless to say they didn't buy but instead wanted compensating for their time.

I'd have told them to FRO personally.

Anyone want a cheap porka?

Did he not tell them to FRO? I hope they travelled 800 miles and went home empty handed.

Collected the Plymouth on Saturday and it's now residing at a friend's house. No fancy collection thread as it was loaded onto a flat bed and hauled across town in about 20 minutes.

First impressions are that it's got great bones and shouldn't take too much to get it roadworthy, there's no MOT required here which helps massively. I can get it registered (equivalent of road tax) on an antique plate for around $40 a year.

Plywood dash, aftermarket gauges with original speedo. The speedo isn't hooked up, and not sure the gas and temp gauges work.

One door panel missing but the bench seat is fine.

That's a 440 (that's 7.2L) from a 1974 Chrysler New Yorker. These lumps are super low compression (around 8:1) due to federal emission requirements. Quoted mpg for the New Yorker was in the 7-12 mpg range. The aluminium firewall is made from an old road sign!

Went through the numerous boxes of parts that came with the car and just put a little of the bright work on to see what she'll look like.

Plan is to get it drivable as soon as possible. The battery is flat although it will start with a jump start, I'll stick it on a charger and see if it comes back. It's just over 3 years old so it's borderline.

I need to get some lights on it, brake and turn signals first and I think most of the wiring is already in place.

I need to sort out the brakes. I think the rear ones are stuck on and I don't trust using the original 1950 drum brakes up front to stop this thing in any sort of a hurry. Disc conversion is planned.

That's glorious, how can anyone be mad at anyone for purchasing that?

My christmas commission challenge has been this adorable modern-ish pedal-train.  They look nowhere near as posh as this when new, so I'm pleased about that side of things.  Almost at the point of just putting it all back together now.

My only fear is for the shins of adults when the little guy this is for gets behind the wheel.

Having just received an original, boxed Jaguar leaper keyring as a present, I've now discovered that the one I got with my main dealer-supplied, approved-used S Type was a knockoff. Cheeky bastards!

The s4 doesn't look bad. So it's been off the road 15 years ? I wish I had the plums to take it on but I fear it'd sit in my lockup for another 10 years

I reckon it's smaller and less scary than the Merc you currently have .... go on, do it, you know it makes sense  :D

Unfortunately I'm already at the hiding chod stage so can't take on any more or I'd be tempted.

Hiding chod , so you've reached level 4 in the game of autoshite then? :)
