Went down to west sussex this morning to meet up with some other local 2cv groups and watch the veteran cars go past on their way to Brighton. Lots of nice cars about too. And a really nice coach.

Puch Maxi also departed the premises, went to a cracking bloke from Crewe who collected old mopeds and motorbikes and had a bang on the Autoshite money Citroen van. Mentioned this place to him, hopefully he'll turn up at some point!

The clear out continues,

C15 gone, Flying Flea boxed and paid for, Tool boxes and tools going (still more available though)

I am about halfway through the Berlingo's job list, then I need an axle for the Ax, outside of that I have lost any drive I had for shite, I just can't play the game like youse on here, so I guess the tools are largely un-needed.

finished the coilovers i was making for my capri today.

Hey, Ruff, don't lose heart completely.  Anyone willing to sort out my car as you did is a shiter from top to bottom.

Accord collected by Tetleysmooth earlier. However, Toyota still here as the breaker did not show yesterday and has not returned my call. So back onto eBay it goes (unless any interest here for £350?). On the plus side it's got enough petrol in it for the week's commute. Another positive is I did 500 miles in it last week and the clutch didn't slip once.

Changed the coolant on the mr2 (all 12.5 litres of it  ) What a pain in the arse of a job that was, took ages to burp all the air out of the system.

My good deed for today: changed the wheel on a Transit that a mate had borrowed to move house.  He picked up a puncture on the last run and the borrowage naturally didn't extend to a jack or wheelbrace, though there was a spare wheel (with a completely slick tyre on it).

The guy he borrowed the van off is a welder, which might be worth knowing sometime.

In other fleet news, the Rover failed to start this morning, not having run for almost a fortnight.  Just about caught a couple of times, but then died.  I may in fact have flooded it: will have another go tomorrow and maybe introduce some EasyStart into the equation.  Definitely need to exercise the cars more often.

Got my orange 2cv up and running today. About a month ago I reseated the heat exchangers using copper grease. I was pleased to see it melt and the annoying blows from the manifold had gone :)

Now just a bit of wiring to the side repeaters and it is ready for mot !

I took the 75 out for a long-ish trip today, just to see how it fares over a distance. It covers the miles easily and quietly but isn't the most responsive when you want to press on a bit, it's almost a case of you have to wind it up and then it shoots off. The 5 speed auto box can hunt a bit too although overall is a nice smooth unit, I probably just need to adjust to it. In terms of comfort the ride is great but I'm not a fan of the seats, I keep adjusting them but they just force me into a slouch giving me lower backache. I often find this with big sumptuous car seats. Back support where I don't want it, and being a short arse I don't need a huge seat to sit in.

On the plus side it felt planted on the motorway in heavy rain and crosswinds, and despite the woeful visibility is easy to park for a big motor. But overall I got home a bit deflated wishing I had taken the 220 instead. For me I think the 75 will be best reserved for wafting around town in, as it's relaxing to drive but ultimately I prefer a good 2 litre beater to keep me engaged on long trips. Maybe it's a modern car thing but I was actually getting a bit bored as the journey was too easy.

So, as you can probably tell it hasn't totally won me over, which pisses me off a bit as I've been waiting ages to own one!

seems i was volunteered to put loft ladder up in my mates house by his mum..

i thought easy... nope when they built the house the loft is level bar a beam that is 4 inch higher thus needing the a platform built either side..

20141027_173431_zpsvwrpcn7u.jpg

then other side..

20141101_135140_zpsozzhxk9s.jpg

then deciphered the instruction on how to put ladder together then affix

and done bar the loft hatch

I've been having a bit of a clear out recently, The spare V6 couple project sold last night on ebay so hopefully that will be going to a new home soon. It made respectable money in the end so Hopefully that can be put towards some of the bits that the straight 6 needs to get it reliable. Fingers crossed the new owner comes to collect it quickly and is pleased.

In straight 6 news I spent some time Saturday afternoon swapping the dizzy cap over for an alternative and rewiring the twin battery setup (modified from two 6v to two 12v) A quick drive round the block revealed that the new cap had fixed the misfire but there is clearly still a power problem as the car died 100 yards from home and did not want to restart! In the end I pushed it home fortunately it was mostly downhill... The dynamo and regulator are chief suspects as both have been messed about with by the previous owner.

I'll sort out a proper project thread for it at some point soon.

Did the rear wheel cylinders on the rover this a.m. No dramas, nothing stuck, seized or rounded off. Spray grease around all the wee joints on the car twice a year FTW. 2 Borg & Beck cylinders for £30 wasn't bad, either.

Fancy a t5 Corsaviour? ???...

Itch scratched soz. I really, really REALLY want a new bike and this potential shitemobile (plus a potentially cheap 206 Roland Garros I've been offered) are probably all that's standing in the way. How much do you want for the T5 though, please? If nothing else I can ask about for you.

I'd let it go for 350 at the lowest to you or any other shiter.really need to start taking it easy in the car now the roads around here are getting covered in all types of shit now.im still after a cheapish 4x4 if you know of any....

I still really want one, but I know if I sell my ever dependable E36 318is I will go and buy a load of bother.

At least you found one that seems to be a good'un for not lots of money.

After having good the new bit if exhaust for the Frontera I finally managed to get it out on today.

Took ages to get all the rubber hangers connected, with the help of someone pulling on it, but eventually it all looked OK. Leaks like a bastard but a lot better than it was. Forgot to take any pictures

While under it found that the cat has a plate badly welded over the all of one side and it leaks water....

i always planned to have a roam around area were aldi was off the slurry road

I was over there last week as a friend lives on that estate, and honestly I wouldn't bother. There's literally one vehicle I saw that I would get my camera out for, an Astramax van. There was a MK2 Granada on the other side of Sturry Road last year, but it was parked on the driveway of a rough looking house and was missing its grille and bumper so I suspect it was one step away from the track anyway.

I did manage to pap some more stuff today though, and have realised I now have enough material for a half decent update. There is decent, old stuff around this area, just nowhere near the quantity as back home in Essex, so you have to search a bit harder for it.

They say Kent is the Garden of England, its high time Essex is known as the scrapyard of England.

As you say, I don't think there is much tat that side of the river. Walk around any SS postcode in essex with one eye shut and there is plenty of tat lurking. I keep thinking I may have found it all......have I f0ck  :-)

Pappa Sloth is thinking of chucking in the 2003 V70 for a newer model. Given that he needs it to:

Tow a caravan

Move a big model railway about

Last 10 years

Have diesel and manual

Budget £12,000

I am likely to recommend a Hyundi Santa Fe if I can't persuade him that keeping the Volvo isn't the best option.

He should get something still in the 5 year warranty so any proper issues can be fixed without too much pain.

Is this a bad move?

Posted

Does he give a chuff about cars over and above the details mentioned above?

If not, and just needs transport, then something with a massive long warranty is perfect. Nothing wrong with a Santa Fe, they just exude an air of "I don't care, I can't see the outside".

Fixed. When do you want to pick it up?

What he actually wants is a Renault Avantime.

Let me know when you'll be wanting to pay for and collect mine

Took the Seat to my mate who's a cracking VW mechanic for a service/MOT/fix a knock/scuttle about underneath it. It's stuff I could do myself but I don't have any motivation or anywhere off road to do any work and for a change I have some money to pay someone else.

He's notoriously disorganised, so I turned up after work at his garage like he said and as usual he said "what the fuck are you doing here now?" Anyway he didn't have his usual yaris courtesy car for me to borrow so I got instructions to drive to his house, park my car outside under the tree, post my key through the back door BUT NOT IF THERE WAS A TT PARKED ON THE DRIVE cos that means his lass was back from work and the dog would be running loose and would eat it. Then I had to walk down the street and get his double backup 297k ex taxi 52 plate passat that he leaves on the road outside his house with the key hidden in it's vicinity, just in case of fuckups like this. I had to climb in through the back door cos it was tight against a wall and the drivers door doesn't work. Inside it stinks like working mens clubs, broken dreams and diesel fumes. The radio only works on Radio 1 and I had to wash my hands and trousers after being in it. Still, it's better than riding a pushbike to work.

Personally I'm happy with this situation, but he treats all his valued customers like this. I want to send my mum down with her beemer but I just don't think she could handle the sheer chaos of it.

I used to use a garage that had a similar approach to paying customers and courtesy cars. Highlights were a Nissan Sunny 2-door (drivers door and boot; passenger side was caved in) and a Mk2 Cavalier with a wooden handled, flathead "key".

I also got reminded to never lock my car when I left it at the garage, as it was costing him too much in broken windows when the locals came looking through gloveboxes.

So, have any of the other parts of this mighty forum managed to set up a monthly meet or that?

Scotoshite seems to be booming:) but would be good to see other likeminded institutions and their patients getting involved

Been discussing with Jon a North Island NZ Shiters outing now that we are nearly into summer
