Ah the usual bmw trifecta 😂

I’d have it for scrap money if it wasn’t completely hanging. (That’s not me saying I want it!)

I’m guessing it’s also got a dodgy temp sensor too!

I’ve said I’ll have it for £350 as that’s what he implied this evening

Yeah wants a temp sensor and I assume an ABS sensor

Let me know when you want to pass it on then, I think even needing a bit of work (unless it's welding) it's a fair price.

I think it’s a cracking price, it’d break for double that!

Back home after a week away up in Aberdeenshire.

The Volvo unsurprisingly dispatched the journey there and back supremely effectively - even if she is a little on the large side on some country lanes!

Does need a wash now after 900 miles of high speed motorway work...this was clean when I left!

I was only saying to Katy yesterday that I miss this one, it was a very good motor.  Do keep me in mind if you get bored. 👍

She's a cracking car.  The question really is what the hell could fill the same shoes, doing everything this car does as well as this one does.

Honestly the only thing which might make me consider changing would be if an otherwise equivalent car turned up that was petrol - purely because that would be ULEZ compliant.  This car being banned from an ever increasing number of city centres in Scotland is a bit of a headache.  Especially as their ULEZ zones are enforced like bus lane infringement etc - it's a £60 fixed penalty if you stray in in a non compliant car.  Nothing like London where you just pay your £12 a day and continue about your business.

I honestly can't think of a better jack of all trades though.  I guess an XC70 of the same era might also be worthy of consideration - the 70 profile tyres and additional suspension travel might address my one real criticism of the car, which is the unnecessarily firm ride.  There is absolutely no bloody reason for a car like this having 45 profile tyres and dampers as firm as they are on this.  You're never going to be setting competitive lap times in it!  Just give us squishy, floaty ride to match the rest of the luxury on offer already!

There really is bugger all on the market now which is half as competent across the board though - especially where load capacity is concerned - the biggest motor Volvo currently offer has something like a third of the boot space.  Oh...and specced up as I'd really want it had a price tag of something like £110K.

Plenty of cars where I can either have four adults in comfort OR that level of practicality, but rarely both at the same time.  Honestly I look at most of those though and have to admit if I'm making that tradeoff anyway I'd really rather save god knows how much money and just have an early/mid 00s Berlingo/Partner.

This (and probably the two adjacent generations) of V70 I reckon provided you can deal with them being Not Small cars really are the only car you ever need.  Few things can do as good a job of being a limousine and a van.  At the same time.

The novelty of the warbly five cylinder noises hasn't even begun to wear off yet either.

We had our East Coast Retros car meet tonight and amongst the 250+ cars there we had this very rare rotory engined Citroen GS Birotor turn up and I thought it would be appreciated on here!

Very nice! I did wonder if it was on when I saw an Escort Cosworth then a Volvo 440 head down the A140.

I'm guessing you still have one evening meet then the Saturday one in October to come?

I've still got my later Xc70, I think I prefer the P2 on balance.

I have now eaten more cooked breakfasts and takeaways in a row than I ever have, except perhaps that time I was very depressed and tried to fix it with pizza and kebabs.

Hopefully I won't put on too much weight from this week, it probably helps that I've been walking to and from the middle of town from bispham because despite being every 10 minutes the trams seem to always be rammed full.

This is the first holiday I've been on since my bipolar developed, I'm not entirely sure that Blackpool in August was the right choice there but oh well. I'm mostly having fun, interspersed with being massively overwhelmed. A highlight was getting stuck at the top of the tower because every time I tried to get in the lift my brain noped out about how many people there were (on the way up there was only a few of us who'd skipped the stupid 4D cinema) but the attendant very kindly sneaked us onto a lift from the unloading side.

The trip is as much about seeing how I've changed as it is about how Blackpool has. We've gone off in very different directions, I reckon.

Two more full days, then back home on Saturday. We don't have any particular plans for today and tomorrow, other than returning to the cat cafe this morning.

I need to find something to buy the demon girl, she told me "not to waste my money on her" but I think if I find something thunderously shit it'll make her laugh enough to be ok to break that rule.

Friday ones will be good as I only work a 4-day week now, and I think the rest of the family might be able to come along as they can occasionally slope off a bit early too.

Latest Carina E travel news.......

They got down to Nice for a couple of nights after we headed for home on Saturday, then they drove back up through The Alps and are now near Troyes, headed for Belgium tonight before finally getting home sometime tomorrow.

I did just over 2,000 miles in the RX so I reckon it'll be closer to 3,000 for them over their 4-week trip. That's about half of what I managed in the last two years with it!

Think I'll be transferring ownership to them at the end of the month, until they get a reliable, not rusty (?!) Land Cruiser then Miss SL or her BF will be needing it for work. For what was a somewhat impromptu purchase a couple of years ago it's turned out very well.

P.S. Did see a Dutch-registered Carina E heading back to NL when we were driving back up through France at the weekend, but no French-registered ones at all this year.

Bugger.

Wipers have never auto-parked for as long as I've owned it, due to the NLA intermittent wipe relay being dead. The tester manual doesn't say they HAVE to automatically park, just that they shouldn't park in the way. Which they don't if you switch them off at the bottom of their sweep...

I may mention it, but also not keen on rocking the boat at the only MOT station a convenient walk away...

Headlight aim been touched since it last passed so who knows what's going on there.

Horn not unexpected as it is very unreliable.

Fair dos on the ball joint and tyre. Will need to have a nosey.

I'd been hoping to get there last night but I don't have a suitable roadworthy car at the moment (Carina E is still misfiring, Innocenti has neither MOT nor brakes, Renault still has a leaky fuel tank, and I wouldn't trust the Volvo on a 160-mile round trip even if I could afford the fuel bill).

I should be able to make the 29th though - Innocenti should have been re-MOT'd by then, and I'm hoping I will have sorted the Toyota's misbehaviour too.

Really my only bugbear with that generation of V70 is the appalling turning circle - especially since Volvos used to be renowned for turning on a sixpence, and the first gen V70s were still decent in that respect so it's not to do with being FWD or having a transverse 5-pot.  Other than that they are a brilliant all-rounder.

That I do concede - this does have the turning circle of the QE2.

Isn't it to do with all of that, plus having a five speed (later six?) automatic available? It took up more space than the four speed in the 850/V70, so that's the packaging constraint that caused the poor turning circle.

That's what I was told years ago

The son-in-law's ex- @CaptainBoom Saab 9-3 has disgraced itself on its MoT and needs structural welding. Something I can't do. Might be bridge time unless someone wants a project.

So I'm on the lookout for something cheapish with a decent amount of test for him. He only does about 2000 miles a year.

What year is it? If its pre 2003 old generation then bin it, they're rot boxes. If its a newer one, the only place they really go is the outriggers, or sometimes the front strut towers and are usually saveable.

Heads-up, this will be coming up for sale soon.

I need to fix the intermittently not working roof then its good to go. 10 months MOT, belt done last year and oil service up-to-date.  Nae issues apart from non-cold A/C.

I might put it up for sale to the proletariat for £2k but £1200  shiters' price to save my life being ruined by that .

Watch this space 👍

it's 1999 so OG model. I've not had a look myself yet at how bad it is. Shame as aside from som lack appeal on the roof it's pretty tidy.

Returning to Post office Vans, I saw a transporter full of 25 plate signwritten Pug vans approaching our local sorting office yesterday. I wonder how many were being dropped off here.

Well it turns out the Scottish Audi Clan of Facebook are incredibly helpful! I had about 5 offers to scan the codes on the A4, hopefully whoever I go to isn't going to shoot me or something.

Then I can hopefully either fiddle with/clean/replace the duff sensor!

Progress update on the 75 from Gingernutzz,  knee deep in filler on the NSR quarter. It now identifies as a Renault (a few members will know what this means 🤣)

Not too bad though as you can see, all very localised.

I've been told we are finally getting some electric Pugs. Don't know how many mind. But they're not fitting any chargers, we are going to use the chargers in Lidl car park over the road. It will be somebody's job to come in at 5am and move them over to Lidl before any general public come along (there are only two chargers).
