My Landcruiser has a perspex rear light - I made although it is just flat. Good luck with it. Worth a go to get back on the road. 👍🇺🇲

Yesterday my area experienced the worst hail storm in about 2 decades. Seeing icy golf balls fall from the sky is quite something!

I stashed a few in the freezer. This is what they do to vehicles:

The Ranger's slightly dented up now, as is husband's RAV4. The interior stayed bone dry however, so that's a win I guess. We were lucky. The poor girl who owns the Accord was between insurance policies, hopefully she can still make a claim. I helped clean the glass out but I think the car's destined for the crusher.

It’s unreal isn’t it, we had it at my mothers house in Spain 11 years ago

destroyed every piece of plastic garden furniture, 200 roof tiles, wrote their Mondeo estate off and loads of other damage, several people working in the fields were badly injured too as they couldn’t find any cover.

Went to Arminghall show/autojumble this morning in the LS400 - good turnout and bought a decent amount of useless stuff. Would have been good to take the Laurel, but although the recored radiator has been fitted they're still awaiting suitable heater hoses.

Anyway, I saw this Accord Aerodeck for sale which is giving me impure thoughts......

Always rather liked this model, and it's a 2-litre manual which is nice and straightforward but still has a decent toy count.

Only way I could make it work is if I sell the Carina E, which I hadn't planned on doing as it's just so darn useful and does its job incredibly well:

As here with a 2.2m worktop inside. But then the Aerodeck would do that too. Hmmm........

So the Vectra appears to be lightly fighting me at the moment. Yesterday, I found that the spoiler was starting to come off:

20250516_194411.jpg.f6fbe6a817bf68fd64b9ac071479a493.jpg

20250516_194430.jpg.0e42b9438ed04f82f0e40a0e8136dd35.jpg

However, some of you may remember that I bought a correctly-coloured tailgate complete with spoiler and tinted glass for £next-to-nowt. It's currently in my lock-up and I'll need to bring fitting it on forward:

20241019_161855.jpg.0a1dfe69728dd6b7c8e43cf73ee86c87.jpg

I can tiger-seal the spoiler, but it has some bad rust under it so ideally it needs to be replaced so I can fully remove the spoiler and at least work on the tailgate to get it in better condition and act as a spare.

A few days ago, I decided to tighten the bolt on the check-strap that are located on the inside of the recess of the door, the check strap would 'click' everytime the door was opened. So tightening it made it quieter, however, the noise started to come back a tad. So I tried to tighten it up again and ended shearing the bolt:

20250517_071108.jpg.ff0a09238ecdd3bebf16cf6cd72f7616.jpg

Not a biggie (hopefully) its just a case of finding the correct bolt size and nut and getting them back in and tightening up.

In regards to the coolant leak, I have booked it in, as well as investigating the oil leak to determine exactly where it's coming from.

That Accord Estate looks great indeed, just one of those "only car you'd ever need" if you can keep the rust at bay. How much were they asking? I can't remember seeing another one of this generation coming up for sale, only sedans.

£1600, which seemed like decent value to me.

Rust-resistance and load carrying ability is probably a little better with the Carina E, but otherwise I imagine the Accord would have a much smoother, more engineered feel to it.

2.0i spec only seems to have been able for the first couple of years, then most models went over to the 2.2.

I'm reliably informed it's a Wolseley WD, from the 1940s.

Gatecrashed an Italian meet at The MotoristTM in the Oxford today (Bona fide Paninifarina don't you know) had a good time, cool cars and the sun came out to play. Jumbo cord trousers was not the best idea, but it was bloody freezing when we set off.

On our way home we popped by the scrap yards just down the road, I'll add pics in the scrap yard thread.

Spotted a Countach on the way in to the industrial estate. We thought it was a photoshoot for some posh mag. So we viewed from a distance.

Turns out the chap was meeting some other cars there and couldn't get it to run again. So we had a natter and offered my crap tools and help.

Pics.

Both where Mirage replicas really well done, nice chaps too.

Anyway cool car things happened.🙂

Yes I know Paninifarina isn't the correct spelling.

On youtube I found a guy who has just bought a royale coupe that needs much welding. He has already got the cutting disc out - no surprise that these cars dissolved so quickly.

Got the clay bar out and the poorboys black hole polish. It has come up really nice but if you were picky the front bumper could do with some paint - I plan to get rid of the chrome grills in future and the bumper will need to come off to swap them.

This poor bastard had done the Eryri Ultra yesterday (164km) and thought he had enough range to get to the charger in Bangor. Ground to a halt 100m short and couldn't be pushed so had to be towed on dollies.

BBC News:

The tension between the clever tech companies (wanting everything) , confused government (wanting tax revenue, jobs, kudos and to remain in power) and sceptical us (the great unwashed) continues to remain a source of concern and amusement - and is like something from the TV drama 'The Thick of It'.

Here this morning the BBC has been drinking the tech kool-aid again with a lovely emotive headline on self drive vehicles.

Only 'till you look down the puff do you see that the arrival of self-drive remains some way off - as there is an awful lot of legal and practical framework to be resolved - so any date is pure speculation.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c8jg80j771zo

I love the sunny optimism 😂

This government statement is pure ' Thick of It' blarney:

"The government says self-driving vehicles have the potential "to build an industry worth £42bn and provide 38,000 jobs by 2035."

'App Britain' 😂

[Ed update - this is on the day Government has had a massive data breach]

Happy Monday everyone.
