Whilst lining up the repair panel for the wing on the 18 today, I noticed the wing wasn't attached very well...

Had a poke at the area beside the door hinge which revealed a huge hole, and a panel constructed entirely from rubberised undearseal.

So I removed the wing which was a nightmare, cut out all the crap and welded in some new metal.

All that's left to do is drill holes for the wing to bolt to.

Kind of annoying that I've made no progress (still need to repair the wing and the underseal panel) but good that it won't need looking at again for a long time.

March 28th 1976. Happy Birthday M'lud.

March 29th 1983 for me. 31 years old yesterday :(

It's all downhill from here I'm told.

I've just realised I'm older than 31 too. I'll get my carer to say 'bollocks' later.

Downhill is easier than uphill, I say. No need to pedal.

I'm a bit frustrated at the moment, as I've done something to my left foot, which means it hurts quite often, especially when operating the monumentally heavy clutch in the Volkswagen LT minibus that I sometimes have to drive. Went to the doc last week and she's concerned there might be a hairline fracture somewhere. X-Ray on Wednesday. Driving the BX is also fairly uncomfortable, as it has a heavy clutch - I can manage the other two, but if I do have a fracture, it's likely my foot will be strapped up. Trust this to happen while I don't own an automatic.

Also on Wednesday, my mate is cracking on with some essential pre-MOT welding on the 2CV.

Good news! I now know why the Volvo leaks.

Bad news! The windscreen isn't technically attached to the car on the nearside. Looks like its been coming in between the seal and running across to the driver's side before collecting in the footwell. Pretty impressive route considering.

Cheers Brookjim. Since the screen is starting to delaminate in the corners and I have glass cover anyway it may crack unexpectedly before too long...

Last thing stopping the departure of my old 760 Turbo was the transfer of the registration plate... that is now complete, with the former E33 XGD now known as E952 HFG. Final stripdown this week then it's off over the rainbow bridge unless someone really, really wants it before I remove the bits I can be arsed to remove.

Actually gonna be quite sorry to see it go, I genuinely feel sorry for the poor sod.

Expect a grump when I go to retax the R-reg 940 now, as the two V5s (for the 940 as E33 XGD and the 760 as E952 HFG) have arrived with the same document reference number but different serial numbers.

Due to british gas being a bunch of wankers, the blue cortina is going up for sale.

Similar cars are going For £1500-£2000, but it needs a bit of tlc so i'll stick it on at the lower end of that.

Kinda pisses me off as i won't get another as good/that spec for the money, i'm trying to look on the bright side.

When i get straight financially i'll have the room to get another car, maybe something different like an allegro or a viva.

Is this an offer for rml's windscreen, or dollywobbler's busted foot? :D

EML came on on mum's Polo today, sadly it was just the brake lights acting funny and a quick check of the (stupidly placed) fusebox and attaching a code reader sorted it.

I was hoping for something more serious so we could get shot of it sooner...

It sure is; want it? Or the seats?

Discovered this evening that TV2 has sprung a fairly major oil leak underneath. Not yet sure if it's engine or transmission oil, but it's not good news either way, especially with the car's MOT expiring on April 19th. Talk about gratitude!

Energy companies have a lot to answer for.

Got the van back on the road this weekend. I was gonna replace the clutch but I got impatient (and I'm tight) so I took a chance, put the gearbox back on (by lifting it off my chest and shitting myself basically). Got everything bolted back together, sat in the drivers seat to start it and the clutch felt wrong. Then I remembered I'd left the release bearing sat on the fucking rocker cover. I was pretty pissed off but I managed to channel my rage into speed and ended up being able to remove the box, fit the release bearing and have the thing back on and the engine running in 37 minutes.

The mystery 5 speed box I fitted seems OK but I've not had chance to run it far, so I dunno if it has any problems when it gets warm. The clutch is slipping slightly when I hammer it too, but it's marginal at best as it was designed for under half as much power as the van has.  glazed it up pretty bad driving the van a few miles in 3rd gear so I'm hoping I'll wear the glaze off and it'll be OK. I was gonna get it skimmed but the machine place wouldn't touch the cover and wanted way too much to even do the flywheel.

I'm all aches and pains tonight, found both inner drive shaft boots split on the Outback (checked Outback forum its expected from 80k on), so i've had 'em both out today and replaced the boots.

Nothing broke but i'd have been buggered if i hadn't found me 3 leg puller, OS spline was rock solid in the hub, wondered if the puller was gunna break at one point.

Bloody silly, both inner boots are less than 4" from the twin front Cats, hence the problem, all bolts now coppaslipped, i have a feeling this will be an annual hob so want it to be easy, couldn't get Subaru parts quick enough but if the aftermarket tat fails too quick i'll get the kosher bits ordered up.

Reminded me yet again just how nice proper Japanese made cars are to work on, designed to be fixed not just assembled like too many modern European chod.

There will be a Citroen XM 2.1TD automatic up for sale in about a months time which can make its way to Shitefest... hint hint

Gave my Doblo a clean up today. I have never actually washed this vehicle in all the time I've owned it!!!!

Pretty shameful really as it comes up OK. I washed it, clayed it, cleaned all the tar splats off with thinners and mopped it with some cheap car wax ('Triplewax' or some such old shit) Could really do with its wheels painted but I'm not sure I can be bothered. I'm gonna put it up for sale when i find the sodding V5. I'm gonna ask for £900 and expect £800. Its an 03 plate with a new cam belt, fresh ticket and about 110k on the clock. What do we reckon, does that sound too hopeful?

was heading back to manc from holyhead this afternoon

as crossed border in deeside into england there was a 4x4 parked just under the bridge where the border is and people milling about (on the opposite side to me) - not the place to be unless feds or council or works etc

then another car parked the other side and people not just stood out broke down

why ?

cos there was a car in the bridge parapet facing the way hed just come pointing up the bridge - looking like hed vaulted the barrier (intact)

its dry not mad busy

htf do you do that :(

the further east i go the more cop cars and ambulances pile the other way (are there none local in flint or shotton or qferry??)

Today I turned down a big job promotion and a pay rise, including paid for accomodation and possibly a company car or mileage allowance.

Im glad I did, I feel as though I am not competent enough for the job role of assistant manager in the largest pub in the company.

Time will tell if it was a good decision or not.

Im happy doing what I do, is that reason enough to carry on doing it??
