Old gal's still got it.

This was about 3/4 throttle, it could have gone a bit quicker but it puts out a rather embarrassing cloud of clag when properly floored.  Plus we still have a lot of miles to do and I don't want to kill it.

Mrs' 5 week old car wiped out by a stupid old cunt completely on the wrong side of the road. Combined impact speed 100mph. She has a fair few injuries, but thankfully nothing major. Car is a total loss and I'm in the middle of dealing with the aftermath 😡

Glad she’s not more seriously injured.

Kier has banned fun. Come home immediately - and if you have an 'off' you may bankrupt the NHS and pensioners will have no heating...

Troops are being dispatched to bring all UK nationals home.

Good Luck. Oh that looks fun.

I just grunted and moaned and changed it on the drive myself.

I didn’t fancy it at home in case it snapped and I got stuck but seeing as it snapped and I got stuck I just did it.

Needed some swan neck spanners and some new cutting discs.

It’s still a get me there bodge as I couldn’t get a proper high tensile steel bolt so it’s got one that will do for the half mile drive and they can have it off and fix it proper.

Good few hours work there as one side was having one of it with heat, spray or owt so had to be cut out.

Having an estate car readily available has come into its own today. I'd embarrassingly had some car parts stored in next doors shed because mother_Sterling didn't like them languishing in the loft. So my Mum's next door neighbour offered me some short term storage, for a few months, that was about 3 years ago....

At some point, the shed started falling down at the back and started leaking water, so after some to-ing and fro-ing, a holiday then getting ill, I decided to finally get the stuff out. I really owe Jim big time for this, but he's more worried about his house situation as sadly his house was sold because his son couldn't keep up the mortgage payments.

Anyway, there wasn't a huge amount to move but enough to almost fill the back of the Vectra. (Forgot to take a pic of it when it was full, schrodinger car boot, half empty or half full whichever way you look at it)

Jag is off for MoT in the next few weeks. Both cars need some anti-corrosion sprayed underneath sooner rather than later.

That's annoying but it does show the importance of looking after the underneath of the car as well as the top and mechanicals.

I hate to say this but I'm sure when it happened you must have uttered a something a bit stronger than your username.

Well done man, here's to an MOT pass 🤞

Cheers, I don’t really like such hardcore spannering on the drive but as the kids were at school I had a free run to bang and swear and scream and run off to the shop a few times to get different bits without worrying about an errant young’un finding their way into mischief.

can anyone that buys an old audi off here (or anywhere)

not take any notice of holes in the doors and shit  and check for potential shit falling off and putting you on motorway cops (or worse) right @beko1987

sill or crossmember wont fall off - anything not made by germans can and will fall off/decide to be ferrous

I think mine was down to loose wheel bolts (by the previous owner). Never had a Frenchie snap anything important (yet 🤞🤞

It's @Lord Sterling who had a reliable German motor do similar once iirc

I'm by no means a BMW fanboi @MAF260, but that looks like it's done a pretty good job of protecting her.

Glad it's not worse 👍

Thanks all. The car did exactly what it was designed to do in these circumstances and she was able to get out alive and without serious injuries. All of the airbags deployed, including the curtain bags on both sides. I've been to the salvage yard where the car is stored and it looks even worse the second time of looking. The Mrs has major whiplash, cuts and abrasions to her face and body and is covered in some angry looking bruises all over - I'll consider this a huge result compared to the alternatives. It's times like now you get to find out how good your insurance policy and insurer is. Admiral cover this car and so far have been absolutely outstanding (helped by the old duffer having no choice but to admit full liability). They told me about a clause in her policy which provides a brand new replacement like-for-like car provided a number of strict criteria are met. We found out yesterday that we are highly likely to qualify, so are now waiting with baited breath to have it confirmed in writing.

Airbags did their job

Scene of the crash. Point of impact is the pool of coolant in the forground - the Jag was completely on her side of the road and pushed her car back about 50-60ft onto the grass verge after the initial impact:

Don't really think a like is an apt response, but in absence of a suitable alternative....

Looks nasty. Did he just lose concentration, or medical episode? Or just someone else who shouldn't have a licence, or be driving something they can't handle?

@yes oui si was also hit recently by an elderly person and this really confirms what I believe that the elderly should undergo more frequent tests.

But happy in both cases that no lives were lost and no life changing injuries happened.

His claims include not remembering anything; he didn't see her (bright blue with LED lights) car and thought he'd hit the grass bank and that a muntjac deer ran out in front of him. I mentioned to the Police that it was odd he failed to remember or see anything, but was able to identify the breed of mostly nocturnal deer that allegedly ran out in front of him. It is, of course, total bollocks - he rounded a right hand bend completely on the wrong side of the road, it wasn't a brief moment of error. The Police have told me that there isn't enough evidence and so are not intending to prosecute him. You couldn't make this up.
