Finally got to fix the dent in the Merc, now one week until it goes to the paint shop

(And I'll fix the badge placement that has been pissing me off ever since I bought it)

Rear axle shackle snapped on the freighter so I ran a spare up to the crew and waited for the big red taxi

My colleague is staying in a fashionable AirBnB atm and has found a stash of porn*

Sadly, the stylus is shagged on the turntable - otherwise he’d be cueing it up and FaceTiming me.

If @mat_the_cathasn’t got this - along with the Ford Sierra Dealership VHS - for guests, I’ll be very disappoint.

Same colour and engine as my folks second one.  Was a decent little car, just a bit heavy on fuel.  Went well though and handled better than it looked like it should.  We liked it and would happily have had another one - only reason we switched to Peugeot was because the local Ford dealer stopped doing Motability.

Things I particularly remember include a really nice gearchange and that the engine seeming to thrive on revs - which is probably half the reason the economy never seemed great when I drove it!  Definitely quieter inside than the Pug that replaced it.

Always felt these were somewhat underrated cars really...It's basically a Fiesta they designed to have more room inside...and the Fiesta of this generation was pretty well liked.

Missus wanted to see if she could resurrect her old focus.. upon inspection its not worth it due to rot, needing at least 1 door, 2 tyres and a bloody good service and clean... reclamet is being contacted I believe.

They all meld together, shirley?

Actually, a guy who works for me has one and it's been cheap, reliable transport. I suspect boring, though.

Wheels returned for the CRX tonight, and the V5 is being done in the morning when the DVLA website reopens (sigh).

Tuesday at 7am I set off from rural Stirlingshire en route to Surrey and immediately had wipers, indicators, horn and hazards fail. Not ideal especially in Scotland. Fuses all fine so I diagnosed SAM module failure - always most likely suspect for multiple gremlins in Mercs of this era . RAC agreed and got me towed as far as Abington Services where I had a fun almost 8 hour wait before RAC and the very nice folk at G-Sport Hawick kindly organised a mighty Dacia for me to continue the journey. Merc delivered yesterday morning  with the delivery dude trailering off the Dacia all the way back to the borders. I've already pIcked up & fitted a new used £20 ebay SAM module and normal car functions instantly restored, no dealer coding bollox necessary with this old barge. MOT on Friday a good excuse for a few days rustproofing/bodywork, new rear tyres, & general TLC.

Fitters changes the shackle yesterday afternoon and the load ejected.

Same driver broke it again today. This time a front parabolic spring 😤.

Might have do redo his driving assessment

I've never heard it called that before - is it a Sussex thing?  Glad he was able to eject his load though.

While I'm sorting pics from my phone, have some taken on recent trip to the Emerald Isle:

Views of Clew Bay taken from (not very far up) Crogh Patrick, Ireland's Holy Mountain. It's764m (2,507ft) tall and yes, I have walked to the top (a distance of 7km where, incredibly, there is a church built in 1905.

I didn't realise, but the nearby Achill Island (which has an intersting history of its own) also boasts this:

Guinness was still good though.

Tinkering on the aggro tonight.

i found why the brakes were a bit wooden feeling and shit.  Seems the pads have worn and are touching each other at the top.  My concern is why has this happend. Somethings not right.

That's less than ideal, did they change the size of the discs over the Allegro's production run?

Reminds me of fitting the brake discs that came in the boot of my 405 and not noticing that they were unventilated while the originals were ventilated.  That was an exciting test run!

Disc diameter looks too small.

Yes I thought the same, but it looks like there is not much room between caliper and disc so unlikely. Unless pads are wrong or defective.

Surely the wrong pads?    Can't recall the details now, but there are pads of that type that use the same backing plate but smaller area of friction material.

Agreed.  The pads pictured have the correct clips., pins etc, but I would try a new set (which are available) and see if they line up correctly with disc.

All Allegro discs are the same (and are also the same as the Maxi).  New ones are pretty much unobtanium now.  Agree with above that whilst initial thought was disc too small, clearance on caliper looks about right.

Top tip for Mercedes 190 owners on the forum. Some very cheap parts on offer at Euro Car Parts currently.

Pagid rear discs £12 a pair

Pagid front pads £6

Diesel fuel and air filters less than £2 each.

Also some cheap suspension & steering parts.

May be worth a look.

I've been at a very small family festival in mid Wales, and the automotive shite had a much stronger representation than out in the wild.

Those 535's appear to have a bigger gap from the top of the lining to the locating pinhole than on yours. I reckon you'll find the new pads will solve your problem.

Just got back from the wirral after collectioning @DavidBs MR2.

I have to say I've driven a lot and owned a lot of these types of cars now, I've had a few Mk1 and mk2 mx5s and this is definatley more poised (from what I remember)

The gearbox is so nice, handling is razor sharp and the engine is peppy. As with every 21 year old toyota all the electrics work and it just needs the air con sorting. It's been gassed but David said the fans aren't kicking in so maybe a fuse

Bruce the bull dog enjoyed the drive home with the roof down

The right hand hole is not quite in the right place, but apart from that the bottom one looks perfectly normal.
