What happens when the daily or that toy breaks? Need spares of both, so that brings up to four cars ... then with the wife car it's then five. Which is where I am at now!

And it's that kind of thinking that ends you up with 5 cars. ?

I can't really speak too much we have 4 including my wifes car.

It was about 2 weeks ago, and he's told the insurance company to go fuck themselves.

Told them he'll see them in court.

They told him it would go down as an uninsured driver because of the time delay in them dealing with foreign insurers.

Pretty sure 5 car ownership is my natural limit. Anymore and it starts stretching resources (time and everything else) to keep them all on the road. Or some of them get neglected and pushed to the back of storage. Well maybe one more classic could fit into the fleet as they're less cost to run...

Not sure how you can run such a large fleet and still have time to get them all sorted + organised while staying sane! You must have to be pretty much a full time transport manager along with your regular work.

My advice is that if you want to carry on with anything like that number of cars DO NOT HAVE KIDS!

Not so very long ago the above justifications for too many cars would have soundee like madness to me.

I currently have six cars.  Four *ohfives and the leaf and legacy.

If autoshite was a car club where we could all rent chod from each other, I'm sure we'd all be a damn sight better off.

Anyway, proof I'm in glorious East Sussex

We had 4 cars in the household fairly recently, 3 mine and 1 the wifes. I found having to keep them all running very stressful, buying cars is great fun but once it's sitting outside along with the others reality bites. tax insurance MOT servicing etc etc. So I sold a couple and am now down to 1 car each which is perfect, but I still sit on the for sale section every day on here looking at buying the next piece of old shite. I don't know why I do it to myself

Is that kids to keep the cars running!

I've had occasions when a spare car and space to keep said both cars would have been handy

I could have saved the 406 if I'd been able to have a second car as well, and fixed it over a month or so.

2nd insurance would be a killer for me though, I pay £70 (should be £48odd though) a month just for the zx! Plus tax but that's not too bad for the stuff I buy...

That's insane.

Why is it so much?

I've got 5 cars on a classic policy for £330. Why is that so much? Do you live in Syria?

London and the Home Counties is just expensive.

Because I fucked up trying to make it cheaper.

Was only £43 (I have 2 sp30s to my name)

Then I cancelled the aa and added breakdown cover, went to £54

Went down to 3rd party, back to £44

Smashed windscreen, realised I'd lost glass cover, had to up the cover back to fully comp... £70

Ive paid a month of that, I need to knock that back down to 3rd party... To £56ish

Lesson learnt, just stay fucking fully comp and don't fuck with the policy mid term

Wow. Talk about a domino effect....

A friend of mine bought a 2008 Mazda 3 1.6 Diesel a year or so ago for about £1600. Since then he has had nothing but problems with it.

He lost power in it recently. Thinking it was the DPF, it was removed and ramapped. However, since then it has never really had much power. The injectors were looked at and he even dropped in some injector cleaner. It helped a bit but the Mazda soon became as sluggish as before. He complained and complained. I advised him to get a diagnostics reading. He did and it was found that the turbo had gone. He bought another turbo (apparently fits the Citroen aswell so a Peugeot engine then) fitted that on, worked for a bit then has recently blown, black smoke started coming out as a pipe had been unblocked but had blown the new (second-hand) turbo.

Mate has had enough of the car and I think wants to sell. I think he needs to join the £200 car club.

£70pcm for fully comp?! Bugger me.

MGB+Sprint (3k p/a combined) = £193 classic

Boxster (12k p/a and 9yrs NCB) = £300

Laguna (8k p/a and 1yrs NCB) = £340

A4 (13k p/a and 9yrs NCB) = £400 (I guess most expensive because four rings on the front)

So just under £103 pcm to insure 5 cars fully comp. Or £87pcm to insure 3 moderns.

I have 2 claims in last 5yrs in my name (windscreen & non fault) and Mrs SiC has one (non fault). It helps that I buy them all up front but even if I didn't, individual policies are way cheaper than your paying. We are similar ages too and we both live in the South.

Why on earth is yours so different?

I've been watching a 305 van on ebay. It's up to £560 with an hour or so

to go. Thing is I looked at the mot story and it seems it's never had one.

Howz that work ?

I think the correct balance is 1 daily and 1 toy. This is something I've never actually managed to maintain but it does get an expensive habit.

I'm told by my motorcycling friend that there's a equation

X = N+1

Where

X = The ideal number of bikes to own

And

N= The number you currently own.

Wife has just phoned me in a bad frame of mind.  She's bored. She can't (apparently) get the car out due to road worx.

I struggle with knowing what to say.

It hasn't had one since the records were digitised.

It also doesn't have a floor.
