That's what proper cars do, they don't have to be built with no suspension to GLF.

WLF :D I like that!

I woke up in Scotland, hammered it across the North York Dales, got far too airborne, hammered it home. 640 miles since Friday, 320 miles since breakfast.

2CV is running beautifully.

How's the running in going?

My V6 thema was running lumpy last weekend when I went out in it. Today I removed distributor cap and it was full of moisture, I cleaned it out went for a blast and it still wasn't right, I found King lead arching out, cleaned connection all sorted.

I'm not sure how you're meant to know, but I took it easy going up, and a little less easy coming back (once briefly hit 72mph, cruised at 66-68 sat nav confirmed mph). Runs beautifully.

Swapped out the starter motor on my mates transit connect this morning which was pleasingly simple. On the way back a 330d decided I would be too slow away from the light and that the lane for turning right would be best to go straight on. The old v70 tdi picked up its party frock and fucked right off and then I backed off to make his life difficult when he then tried to rejoin the right lane. Childish but fun.

That’s how.

I had a new engine ( nouveau echange) when I was going 100 miles a day commuting on the a55. 50 mph max for a couple of days, then 55, then 60 etc then variable without maxing it. Quietest and smoothest engine my specialist ever heard.

Unfortunately, lots of people seem to have issues with this upgrade. There was a Dyane spewing oil out, I've heard of seizures and others have had trouble getting them to run correctly. Perhaps they should have just lashed their engines together in a filthy garage. Will be interesting to see how it goes for longevity.

I've been on AS for 3 years now, still a newbie to some I'm sure. And well, nothing is as good as it used to be, not even nostalgia eh? But, some thoughts on things that have got better IMHO in the last 3 years in glass half full mode:

- For better or worse the moderns section has been a good addition and that content is neatly in the one area.

- the open section has gone from being mostly* rants to some amazingly useful content from DIY to depression. Amazing how much experience and knowledge people have here. Best Pub I know.

- the site is always up 24 hours a day and is on a secure funding footing.

- I think there are more members from the South East now, which is good for me personally because there didn't seem so many 3 years ago.

- Also, I think there are more younger members contributing now with enthusiasm to balance the jaded resignation of many of us over 35!

And yes, maybe the cars are getting newer - but then SiC is in deep with BL rammell and Barrett is getting a 1920s car fixed up - so we have almost a century of climate improvement here to celebrate.

And there are idiots like me prepared to buy cars within 12 minutes of them being advertised.  What more could you ask for?

Just changed the Corolla's drive belts. I think ideally it was due to be done about 3 years ago

Original Toyota part as well.

In other news I have an interview on Wednesday for the supervisor's position at work.

Oh, that might even be the right stuff for my Jaaaaaaaaaaaaag I know it uses some form of excessively running fully synth.

I avoid Castrol as it seems to produce more mayo on the vauxhall V6 710 cap which other brands (like GM and Asda ) don't

CX might be ready by the end of the month, according to the gearbox workshop.

Final bill will be interesting reading.

Just also finished a few other jobs on the Corolla, a number of dashboard and fascia illumination bulbs had died, so as I had a handful of capless 2w bulbs in the ashtray of the car, thought I'd fix them as well. Another job on this car that wasn't a ballache. Replaced rear wiper and topped up the squirty bottle as well.

I'm actually thinking about getting myself one of these. It's easy to work on, costs peanuts to run & maintain, indestructable and dirt cheap to insure. His 'n' hers matching shite.

Cheers for that. It was a surprising easy job to swap once I'd worked out which of the many bolts on the PAS pump is the pivot bolt (HBOL doesn't tell you). 2 belts as well, but tonnes of access for even my huge paws.

If I get the boss type role the council probably won't know what hit it.

Cheers. I've always liked their classic Q 20w50 in old motors so assumed the new stuff was good too.

car went for a ride on the ramp today

found oil leak at back of engine , crankshaft pulley ( 1.6 zetec )  , explains the sudden consumption of oil last year from  zip per 1000 miles to a top up every week or so

flexi is parted , hence the funny whining , hissing and vibrating etc which comes and go's

and the flash on the camera brings up the rust well .........

Does anyone have contact with MrDuke? He put a deposit down on my 416 before Christmas but delayed collection, haven't heard from him since the 27th and he's been offline since the 3rd. I'm starting to get seriously pestered to get rid of the Rover so need to know if he still wants to buy it.

I was in That London today on personal business, but I had time to do a little bit of tourism as well.  Did you know they now have gender-neutral pedestrian crossing lights at Trafalgar Square?  I can't really see the point, given that the usual standing / walking figure is non-gender-specific anyway, but then I'm probably not "woke".

Also, there were Brexit demonstrations outside the Houses of Parliament - the amusing thing was that there were demonstrators on both sides of the debate who had been corralled into such a tiny space by the police that they were literally stood next to each other, and most of the time seemed to be spent hurling insults at each other rather than making any positive arguments for their respective cases.

Nearby Churchill War Rooms might be worth a look. I keep meaning to go there but never get round to it even though I lived in London for a year. Also comforting to see Jaaaaaags parked at Downing Street. Should be supercharged though.
