Been agonising over these two the past couple of days, haven't been able to shift the boring lancer, and taxing and insuring 3 motors is just a ballache. Logically, I should keep the reliable modern and keep one "classic" but can't bring myself to put either of them for sale, they are both brilliant cars that I love getting into every time. Suppose I could just SORN one of them, but then what use is having a motor I can't drive. Current thought is to flip a coin, SORN one of the older ones, cover it up on the drive and take it off the insurance,  & use the Lancer to get me through the shite weather and flog it for peanuts in the spring. Could really do with a lockup or a bigger driveway :D

That dilemma sounds familiar. I decided to limit myself to two cars...in just over a week I'll have four again but only two will be insured. One is being dumped at my other halfs parents house, and the other round the back here in the communal car park. It's tempting to list them all for sale and see which one gets a bite first, but I can guarantee it'll be the one I don't want to sell.

I never factor in tax and fuel until I pay for it, then realise running more than two cars gets very expensive, very quickly, without repairs.

£60 a month to tax the 3, and £124 to insure them, and that's before I put any fuel in them. Fuck I might as well pcp a brand new, £20 tax a year 5000mpg blandwagon. Why do we do it :D

Can we all have some more details about the P5? you may get knocked over by the stampede of trailers and A frames heading your way.....

Umm.. OK..1963 3-litre automatic, assorted shades of black. Rescued from the oval about six years ago. Previous owner had in turn rescued it but had had to use some V8 panels to make it halfway presentable (both front wings and a door each side so the side trim is different.) Bit of grot at the trailing edge of the sills, couple of crispy door bottoms but not a rotbox. Did run nicely, smooth and sweet sounding engine, gearbox a biy jerky on the change but a fluid change would most likely improve it. Interior is its least pleasant aspect but it's relatively unusual in having a bench front seat. I'm very reluctant to do this, I've loved P5s since I was about seven and a black six cylinder saloon with its original reg was exactly what I wanted but I need to make some space and I haven't laid a finger on it for a couple of years.post-26064-0-49075000-1543876548_thumb.jpgpost-26064-0-16869100-1543876680_thumb.jpg

Well, since my grump this morning, I have spoken to Red5, after some sorting, my BMW which continues to have heater/engine overheating problems (caused by topping up with water yesterday and somehow creating an airlock) my BMW is now here for a few days:

And I am now using this:

First impressions? Well it's slightly less refined than the BMW but so far, I like the lazy diesel engine, the higher torque whereas the petrol BMW can be difficult to keep at a constant torque.

Anyway. Big massive thanks to Red5 for helping me out. I like the MG, it makes me smile but I'm gonna keep on plodding with the BMW, it has really grown on me and I don't think it needs a huge amount of work, well, at least I hope it doesn't...

Further to this, I took the MG on the motorway for the first time. Sam wasn't wrong when he said it felt more planted on the motorway, dare I say it, it feels more at home on the motorway like a long distance motorway cruiser than the BMW does.

How much 4 cash 2nite m8?

1400 takes it. Spent the night trying to concoct a scenario where this doesn't happen but I can't.

Drove past the worlds most expensive used car pitch today at the bottom of my road. And no I don’t live in Mayfair...

07 plate Mondeo (the old Mk3 shape) on at £2500!!! Jesus wept! Why would you when a (much better) Mk4 starts at the £1500 mark? 5 years ago i paid £1600 for a 2005 one so he’s way way way over book there.

Think I'm done with R8s. Since getting the Civic, which is basically the same car but more practical, better built, and better at its job, I've just lost all enthusiasm for it. It continues to fight me on a daily basis, and it still needs a lot of work.

Paint is a ten footer, but it's got 6 alloy wheels, a $$$ stainless exhaust, and a decently powerful twincam. New cambelt and headgasket on it too, fuel relay, some ignition bits, ATF and oil in good condition, head rebuilt, blah blah.

there's only one patch of rust on a sill end that needs doing.

Interior is fine, headlining isn't sagging, also it's blue velour.

Has a ton of keys, fair bit of history, and nothing's broken.

Only thing wrong with it is it won't idle when hot, and you have to give it a fair bit of gas or a blip of the throttle pulling away, or it just misfires and won't pull.

It's fine on the motorway though, if a little noisy (needs sound deadening). I've seen a much better prospect of a mile muncher that will compliment the Civic well, and my dad is all for it too. It's also not a four cylinder.

Rover needs gone though. Any interest at some sort of shiters price beginning with a 4? In a perfect world I'd want about £500 considering the exhaust/header and bonus alloy wheel/tyre, but if I can get it gone quick and slightly cheaper to make space for something else that's fine.
Can be taxed to get you home, delivery possible at fuel cost etc.

Any details on the 404?  Always had a soft spot for those.

Makes interesting reading that, sounds like the owner knew there was something dodgy going on with the car.....

I imagine the owner was warned by the insurance company and their lawyers to keep his mouth zipped shut and do what they say to keep all of them out of trouble.

More than likely. I'm probably just making massive guesses here but:

1)land rover headlights acting dodgy on CCTV

2)owner smells burning and returns a few times before leaving

dodgy aftermarket HID or facelift light kit that's started the fire?

I've been careless, I'm currently carless, the Land Rover is still undergoing its gearbox change and I stupidly stuck the C15 in for its MOT ten days early and it failed. Not surprised as it does need a little bit of welding, but currently awaiting firstly the cost and when they can do it, other than that it is a wheelbearing that I hadn't got around to and a brake pipe. Hopefully it will live again. For some reason I thought the MOT was out today, otherwise I would have been "dangerous" and awaited until the Land Rover was back.

Not really, it is however pretty obvious that they were told only to talk with the insurers lawyer present and not make any other statements.

After all how any times have you smelt a hot clutch/ brakes/ fuel and it's been another vehicle?

The first person to turn up here (Anglesey) with a trailer, a half-decent bottle of scotch and £300 can have the Dolomite.

This should be in the grump thread, but I don't even give a f**k.

Interesting, no mention of a faulty LPG system which was mentioned a lot at the time. Funny that the Range Rovers insurers weren't very helpful though...

Friends of my parents lost their brand new Toyota in it.

There's only one temporary solution open to you, I'm afraid...

Don't get too excited chaps, it hasn't actually started in over a year. It also needs all new sills and some floor patches. Hence trailer.

I'm moving house next week, and losing storage space for it. I thought I could squeeze it in (oo-er) but domestic management has overruled yet again. Frankly it's just wrong to have it sitting rotting away when someone with better health (and a better attitude) than me could actually do something constructive with it.

It's a 1980 1300 (squarelight), formerly belonging to PBK of this parish. It's had vinyl seats and walnut dash (from an HL?) otherwise it's stock. It was running fine, up until I stopped running it. If anyone's really interested, I'll hose the mould off tomorrow and take some pics.
