Non-car related, apologies.  After expressing my misery recently my other half has somehow managed to get me into helping with tech for a big show at a theatre that seats a couple of thousand.  No problem with doing tech at all - after all, a large part of my job is light and sound engineering.  I'm a one-man-band that does the lighting plans, sets up the cues and operates all the tech myself but on a small scale.  The most is up to about 300 at a time.  I thought I would be asked to be sound op or just help out at rehearsals, which would be great.

Except that they want me to be assistant technical manager.  Calling all the cues over the headsets.  The bloke who normally does it is off being technical manager for a large ballet company so they've asked me to sit in and direct the show running.  He will be there at points but they need somebody else to do it.  I'm going to treat it like a job interview.  It's certainly a big f*#@ing deal.  And they're going to pay me.

Shit.Shit.Shit.

Must think you're capable!

You'll be rest!

Mate, it's scary shit.  I likened it to being third violin then suddenly being asked to conduct.

My other half got me into this mess!

In for MOT. Forgot to clean the outside. Obvs.

Has a blow in the back of the exhaust.

Went into the MOT place and they had a Bitter in for work!

Apparently I'm the first person to know what it is.

Fail! But not a bad fail in the grand scheme of things.

Will be done in a week or so.

Then probably for sale once I've cleaned it and tidied up the bits that need it.

As previously said, it will be cheap so £375 would take it.

Sounds like an opportunity has dropped into your lap.....

Yeah, I can see it's scary! But 3rd violin need to know the piece so they know where to come in. You know how to do the work.

Your other half thinks you have the skills - trust their judgement, write down what you need to know to make it happen, then do it:)

Shit like this is daunting the first time, but by the sounds of it it's just a scaled up version of what you can already do.

Sure you'll do well!

The Jag got a wash and its annual wax.

Unfortunately no amount of wax can disguise the utterly shagged paint and all the dents and scratches, but it does make them nice and shiny.

MOT man is not looking forwards to Monday and has a huge pile of new stuff to read and digest for then, he hadn't seen the leaks must be over x cm puddle bit either, he is expecting tears before bedtime.

He guessed around 50% of the stuff coming in has an EML light on...

So far today....

(1) Mrs P keeps waking up at 3am because an alarm is going off somewhere. Found an old Casio watch which had fallen down behind our dresser and somehow the alarm button had been pressed when I pushed the dresser back a tad the other day. Watch located, alarm disabled, Mrs P happy

(2) Juniors iPad packed up years ago and it was shoved in the cupboard. Noticed it today and decided to do some diagnostics. Simple really, the casing had somehow bowed out slightly near the charging port (probably due to his rough handling of it) and as a result the charger wasn’t quite fully engaging so it wouldn’t charge. Five seconds of bending and voila, it’s taking a charge. Christ knows how many updates it has waiting!

(3) Noticed an injured bee in the garden. Picked him up and put him in a bush safely out of the way of the cats. Thought he might be tired and hungry so squirted a couple of drips of golden syrup on the leaf next to him. Just checked him and he is scoffing it, good lad!

Investigator, electronics guru and bee whisperer. Later today I shall build a coffee table out of an old scaffold board I found, develop female viagra, and solve the Middle East problems. Usual Saturday....

Other human beings do it, you are a human being, you will be fine. The vast majority of things are within the capabilities of the average person. If you are conscientious, logical and don't freak out you'll be fine. Believe in yourself you grumpy sod!

Oil and filter time on the Passat, plus air and cabin filter. While it was up on the ramps I noticed a wet patch on the bottom of the bumper, a bit of investigation revealed I have a dying radiator, its weeping all down one side. Now if I can just find where I put the Haynes book of lies I will know if I will be doing it myself or releasing my tame mechanic on it.

Well, found Haynes book, looks doable. New radiator ordered from Car Parts 4 less £38

Yes. Excellent recommendation. The owner is a thoroughly nice chap.

While Mrs SiC was enjoying the sunshine and watching the wedding, I had plenty of time to get on with sorting the garage. This is an incredibly important thing I needed to do to prep ready to receive a certain Austin 1100. Both for storage and making it a lot easier to gather tools in and out of the back of the garage.

Originally the garage door was blocked by this shelving unit and other clutter. These shelving units are being replaced by a much more sturdy Clarke unit. This looks tidy, but I had already removed a lot of stuff that filled up all in front of this.

This is just some of the stuff that was in the way.

After most of this afternoon, I've got it to this stage. This leaves plenty of room in the front for storage on anything I strip off the car.

This is where I'll be doing the work. It's modest, compared to many peoples hobby spaces on here, but I'm very thankful for having what I've got.

The only thing is that I wish I had more room to the sides. Thankfully old cars are a fair bit narrower, so it's not totally unusable.

I reckon you need my tool chest in there

I ended up buying this, which I think is nearly identical to yours - except missing the centre section. I had a load of Halfords vouchers given to me on my birthday and I needed to get it all sorted, so I just went out and got one when they had their last offer on.

Made a new video to test my OLFI action camera. I was recommended to try one by Jonny Smith no less. I like the footage (albeit camera placement needs to improve) but I've had some complain that there's a high-pitched noise throughout - one folk my age and older probably can't hear. Anyone else get that?
