and let me guess? after several hours moving furniture etc, you ended up with everything back where it was when you started?

that what happened the last time i tried moving the furniture about.......

Cables, eurgh.

Built a desktop pc for Junior - supposed to be with Jr but he fucked off most of the time. What a pain in the hoop that was. I would take a cylinder head rebuild any day of the week

Not quite, it ended up back where it was before the last move about.  We are a bit limited due to fireplace and a 350ltr fish tank.

I bet a modern 250f would run rings round a 495 on the enduro tracks round here. Esp over 3 hrs non stop .

I switched from a 300xc Ktm to the tiddler and I’m much much faster now

There's some quite good footage of someone riding a CR500 against modern 4t stuff at Hawkhurst? (maybe) he's not far off the pace, you would have to be superman to boss a 500 about for 3 hours though

Inflated my tyres earlier this evening at a Co-Op petrol station...50p for the token. I have moaned about my Almera's extremely heavy (power assisted) steering in the past. Getting the car into the narrow council garage* with little space to manoeuvre in front was a challenge.

I checked the label on the inside of the B pillar: 35 PSI for the fronts, 31 for the backs unladen (I'm sure the owner's manual stated 34 and 30 respectively so maybe Nissan are unsure!). I put 37 PSI into the fronts and 33 PSI into the rears. It drives much better now, steering is easier. icon_cool.gif

I hope I don't come a cropper for having over-inflated tyres! icon_eek.gif

I had my tyres 5psi over all round for mo this for reasons I'm not sure of... At the correct pressure the wheel shake subsided a bit but not much else, didn't wear the tyres down over the few thousand miles I did

Hawkestone ? Mx there may not be much in it but on a snotty rooty sw enduro round small is beautiful. When your average speed is about 10 mph a big stroker is a liability .

Massively powerful . vibey , hard to start old monsters

My KTM 495 was horrific on fuel too if you could keep the throttle open, would definitely buy another but they are all out of my price range now :(

I’d love an 02 Ktm 380sx - proper open class stroker. None of this tuned for torque bollocks like the 300’s

Been doing a bit of work on the ex-Bramz 205 today.  It now has a functioning horn - albeit wired up to a separate switch.  A bit of investigation with the multimeter revealed that when the column stalk is pressed inwards, a grand total of 2 volts arrives at the horn.  So it's obviously not as simple as a disconnected plug in the fuse box - there's evidently a deeper issue somewhere, which I have neither the time nor the energy to attempt to investigate at the moment.  So separate switch it is.  The original horn works OK now I've cleaned up the earth connections, which is a bonus as it's a bit manky and I thought I might have to fork out for a new one.

My Sunday wouldn't have been complete without some crawling around underneath one vehicle or another, although this time it was just to get the steering rack boot unclipped from the rack end - that took some pissing about as the clip is rather rusty and access not brilliant, but got there in the end.

Then I whipped the rear brake drum off to have a look and see if I could see what the issue was there.

Aye, I think that would explain the

Offside rear brake recording little or no effort (3.7.B.5a)
Offside rear parking brake recording little or no effort (3.7.B.6a)

Rear Brakes imbalanced across an axle Axle 2 (3.7.B.5b)

.  The cylinder must have been leaking for some time as everything is absolutely covered in fluid.  So I'm going to order a new cylinder in - not hugely expensive and doesn't look like too much of a twat of a job (famous last words I know).  What I'm not sure of is whether the brake shoes will go again with a good clean up, or whether they're so saturated with brake fluid that they'll never generate any friction again.  I also need to order a new hub nut as the one on there is absolutely mullered.  I managed to snap the tip off one of my Halfords Advanced screwdrivers knocking the staking out, which I wasn't too impressed by.

Other than that and getting the C4 through its test, the only other fettling I've done this weekend is to have a play with the Lexmoto bike - I bought a smoll inline fuel filter in the week, and fitted it yesterday in an attempt to stop the crap from the tank getting into the carb.  It appears to be working, to an extent at least - I had the bike running for about 10 minutes yesterday, having borrowed the battery from the Spacy.  It's a bit reluctant to idle off choke and it doesn't want to rev either, although it could be made to rev briefly with the old hand-over-air-intake trick, but it sounds healthy enough.  I think the carb needs to come off for another clean really.  The lights are all working and it's charging OK, so once it's running right a part worn rear tyre and a strip'n'clean of the brakes and it should be nearly ready for the road.

You will need new brake shoes, the fluid will have soaked right through the lining. Cleaning/burning/etc the fluid out of the surface will only work until the surface layer is worn off. Sorry.

I changed the fuel filters and clean out the sediment bowl on the lift pump.

Now I can't get any fuel through to fill up the filters.

I've opened the bleed valve on the second filter, but no amount of pumping the lift pump or cranking the engine is bringing fuel through.

Can only get about quarter of an inch up the glass bowl on the lift pump.

I must be doing it wrong, or I'm sooking air.

they did have this super clean looking mark 1 Sierra 2.0 GL. my dad had one, though his was "sable" and was as never as clean as this one. this one hasa 5 speed gearbox, my dads didn't have that! plus, my fathers Sierra had "dangly" mirrors and i think the bumpers are the wrong colour also.... still its a nice looking old thing

attachicon.gifDSCN7361.JPG

That looks brilliant, and the "colour toned" bumpers and non-dangly mirrors are correct for a GL.  It even has the original wheel trims.  5 speed gearbox was an optional extra.

W203 this morning has decided not to recognise either key.

Can unlock with the wee small metal key but the hazards flash and nothing works.

Can't even move it because the steering lock is on and it's all electronic on these, and the angle I've parked it at means it'll hit the wall if I push it straight out

Looks like an EIS fault...... Have left battery off but not holding out much hope.

Indulge me talking about moderns.

The local main dealer has just cold called me.. "We see your (actually wife's, but I pay the bills) car is due a service, cam belt / water pump / brake fluid change..."

Me: 'Is there a menu price for that?'

..........(sound of keyboard tapping)........"Yes, £790........ plus  VAT"

I love modern cars.

a chap I know has just spent similar on an Ibiza, it's still only done 30k. I've asked for first refusal when he sells

Um... when I've taken the rear drums off old Peugeots, the bearing hasn't stayed on the stub axle like that. It's meant to be pressed into the drum.

No, I think that's ok. The outer race is pressed into the drum. That's the inner.

It probably is ok. I've personally never seen one do that though.

I think that's mainly because when I've been taking the drums off it's been to replace a fucked wheel bearing!

It happens a lot with Peugeot / Citroens. They are not supposed to come apart like that but it will be ok as long as the ring that holds the 2 inners in place is removed and discarded. It is like a little sprung metal band and will be attached to either of the inners or fall out on it's own. It may well already be missing though as they do get thrown away when this happens. Don't even try to refit it as you will spend hours and just end up messing up the bearings.

^^^ Daaah! The kind of Monday woes nobody needs... hope you get it sorted. Known issue on these, or is it freestyling?

Potentially known issue, in that the EIS (ignition module, rather than have an actual key these have a sort of IR key similar in idea but not execution to renault key cards)

To fix it needs removed and sent away with both keys to be repaired and reprogrammed. seems to be around £120 assuming they find no other faults.

To extract the wife's qashqai, I had to perform the following:

1) wait until the neighbours car was out of the way as my steering is locked (again electronic) and the merc was aimed at her picasso,

2) remove some trim to manually release the car from park (again electronically controlled),

3) Give myself a hernia pushing the car out of the four dips its wheels have left on the loose stone driveway,

4) Panic as it gains momentum quickly and runs onto the road,

5) Near run myself over stopping it,

6) Find spare keys for qashqai as wife has taken main keys with her while walking kids to school,

7) Remove Qashqai,

8) Roll merc back onto drive way until it gets beached half on the road half on the drive

9) Summon help from a friendly gardener working nearby

10) Put car back on drive

Ive left it with the battery disconnected in the hope it will reset itself, and I'll worry about it later.....as for the low voltage I had noticed a few times on enetering the car that the rear interior light was on. Up until now I've blamed the kids but perhaps there is something amiss there, causing a battery drain, which overnight has dropped the voltage low enough to cause this issue.

The internet tells me low battery voltage can cause the EIS to just not power up at all so I have everything crossed thats my issue.....

Modern diesels can be a pain, but driven properly they’re not too bad.

This is only a 1.8 (VVTC) so doubt it’ll be a rocket ship somehow!

Sounds a good buy. Seems to be quite a few late ones knocking about at few pennies.

Had an Autojumble stall at a local-ish show yesterday.

Amazing the amount of automotive tat you can squeeze into a Viva.

The overladen and underpowered car did the 70ish mile round trip without missing a beat.
