Unsure if my brain has been kidnapped by aliens or something, but I quite fancy a Mk3 Golf GTi in that metallic green colour.

Didn't you say it has a broken spring? that'd cause poor tracking and much oddness.

It's not broken but it seems to have lost its tension and collapsed a bit under load.

It's also on the right hand side of the car, and the car is pulling left.

Is it pulling left because there's no weight on the wheel?

You'll still have weight on the wheel, but as the strut compresses the castor & camber changes which affects how the car drives. Basicly I'd sort that before sodding about with the rest, for starters if you put two new springs on the front then the tracking will be out again due to the above.

*orders springs*

£60 for a pair from mister-auto.com, which is okay.

Coming from France so they'll probably be here, eh, whenever.

You doing it or getting it done?

I hate doing springs on mcpherson struts (if that's what the Honda has).

Historically I've always done it myself but the last two I done I just removed the struts complete and dropped them into my friendly mechanic mate. I wasn't in any rush for them mind

I've done one set & the tension on the spring compressors scared me, I didn't enjoy standing anywhere near them at all. I'd get it done if I needed it doing these days.

Is anyone able to view a car for me near Salisbury this evening? House move has prevented me doing it.

If you can, PM me please.

Or tomorrow instead. Anyone?!

I may be getting an 'R' reg Fiesta!  My friend Betty is giving up on the driving front as she is moving into a new gaff/retirement home type place. I have joked with her many times that I want it left to me in her will when I'll restore it in her honour and also to make the poor little thing feel better as it has nary an unscuffed panel/bumper corner. She bought it new and it's a Ghia wiv 'leccy windows and stuff, always been serviced on time and has done a pathetic mileage (sub 50K) so while cosmetically, it's 'challenged' mechanically, it's spot on.

I'd love to restore it back to its new state, while she's still alive so I can show her/let her drive it again. She doesn't want any money from either....

I wish I'd know you were looking for seats, I've a pair in the loft that I need to get rid of. The only minor issue being the colour :

Oh yeah, and they're in scotchland !

Still, they do match the forum nicely :)

And the hole ?

Sounds excellent x triple. Just don't do it at Bentley paintshop prices. Pics please when the project starts.

Went to the local farm shop this morning after work. The owner had his Hillman superminx out of the barn. Dull green with a few marks it was his grandfather’s new. Not a club member just used the car occasionally. Told him about drive it Day next Sunday of which he was unaware.

Saturday morning saw me replace a seized handbrake cable on the CRV. PITA job i'd been putting off for a while because of the weather and general CBA. This meant that this morning I could park it up on the ramps and safely leave it running to investigate the blowing exhaust. Believe it or not the cat had rotted through around a seam. 16 years old with 176k miles so I can't complain as it's all the original system! Welded that up along with another crack at a weld on the mid silencer. Apart from the 6" outlet pipe from the back box having rotted off I now have a fixed(*) exhaust for now. Being realistic though there's precious little left of any of the flanges holding the components together so even with the welding the system is unlikely to see out another winter.

I can get a new cat, silencers and fitting hardware for about £210 delivered off the bay but I'm a little fearful of having to remove the two lambda probes on the cat as new ones are a little bit spendy. I've ordered up a lambda probe crow foot tool so when it arrives I'll gingerly have a go at getting the old ones out. Wish me luck.........

I'd start soaking them in your favorite penetrating oil ready for that job.

Finally spent some time with the C15 this afternoon after a vigorous FTP happened a couple of months back:

AujEUot.jpg

Suspected it was more than the clutch cable; consultation with ruffgeezer and another mate diagnosed the fault.

The release bearing operates, but the clutch is on the rivets. It makes a HORRIBLE sound in operation and the van will just about move forward on tickover.

Of course, a sensible person would have left it in the yard, but div cheese here decided to run it up the lane.

I got a clutch kit and cable very cheap in the last ECP sale so when there's a bit of spare time I'll* hoy it in with the erstwhile editor of Retro Cars.

Then some high** quality rust repairs will take place, followed by a clean and some guffing of Vactan everywhere.

I'd like to buy it some proper 155/80 13 Michelin tyres like a sad dope.

Hhhhhhhhhhhh, indeed.

This actually look half decent. Might look a bit more normal in a classic car that most modern flashy, colourful, spangley units. Also being a mechless unit, it's short and so likely fit easily.

I've seen those before on ebay, there's a few different models out there and I really like the whole mechless thing.

At the other end of the scale, and for very little more coin I'm tempted to try one of these:

I only worry it'll either stop working in ten minutes, sound terrible or set the car on fire

Or if you're really lucky, all three...

Mechless is pretty good though; less of a pain to fit, a fair whack cheaper and a bigger area for the display - it really wouldn't occur to me to carry CDs in the car anymore, so a definite win.

The cheapo Pioneer I bought last year has been up to the job; not as sure about the no-name retro style ones but tbh it could well be the exact same innards - didn't someone here do a teardown on some generic cassette unit and found it was all high-end JVC and Canon components inside?

My pioneer has a cd player, but I've never used it in the year I've had it. Dab/sd/Bluetooth is all I need nowadays

Following SiC pointing this modern radio with a vintage look I have ordered one and plan to fit to the Gamma.

This is photoshop fitting what do you think?

Is there anything better remembering this was only £14 and I am not looking to spend more.

Please tell me you are not going to hack a hole in that beautiful Gamma dashboard six-cylinder!

It is the standard radio fitting position and I am hoping the plate will just lift out.

The car is away in storage so I can't check at the moment.
