Somewhere in Geordieland is a back garden with the remains of a Morris Minor buried in it. My riding partner's oul man dug a massive hole in the 1970s and pushed the car in.

A primary school in Oswestry has a Sunbeam Ti sitting under it

It got pushed into a hole after being abandoned by one of the labourers who had walked off the job

I missed getting hold of it by a couple of hours...gutted

I am disappointed in the Cortina's makeover.  It's not that it's a bad makeover, per se, I just wish it still looked like it did in 1981 and they'd used a more different Cortina to make the modern beige version of it.

Took advantage of the 25°c and sunny day to change a rear wheel bearing on the Legacy

What should have been a nice few hour turned into an all day job as every bolt was rusted into its bush,meaning Mr grinder and the big drill came out to play

Anyhow,all done and quiet is now restored to the mighty Scoob.....maybe a bit too quiet

There is the roof of an old garage buried under the concrete base of the garage that replaced it, as your brother in law needed "hard core" and a corrugated asbestos* roof seemed to be the right shape for the hole he'd dug.

 

*To be fair it might not be asbestos, but that concrete glass filled alternative that they use instead.

Gave The Volvo's cooling system a thorough flushing out (in both directions) with a garden hose today, the first time I have ever done such a thing since I've owned the car. Hopefully, this will have removed the stubborn vestiges of the pink OAT coolant which my garage put in the car when they replaced the water pump in 2012, which had the unfortunate side effect of causing traditional blue coolant to turn a yucky purple colour within a few miles of a coolant change. Refilled with nice new blue stuff, all seems well

Today I was visited by Laurence Llewelyn Bowen in Cat form who was very angry about me having an old cupboard which didn't match anything else in the house. So anxious not to displease this feline TV Personality we don't see much of nowadays I broke out the abrasives, primers, and various other stuff and facelifted it.

Considering some of the remarks above I think it's a good thing I didn't!

He did seem a bit mental, he'd managed to find my VOC posts somehow and was nosing round my Flickr as well. I was sort of surprised he didn't find AS tbh.

The car now lives somewhere around Walker in Newcastle, after 30 years in Manchester.

You are bob on with the ebay classified ad, I sold the T4 van earlier in the week on there. The BMW went the week before and my dad has just sold his motor within two days. Gumtree has been piss poor recently on the sales front. I'll stick the Clio on ebay I reckon when I get back from my hols.

Got a phone call from my eldest to say his girlfriend’s Aygo was making a noise from the front, under braking. I had a quick look through the wheel to see low pads and lipped discs, disappointingly she had it serviced before Christmas and nothing was reported.

 

The worst pad was hitting the lip on the disc, at 57k on original pads it’s not done too bad. Certainly had her money’s worth out of these!

So I spent yesterday evening changing discs, pads, brake fluid and giving it a proper service.

My uncle buried at least two Morris cars, a Minor and a Traveller, on his land in the early 80's.

 

It may have been to avoid paying to have them taken the scrapyard or maybe he just wanted to tidy up his garden?

Overall I'm pleased with this one, it drives very well and doesn't seem to need anything horrific. The idea is I can have this for a while now (more than 3 months would be an improvement on recent ownership stints) and its value should at least stay stable. These are quite popular despite being slated when new for not being properly fast.

 

From what I've experienced so far, it has plenty of power but it's subtle - flexible with bags of torque and it'll happily stay in 6th from surprisingly low speeds right up to the limit. It does need a service which I'll attend to soon.

There's some marks on the bodywork but overall for a Focus it's pretty good, one front wing has some rust blebs and doesn't appear to be original anyway. A big stack of paperwork and no real signs of neglect, I think the right amount of fresh oil and a new set of plugs and leads should be very good for it. It has no record of a timing belt change either but as I have their details I'm going to write to a couple of previous owners to see if they have any record of it and see if the owners' manual and/or spare key are still around somewhere. I might also try contacting the garages on a couple of the invoices.

And on the subject of colours, I do like this - it's had a very thorough machine polish recently and is mega shiny, it's eye catching without being loud.

I didn't know these had a 6 speed gearbox. With it being essentially the same engine in the Fiesta ST can they be swapped?

  Stripped the  rear brakes on the  mk1 Fiesta ,aiming for the Festival of Unexceptional  !

 

 Removed the back plates ,angle grinder wire brushed and painted them with zinc rich paint and then matt black .

  The brake dust smelled of asbestos ...  Purchased new  shoes, brake shoe fitting kit , 2  discs  , pads,  and wheel cylinders   ... as they looked to be original 1982  , and new Mintex ones were  only £1.95 each on the bay . Mintex is probably means Chinese now....

Well I'm glad it's a nice sunny day here, as my exhaust backbox is now held on by the clamp to the centre section! Luckily the new rubbers are in the boot and all my tools are at my mums so it should be a quick lunchtime job! Thought the back end was knocking a bit more than usual on the way into work!

Yesterday after work I treated the Jag to a Tesco Value car wash, and then a 3-minute blast with the jet wash to get rid of all the bird shite Tesco had been unable to shift (to be fair I think the birds had been nomming Gorilla Glue).

 

It came up quite well I think.

 

 

 

 

The interior is a delightful mix of beige and brown.

 

 

 

It's not a bad old thing as accidental eBay purchases go.  It has a few issues, chief among which are an occasional slight missfire when warm (I reckon a coil pack is probably on its way out) and the central locking has been disabled as it was draining the battery.  Also I haven't been able to get the cruise control to work.  It drives nicely though, it's comfy, the stereo is decent, the heater works and according to the computer it averaged 35.5mpg on the run back to Norwich, which isn't bad for a 3-litre V6 barge and is in fact almost double what my last Jag managed on the run home (although to be fair that did have double the cylinders).  It's got plenty of poke when needed too.  The fuel economy does drop like a stone when driving in city traffic though, but you'd expect that.  Mileage is fairly low for its age - it rolled over 94K on the drive home.

 

I'm not sure what to do with it yet - it's got plenty of test so I might use it for a couple of months and then punt it on.  I got it cheap enough that even I should struggle to lose money on it (that's jinxed it now).

I enjoyed a very serene ride in Alf892s last year.  They are firmly on my radar now.  Looking forward to the sale!!

I rather spectacularly shed a wiper on the way to work today. Splashed by an oncoming lorry, wiped the screen and the drivers side blade was jettisoned. 

 

Luckily, I had kept the old (borked) blades in the boot so a replacement was quickly drafted in.

 

Hopefully that's as interesting as today gets.

That's a heckin' nice car. S-Types are really appealing to me now that they seen as 'bangers' by most of the car buying public

I didn't know these had a 6 speed gearbox. With it being essentially the same engine in the Fiesta ST can they be swapped?

 

No idea, it is quite a big gearbox though, looks a tight fit in the Focus' engine bay so probably would be tricky to fit in the Fiesta.  Nice to use, if not quite as good as the Puma's.

Just polished el dollop. Meguirs quick wax, it is effin' brilliant stuff. 15 minutes front to back and it looks ace and so easy to use even a cripple like me barely works a sweat up!

 

Made a change from looking for a new car, bloody boring and tedious searchin eBay and autotrader over and over. Not quite sure what I think is going to change when the search critirea is the same? Just know I want: leather, twat nav, reverse camera, auto, petrol and other than that I am easy going!

 

Oh, and a V8 and a Lexus badge.

Attempted to fit The Volvo's replacement door wiring loom this morning, but it turned out that it was incompatible with the car's electrical components, as it was wired up differently. I ended up getting everything working again by soldering up the broken wires in the car's existing loom.

 

Another job off the list...
