The new news 24 thread

I wish to extend my thanks to several members on this board who recommended that I try selling my car on Ebay. It sold and for a very good price. Despite the weather, the buyer made a long trip to collect the car tonight and it is now gone. This was my first ever sale using Ebay and I found the right buyer.

You know who you are. I just wanted to say a big "Thank you very much"

Someone actually sold a car on Ebay?! Now that's a news story.

It does work but only if you do a classified ad. My BMW went that way in no time. I'd never auction a car on there though.

Got an electrician coming tomorrow to fit a new consumer unit. As this house hasn't got RCDs and full of wiring bodges that I've slowly resolved, I'm more nervous about it than having an MOT done on any of my cars. I'm really not quite sure what will be brought up in it. :?

If all goes well and doesn't bankrupt me, I might ask about having a proper high current feed put into the garage too. Maybe even with a nice fat 16A socket. At the moment its some dodgy spur coming out of the conservatory somewhere to then go underground to appear in a double socket. Knowing the rest of the wiring done by previous owners, its probably something stupid like standard twin and earth going under the garden soil.

It has a 'box from a 620ti fitted, but with the ratios changed to diesel ratios.  The chap I bought it off was a bit mental and spent shitloads on it - it originally had an all-singing-all-dancing Quaife LSD, but that shat itself after a few thousand miles so he took it out and fitted the (rebuilt) 620ti 'box.  It's also had pretty much every conceivable performance upgrade apart from a remap (which would have been far more cost effective and is something I will eventually get done), as well as the suspension and uprated front brakes from a ZS190, and three (count 'em) strut braces.

Blimey. I'd love to knoe more about someone who fits a quaife LSD in a Rover 45 diesel, sounds like a right headbanger

I've got some serious horn for this.  Shame it's 13 miles from the nearest railway station... I wonder if they'd pick me up?  Or if there's a shiter nearby who fancies helping out with a coleckshun?

Kingsbridge in Devon if you're not in a position to click the link.

Came back from Pacific North West, got stranded in the Netherlands last night. Got put up in a the Marriott hotel, The Hague, right next to Europol’s office and several other international government organisations. All for free. Included dinner and breakfast tody!

So dispite freezing temperatures, I went for a walk around and did some Euro-Shite spotting...

Noted with thanks... reminds self to look more closely next time.  I haven't looked at the MoT history yet either.

I did think the BiN was suspiciously low.

Aaaaand I'm out. MoT expires 7th March and I reckon it will need discs at least so I won't be driving it home. Shame, it's just what I'm looking for but I do want some MoT at least.

Got the Streetwise's SCU back from Brighton today after some Royal Mail shenanigans at the techno-wizards end. Now for the fun part - getting the bloody thing back in again.

Thoroughly recommend this bloke by the way - he's a legend in MG-R circles

Re: Dutchland - why are LNA's so popular there? Whenever I see them they look well looked after and very expensive.

Last week in Devon, saw this at Killerton (plus nice Merc 190) from right across the car park as it stood out a mile amongst the boring stuff.

As a bonus I was using my mate’s only slightly shonky Audi 80 convertible 2.6E with blue leather interior.

Previous night in a restaurant prior to playing a gig at a posh hotel in Torquay, parked outside was a light metallic green F plate Escort 1.6 Ghia.

Not been on here for a week or two.  Just seen the news about Hendry.

Shocked.

Thoughts with his family.

I now have the horn

Streetwise streetworthy - working not permanently on horn plus first time I've seen the rear fog lights lit up. Next up, MOT.

My bones are cold after an hour out in the street.

Neighbour asked me if PTSD was working now - advised was. Said did I want to sell it, as one of his mates has seen it and wants to buy it ? Hmm...

They never did a 4 door Capri.  You could get the Classic as a 4 door though.

Got the fuel cap off the Rover of Doom today after much fiddling, so that's back in operation again.  I think one of the tumblers in the lock had got stuck.  Oddly, the Beast from the East seems to have brought the clock display back to life for the first time in the 7 1/2 years I've owned the car - although it doesn't display anything useful.

Also got the 45 started by charging the battery up and then running my two thickest jump leads from the battery earth to two of the head bolts.  The leads were still pretty warm by the time the engine started - I'm going to need to find a fairly meaty earth strap to replace the broken one.

The replacement driver's door mirror glass for the Perodua arrived in the post.  It's much too small.  I couldn't find a Myvi mirror so ordered a Sirion one as they're the same car, but Perodua mirrors are apparently bigger.  Still, it fits in the casing and is good enough to pass a test so I've stuck it in with a combination of double-sided tape and superglue, and it can stay unless / until I can find a proper Myvi one.  I did think about buying one of those plastic cut-out-and-stick-on mirrors, but I've never managed to get one of those to go flat enough to provide any meaningful view of what's behind.

Took the 205 for a drive on what's left of the snow - predictably, it's fucking brilliant, even without winter tyres.  If the heater weren't so shite (compared to the Audi's at least) I'd have been using it all week to drive to work in.

Ex PBK/Wuvvum minibus camperisation project underway.

Plenty left to do yet but the layout is sorted and the materials are all here, so it's just time I need now.

2002 tdci Focus. What may cause the interior to stink of exhaust fumes when stationary? Asking for a friend. I said some leak somewhere, but do they go somewhere common?

Does it stink with the just blower on only or all the time? Blower on would indicate to me a leak near the front, or oil all over something hot. Like when the vacuum pump started leaking on my Saab recently.

All the time and it makes it less precise.

Just with the vests on they say! (drunken diagnosis here, we've just been to McDonald's for milkshakes and apparently it's been doing it for a while. I can pop the bonnet tomorrow and have a look)
