Yup, disconnected overnight.

Grey fuse pulled and waited, no dice.

Seems to be not recognising the key.

Won't run on ether.

Yes, that method was implemented.

Use of varying sizes of hammers is next on the list, followed by fire, in varying quantities.

Mostly big.

My ex missus has a 307 and I seem to recall the manual describing some kind of ritual involving window position, door opening, locking and prayers to the sun god Ra before you disconnect or reconnect the battery.

It's a crapmound.

Yeah, there's some bollox about allowing the BSI to go to "sleep" before disconnecting the battery.

Load of horsepiss really. I understand it doesn't read enough amps to do what it wants and shuts itself down and goes into "eco mode."

To get it out of eco mode you need to start the engine...

Has that Wolsley got poppy-outy and windy-downy windows? Decadence. You must have been proper living the dream in 1973 to be driving around in a car with such a choice of ventilation.

To be fair, that wasn't unusual in the 1960s, when this car was designed. I remember being thrilled by my aunt's Morris Oxford, because it had opening quarter-lights front and rear!

I should note it's not mine!  I just accompanied Mike on the collection.  But yes, windy windows and poppy outy windows.  I never knew these had poppy outy windows until poking around this one.  No quarter lights up front because it's modern*.

Picked up the fuel tank delivered today. Unfortunately the mounting tabs have been bent in transit. Annoyingly the sender company didn't put any padding on the end of the tank in the packing box.

I also paid £1.20 for a single lug nut. I received this.

Hopefully they'll resolve the issue with the tank and it'll be interesting to see if they want their 15 other lug nuts back.

Although the 3 litre, 3 years after the 1800, had them!

Had to get up early today (bloody 6:00 a.m.)  to give me time to get home, walk the mutts and then get to the garage for 8:00 so it can go back to specialist cars to be fixed (again!). I expected to be like the walking dead and struggle to get my arse into gear as that is the time I am often just going to sleep!

Instead, I was full of 'BUZZ' and fair flying around, awake before the alarm sort of thing, so I got up, got dressed, walked the mutts and went home, did a few e-mails, had a shower and was still in time to meet Paul. The BGD still continues to confound me: if I park it outside (slightly uphill) when started there is one noisy tappet, but in the garage, it can be in there for weeks unused and when started, silent as the grave, just its usual discreet purr.  Is the car complaining about being left outside and making its opinion known for the first 20 seconds, or, is it something logical like one tappet doesn't like being on a hill?

The KIA of (very) much indifference is beginning to annoy me more and more. The key fob packed up yesterday and I had to unlock the car with the key - the shame and indignity! However, it is one of the few cars I have ever had where it came with three sets of genuine keys and fobs so I relegated the set I was using to 'spares' and now am using a brand new one. All is once again fine with the world and a minute and discreet press is all that is required to open and lock doors... even the boot release works now!

But, I reckon I should get rid of it. I have zero interest in it and its various faults annoy me yet I have no intention to get them fixed! It's actually a nice car I just don't care for it, but the fuel consumption is horrendous for the little short trips I do (2, maybe 3 mile from cold) and it is doing about 14MPG which, for the same use is worse than the Bentley!

Any idea what it's worth? 57 reg, 60.000 miles, few owners, service history and loads of toys (leather, air con working, electric seats, decent stereo) but it was undesirable when new (they only sold 60 in 3 years!) and about as desirable as syphilis now! I ought to get rid of the MX5 as well, but I like it...

ToMM© in for MOT....

I've asked for service items to be checked + a look at some unnerving 'clonk' emanating from the bulkhead [over sleeping policemen] :(

..... I just feel the £££ ebbing away.....

;)

It's a 2.7 V6 auto, so tiny journeys just do not like it. It was doing 40 odd mpg on the motorway, but round town, cold it's dire! Definitely one of those cases where 'rare, does not equal, 'good'!

Or indeed, worth loads.

It still occasionally starts to misfire when stationary (no idea why!) and the exhaust is now blowing on a front flexi pipe, which, to be fair, actually makes it sound rather good! Not loud but sporty :) Oh, and it acquired a scuff on the front bumper when the mechanic fixed the brakes. Other than that it's okay... honest! :)

Next time you leave on the hill, park it the opposite way around to usual

See if it stops the tapping

Does sound like you have a tappet that likes being kept in oil.....

Due to various things going on at home at the minute I'm tempted to sell the XM.

I know I'll regret it instantly.....but its only seeing sporadic use and I dont have the time to devote to sorting its appearance out.

I'll have a think about it. Wouldnt even know where to start value wise.....

Can't, one way road! It has just been suggested that it is actually one of the pumps making the noise rather than a tappet. That could make sense as I suppose the car will lose more pressure trying to keep the back up (self levelling) when facing uphill than in a nice flat garage. It's annoying rather than anything else and I do like to worry....

The Toledo tyres on the 75 are really quite good, in the wet and dry. I am also not dead so i think i can recommend them.

Huh, that Wolseley Six has only done 2000ish miles in the last TEN YEARS.  I mean, it's a tidy old thing and I wasn't entirely sure if the 33k on the clock was accurate but now I'm thinking it probably was.  Going to be fun easing that one back into service again, all sorts of weird things break when a car only does 200 miles annually.

SSshhhh!

Old man had one in the same colour in about 1978. Damask red and automatic.

Hope the alternators ok- a right ballache to replace-theres an access panel in the inner wing.

Used to tow the caravan ok. Replaced it in 1982.with a 3.0 manual Granada. I was 17 and just passed my test. Happy days

I bet compared to changing an alternator on a modern car that Wolseley will now seem an absolute doddle - access hatch in the inner wing, luxury these days sir!

What kind of Kia is it? Mine will misfire if you take the piss leaving it in 2nd at low speed then accelerate (e.g pulling up to a junction and 1st will baulk but 2nd will nearly cut out). Also seems to do it going up hill every so often, but a thrash to 6k RPM makes it go away for 6 months.

I was behind ToMM a few months ago in Wallsend, was going to flash the headlights and wave or something but you'd probably just be left wondering who the strange man was, flashing his lights for no reason so decided against it.
