It's amazing how much they pressure pack these new mattresses!

I wonder what the process involves? Something big and industrial, no doubt.

I need a new trolley jack too, can't decide between the 2 ton and the 3 ton. Think i might struggle to get the 3 ton under modern stuff as they're so low.

I gave away my brand new 3 ton Halfords trolley jack in disgust because it wouldn't fit under my brand new Golf Mk4.

That was a mistake. I should have kept the jack and given away the Golf. (Jack was nearly as heavy as the Golf)

Was going to deny this but I came to work in my Audi. Unmodified though...

Got the Bluebird back today. It was loaned to a chum because his wife's Golf got smacked up the arse big time, and he had no other working vehicles at the time.

DHWeRsgXkAE9_bB.jpg

The Golf's taken a mighty smack up the arse, to the point that the slam panel for the tailgate is now a good few inches further forward than the tailgate itself. One rear door has a shut line smaller than a gnats knackers. It will soon be bean tins, annoyingly soon after we did battle with the inlet manifold to change the spark plugs.

Further indignity comes from the fact that the temporary hire car now in place is a Renault Captur, which is a quite horrendous blob of modern plastics and annoying electronics. All moderns...

In other news, the Proton has been left with the local garage to get it roadworthy as I simply don't have time. As I don't have time because of work, I shall use some of that income to get it sorted out.

Had the inlet manifold off the Volvo.

Fuck me, it was completely clagged up with oil...

Check and change your crankcase breather system.

Sometimes called the flame trap. The replaceable breather element sits inside a black plastic cup beneath the inlet manifold and it'll be easier to change now if manifolds off. The element costs pence and I bet it's not been done in ages.

Yeah, it's the breather we're trying to get to - didn't have time today as far too much faffing about. Weekend job. Flame trap was fine though, it's been regularly changed.

Simply scraping a load of shite off the inlet put the idle down 100rpm, and it starts a bit easier now too. I'm yet to see how the power delivery might have changed.

Not sure about their jacks but the gas struts they do don't last very long

Doesn't match my experience.

My re-gassed ones on my GS catflap are doing okay  (220N). Even they were surprised they passed a re-gas test at 32 years old.

My new ones on my V343 (350N) are still fine too.

Never bought their workshop stuff, but I might get a trolley for it's the same as everyone elses and cheaper.

How are your injector seals? Easy and pence to do.

Moose is getting all this stuff done when the new car is here. It has earned much attention :D

Regassed will be ok as they are still the original units !

I've fitted a couple of sets to customers cars and both have gone really rusty and fittings on the ends worn out .

They regassed a pair for an integra type r and made a right hash of it and charged me loads more than they said they would . Took 2 months to arrive because they moved factories ( or just forgot them )

Purchased a very broken Saab convertible today for £160.

The guy I bought it off paid £3k a year ago, looks like the cambelt has snapped. It was bought to replace a Rav which cost them £4k and then went bang.

So £7k in two years with about £500 back from scrap. Ouch.

Today they went and bought a 2 year old car with 3 year warranty, fingers crossed for this one.

And some on here wonder why so many people go out and buy brand new cars on finance.

get some offcuts of scaffold plank to drive up onto, then most cars will be jackable with most jacks.

One set regassed. One set new.

Maybe they took their eye off the gassing ball when they decided they wanted to be Machine Mart?

My thoughts on Favorit ownership...

They are proper shite

They have character

They are easy to work on if you have basic skills

Parts can be had cheaply

They are probably slightly undervalued

They need regular maintenance

Lack of PAS makes them less fun in crowded areas, which should be their natural habitat

They are otherwise simple to drive

A really well sorted one like Yoss's would be a lot of fun.

Been doing a bit to the Cortina.

I gave the cortina a service last week and as a reward it started pissing fuel out the carb.

I ordered a rebuild kit for it. Will I be doing a full rebuild with new jets and all that?

Er no.

post-1514-0-18702900-1502919733_thumb.jpg

I replaced all the exterior leaky parts like the accelerator pump diaphragm and some of the autochoke parts without knobbing around with stuff when I already knew it works.

I followed the standard practice when using a carb rebuild kit of laying all the parts out in the box then knocking down the back of the table so everything goes everywhere. I found most of it.

Looks manky.

I refitted it all the gubbins and it doesn't want to start. I took the plugs out and they're wet so I've flooded it. It did start for a bit and ran rough, not convinced there's not a huge air leak somewhere.

I'll try to start it again tomorrow.

I also had a problem with my knob hitting off my handbrake as I guess it was originally a sierra box.

I cut and bent it then welded it back up. No more knob clearance issue.

I also got my fishnets back from the trimmers. They had to put new strappings and make up new side panels for them so my wallet it a bit lighter but they look good and won't fall apart now. The still need a good clean though, no point until I'm going to put them back on the car.

Love those fishnets, everyone wanted them when I was a yoof.

I'm prejudiced, as an ex re/rwd Skoda helmer, and non-fwd owner.... I like the look of them.

Sensible head - alas - tells me Proton did it better (- maintenance needs/+pas)

My Proton hasn't got PAS, and is all the better for it! Would love to do a 'head to head' with a Favorit. I like sharp edges.
