That Volvo looked a bit special.

What's the story?

Autoglass chap has re-stuck my rear view mirror on the Mondeo. He said well known that 90s Fiestas, Mondeo's and escorts have this problem.

Apparently the sticky pads aren't as thick as sticky as they used to be (what is, lol!).

Also he noted mine had been glued on in the past (not advisable) and some of the glue had run down into the mirror ball joint which made it harder to adjust, making it easier to snap off. Silicone lubricrant has made this better.

Ah, but fellow 90s Ford owners may be interested to know that OEM mirror pads are still available...

OEM sticker/pad arrived, I can confirm it is virtually identical to the autoglass one :-)

The black one? That's another story for later.

Why have you had a 106 on axle stands for three years?!

Well, you know how it is, once you've found a good place to keep your axle stands you tend to leave them there.

Took the Sierra up to the cricket club today. Purely to lower the tone.

It worked.

I went into Knutsford today and paid a quid to park the series1. I realised I'd wasted my money when I saw how this bloke did it.post-7547-0-54140300-1498321698_thumb.jpg

He was very particular about positioning, the first time he left the car well out.

He came back after a couple of minutes and considerately moved it in so that the wheels were just on the line. It is LHD.

Boring day. Hair cut, shopping, work, filled up two cars with petrol at the same shell which confused the guy. Exciting day tomorrow visiting the field of dreams.

It's now raining!

For once I managed to spend a bit of a weekend day on cars.

First of all I had to move all my Camry panels, now stashed and vaguely covered in a dry-ish spot:

The reason for moving them was that they were all leaning against the back of the spares Camry, which I needed to move so I could remove the LH front brake caliper. Sod's Law dictated that the one I needed was against the hedge. As it's no longer a runner I had to drag it forwards with the estate, which got me to here:

Once I'd pumped up a flat tyre and got it out of the hole it had sunk into it rolled surprisingly well for a car that hasn't been on the road for some time. Garage seem happy with the state of this replacement caliper, so I've left the estate with them to get it swapped across.

I feel bad that I didn't get this one back on the road, it's still pretty solid and it drove so well when I used it for a few months back in 2011 but realistically the parts on it are of huge use to the estate and the front end damage would have been a costly fix.

Having been reminded that it's Japfest next Saturday, I thought I'd better have a go at making the Laurel look presentable. So far it's been washed, vacuumed and the glass polished, I'll have to try and do the rest of it one evening during the week. Quite a novel experience to walk into the garage tonight and smell cleaning products - it only gets this treatment once a year.....

Sold the Megane this week. Had it on Gumtree for a week or so and had the usual low ball offers and a tyre kicker who said all the right things but obviously wanted to drive a petrol (said he was looking at diesels). Anyway got naffed off and decided to try Autotrader. Put it on for a smidge under a grand and sold it within 15 minutes! Lovely lady rang and left a deposit via paypal then came and picked it up a day later for the full asking.

Good value to advertise too, £9.95 for two weeks as I guess it was under a grand.

In other news I have bought another GTA (I think I'm addicted). This time a non Turbo, it needs some love...Autoshite edition Alpine.

I appear to have won the rover 216 gsi on eBay. For the grand sum of £205.00. I think a bit of tlc and it will be for sale or raffle on here I think. Let's get it first and see.

Absolutely. Please post some pictures up, and put me down for 52 if the raffle goes ahead. I've always liked the higher spec R8s.

Now then, a buddy of mine, from Texas now living just round the corner from me (last 8 years) has just decided he would like to get his truck on the road.

He bought it brand new in 1979 in El Paso, Texas, drove it over here in 2009 when he moved to California, and it has sat in the driveway ever since. The reason.......never got round to registering it in California. Before that can happen it has to pass a smog test, and being a Texas truck most of that emissions control components have been removed or are broken............... and they all need to be on the vehicle and working.

Oh the joy.........this should be fun.........NOT.

Saw a very cheap Renault Clio GT for sale on the side of the road, thought it could be an interesting* replacement for my Ibiza. £1400 was the price. It had a dodgy repair on the rear quarter, car screamed CHECK INJECTION CHECK EMISSIONS, spanner light was on, and clutch bite was super high. Walked away very quickly from that one.

Is it not possible to leave it registered interstate if he has an address he could use?

It was a good day.

It was a long promised 'dad with kids' day. On recommendation from a respected forum member I decided to travel Windemere way. Kids as always choose to take the Volvo for the trip.

We parked up at the Lakeland Motor Museum. Sorry no pictures but I thought it was a nice little place with quite a few worthy exhibits. Kids were in awe of the Amphicar. Told me to get one like that.

Then I traveled on this

And changed later onto this

Beautiful views from the water

And from the land

post-19541-0-65742300-1498417089_thumb.jpg

Great 6 hours of quality time with my great kids, I really should do stuff like that with them more often.

But that's not all!!!

Came back to the car and someone parked that huge American barge next to my Swedish one!!!

So this happened next

Had a lovely chat and some car praising with Eddy. This gent is amazing and also brought me the item on the next photo. Just because he's is the star!

Apologies Eddy that I didn't buy you even a brew but kids were starting to kick off and the museum staff were probably going lock us up in the car park in few minutes.

I'll say this again then. I had a great day and met another amazing forumer.

Not really no. He retired to Cal. and his kids and brother live here too. It's got to be registered here with Cal plates on it..........Fortunately I know a retired restoration guy with a vast knowledge of these trucks and he's agreed to help just for the grin of it.............even after he'd sucked his breath through his teeth and looked upwards.

Whilst out on a run last night, I was passed by a newish Astra police car, nothing remarkable in itself except for the trail of blue smoke and lingering smell of burning oil it left behind it.  It appeared to be heaing back to the station, probably just as well.  Oh dear, it's no good, they'll have to go back to Senators.
