Yesterday SWMBOs Freelander failed its MOT on both front bottom ball joint covers and one antiroll bar drop link dust cover.

Today I snapped a 3/4" to 1/2" reducer trying to undo a front hub nut.  Fortunately I had a spare because a while back I lost one, gave up and replaced it and then found the original.

I think for future use I will get a few more 3/4" drive sockets for things like this.

Couldn't get a dust cover for the anti roll bar drop link, but the motor factor had a whole new drop link in stock for £14 so fitted that.  He did have some dust cover that hit the bottom ball joints well, so that saved drilling out the rivets to swap the whole ball joint.

Whole job took me 7 hours including 2 hours driving around getting parts so 5 hours labour.  I don't think that's too bad for working on the drive without air tools, and having to carry tools from the garage through the house.

Also, I need to sell something to make room for this, potentially:

I wasn't supposed to buy any more cars until I've got the Rancho on the road, but this is about the only thing left on my all-time must-have bucket list.  And it's cheap (possibly for a good reason, but even so).

(If someone could talk me out of this, by the way, I'd appreciate it.)

Edit: Actually Anonymous User already had a pretty good go at talking me out of Gamma Coupes last time, and it didn't work then.  I'd have bought that one if the seller hadn't gone suddenly mental.

WOW how can you not want this!

Break all the rules buy it and worry about the Vauxhall later.

I completed an overtake on the A414 today that I would not have attempted in most of my previous cars. It did it safely and with ease. Saab 9-5's with a stage 3 tune must be the cheapest 4 door performance saloons one can buy.

FFS, just found out my car Insurance went up by £2000!

I should have called up and asked, rather than just letting it renew it's self but expected it to stay the same or go down a bit! (As it has the past few years)

Only changes are I have the Abarth on it & the BMW, which I swapped the Civic off for.

When the hangover wears off a bit I'll be inquiring about it, as that is surely a piss take.

Mother_Peel bought a new Civic 1.4 recently. It actually seems like quite a pleasant car, comfy and doesn't ride like the wheels are square as I'd expected.

However it has a bloody HDMI port and what amounts to an Android tablet in the dash. What is point! My mum won't even use a home computer or smartphone.

Do they know about Bambi?

Nope, was all repaired without getting insurance involved, due to my reason of I could't get Bambi's insurance info and for fear of the insurance going up...

I believe some bodyshops will grass you up to the insurance companies.

I'm going to have to have a find out and see if that is a possibility. If so I see no reason for them to know, or put the policy up due to it being an act of nature having caused it.

When i added the Abarth to the policy back in February it was £500 to add it on, the same price the LS400 cost when added back in early 2015 and the policy just stayed the same price as it was. So was expecting the same if im honest, as it's been that for the past 4 years.

Considering I know people younger than me who've lost there license twice and declare all there mod's on the car and it's not jumped that much, I feel i've been shafted big time.

Or indeed stylish estates (none of which I could find with the spec of the saloon

I now have).

So it turns out, all my insurance policy's have jumped up silly amounts...

The Lexus has gone up £150, the Cappuccino £200.

4 years NCB with them and im a year older....

How does this happen, I though it was meant to get cheaper?

Quite useful for some phones to get your Google Maps on the big screen, since most in-car nav is limited to the apps they give you which vary between awful and really awful. As a bonus, HDMI doesn't let you interact with your phone via the screen so you could argue it's safer than having a phone on the dash.

Having said that, HDMI over USB was only ever adopted by a handful of devices and hardly any new ones do it. I don't think the Honda does MHL which is the standard that took over a few years ago - and these days, everything is done wirelessly. The new Astras my old colleagues have are pretty sweet in getting your navigation app on the big screen.

As for why your mum bought one, who knows? ;) Mind you, my car has loads of features I don't use, like indicators and a rear seat.

Choose your favourite reason from the following list

1. Value of the pound

2. Insurance Tax has increased

3. Uninsured drivers

4. They aren't making enough profit

1-3 are the ones they'll tell you if you ask; 4 is the real one.

Do you still have 14 days to cancel if its an automatic renewal?

Sounds like they have pulled your pants down.

You just let it renew. They got you good, son.

I don't think I've ever got a renewal price that was lower than what I paid the previous year... Every year is a new company, sometimes I go back to the first one a couple of years later when they decide to be competitive!

I have from Direct Line - but only if I've asked them not to auto-renew on policy end. My wife's policy renewal was by far the cheapest I could find. On my policy I forgot to ask to have auto renewal disabled and they put it up £80.

When I said I was going to cancel it and go somewhere else, they offered to require it. Low and behold it dropped quite a bit.

You will have 14days cooling off period, but be aware that most insurance companies charge ridiculous cancellation fees still in that period.

Just spent an enjoyable hour poking around the Favorit and giving it a bit of an interior clean and making a mental list of (non-mechanical) jobs.

First 'issue' there is a water leak and it is coming in through the aftermarket aerial (previously giffer sealed with clear sealant) and dripping through the interior light. I think I will just re-seal for now.

How easy is it to remove the tow bar? I can't obviously see how it is screwed on but seems connected to the bumper.

Update:

The Crappuccino is off the insurance. Netting me back £500.

So the insurance premium's have gone up across the board, I do mind reading that a few months ago. But changing cars often on the policy up's the premium. Also because someone twatted my dad's 406 last November, I've been shafted because of the claim, and his policy is part of my policy.Oh, and it's costing me £1000 to insure the Abarth because all "Moderns are shit"...

Worst part is the price of the BMW, So Think I'll see if Supernaut will be the new provider of Insurance for it.

Oh well, lesson learned.

I saw this tweeted from Surrey Police this morning. Scary, is that the engine from the car up the road in the photo? I wonder what the other car was!

Looks like there was no other car...
