Isn't it just a map as a difference between them? I seem to remember reading it somewhere, done as a way to meet tax thresholds or something.

I seem to recall Volvo did something to stop you just swapping maps. No idea what though.

Sure feels like just a map difference when driving them.

Shame. A robotic-gearbox early 2000s Renault seems a right laugh* to own. I do like French cars with crazy gearboxes.

Have some balls, man! Get a Savvy Auto ;)

when i finished work last night when walking to the carpark i was met with a lad i work with his words were, thank fuck ive seen you, he went on to explain a sound agency lad had left his lights on all day and his battery was dead, several people had told him "you need steve he'll get you sorted" i always carry jump leads and bits in the boot, ive never known jump starting a ronnie pickering to be a spectators sport, i had 3 people stand there in the cold to watch and talk to me while i got the lad sorted, there was jokes that i carry enough stuff with me to rebuild a car etc it made me laugh

I bought a CTEK battery charger and it has bought a totally knackered battery back to life with its Svedish de-sulphating cleverness. It remains to be seen how long this recovery will last, but so far I'm impressed.

The British parts ones are much cheaper aren't they! They will work, but may well not last as long - so if you don't mind doing them more than once if you're keeping the car a while it is quite a saving!

Thanks for all the information.  I ended up buying the Britishparts ones yesterday and will see what they're like.  Not sure the car is a keeper but by the same token I'd rather fit decent parts that won't fail after 6 months or whatever.

My Aldi CTEK copy resurrected the Clios battery-an hours driving after a jump (the thing had sat for months) and the starter just clicked when I tried to start it again. 24 hours on the charger and it's been ok, even on the cold mornings. So far...

Well, the MG ZT love continues. The cooling fan isn't working on the low speed setting when the aircon is enabled. Common problem, so have purchased a Revotec upgraded fan assembly to replace the original unit. Fitting it tomorrow weather permitting.

If there were that many lads around could they not have given him a bump?

Eee, the youth of today, etc.

Brother in law rings earlier

Me " Alright"

Him" No broke down, focus won't start"

Me " You got breakdown cover"

Him"No"

I look fumingly at the Mrs and her look say's please just go help the useless twat.My jump leads are fucked so £6.99 at Aldi later I meet the daft twat and it's starts with a jump but the battery's fucked.

Me " Your battery's fucked"

HIm " Oh, I need it for work"

Me " I can get one with trade discount at Halfords so it'll be £37 for a brand new one instead of £50"

Him , Blank look and shuffle of feet that says, wordlessly " I haven't got a bean"

Me " Just drive home and I'll go and get you one, and don't fucking stall it you daft cunt"

So an hour later it's all fitted spangly new and starting perfectly, I've had no tea, it's freezing,i'm dirty and I'm 45 quid out of pocket.

He's quite happy,

His parting question of " Any chance you can get rid of the old battery cos the binmen won't take it" was met with much joy on my part as i'm sure you can guess.

3rd fucking time this has happened, he's 45 and has better holidays and a better social life than me.

Wife is very grateful as he's a completely useless twat who everyone feels sorry for...even me for some unknown reason

Save the batteries and weigh them in or ask at the scrappy to swap/ part ex them for decent ones.

Mine was the same, so fixed it with some dyson brushes for now. Keep us posted on the upgrade as I'll be doing the same at some point.

Found a super bargain of a car park place in central Bristol. A months permit is £115. So works out as just £5.75 a day to park all day! Not guaranteed a space with the permit, but they limit permits and every times I've ever cycled past, I've always seen free spaces.

Why is £5.75 cheap? Cheapest car park otherwise I've seen is £9 a day and always full. Bus is £4 for a day pass. So £1.75 extra a day (excluding fuel), I can sit on a comfortable heated leather seat in silence and not squashed, coughed over, etc. Best of all it's just a 3 minute walk from my work in central Bristol!

Took the Favorit for a 40 mile round trip for work today. In the pouring rain with the front fogs on down the A roads I stayed completely dry! Popped a tenner of superunleaded in to see if it makes any difference. Verdict, not a lot.

More rattles revealing themselves and managed to just scuff the edge of an alloy parking in up in an unusual street this evening (to avoid neighbourly disapproval). Damn.

Oil and air filter ordered with an ECP 'offer'.

It is just a fun little car.

Edit- the heater is amazing - proper Siberian winter effective!

Does that even work on a properly flat modern?

You need enough power to run the ECU, prime the fuel pump blah blah blah.

I have just been offered this as a leveller for my Calibra...

M3 closure notice!

Re-opening

Please be advised that the M3 motorway will be closed in both directions between junction 2 and 3 for one weekend while Woodlands Lane Bridge is demolished and other works are undertaken:

From: 9pm Friday 18 November 2016 to: 5.30am Monday 21 November 2016 Diversion routes will be clearly marked for

the duration of this closure. Drivers are encouraged to find alternative routes and to avoid the M3 during

this time.

Please note this

closure will be subject to safety

reviews and weather dependant.

* Two consecutive contingency weekend dates are in place for 25-27 November and

2 – 5 December 2016

We understand that diversion and warning signs will be positioned at major road intersections to inform and encourage motorists to use marked alternative routes at an early stage to avoid local congestion.

In addition, resurfacing work with the new quieter road surface will commence at night in lanes one and two between jct 3 & 2 w/c 7th November and is expected to take two weeks to complete subject to weather conditions. Due to the process required to remove the old surface and replace it with the new one some noise may be heard by residents close to the motorway.

I appear to have won a reasonably priced VW T4 on t'bay.  I didn't know such a thing still existed.  Be interesting to see how the sale goes.  If it all goes OK I might even be able to make an OMGPROFIT selling it on to some hipster surfer dude whose parents can't quite afford to buy him a Splittie.

But dealing with such tossers will make you wish you hadn't been born (sadly speaking from experience :-( )

That is unacceptable. You've gone too far this time.

Re-erected an hour after a jump? A good 33 quids worth.

190E seems to be sorted.   CHG replacement and head skim etc. went well enough - subsequent lumpy idle turned out to be an air sensor duly replaced.   I vaguely remembered a "slight corrosion" note on the MOT pass this year so had it up on ramps on Thursday for a scrape and Vactan session.    This will have to be followed up Tuesday with some Dynax action but its all pleasingly solid under there, no missing plugs or covers but I think I will bite the bullet in Spring and have those Sacco covers off........

Managed to escape from the house for a bit. Nipped into town with the roof off. Lovely. Found a spot not suitable for longer vehicles. Lovely.

Spent the morning setting up the new carb on the Transit. This afternoon I've been refilling all my dehumidifier trays with those damp eating crystal things and putting them all in the cars.

I've got two trays in each car, ready for winter. Should keep the insides dry and mould free.

It's f*****g cold outside today though. Horrible! We've had frost the last couple of mornings, this morning last nights rain had even frozen.

Hopefully we'll get a cold snowy winter this year instead of the usual miserable rain shit we've had the last few years.
