It's a tight fit, but it does fit and I can get in and out via the driver's door.  It'd be a lot easier if the door was flush fit rather than pinched in, but I suppose that's the one flaw with an up-and-over type door.

I often drive the fiat up to the garage and then get out and push it in by hand. I have a tennis ball hanging from the roof to touch the windscreen when it's time to stop.

Our old neighbour used to drive his Singer Gazelle into his garage, quite quickly, until it crunched into the stone rear wall. Then he knew it was in far enough to close the door, I don't think a modern would stand up to that

That's the Nippa prepared for its weekend of hurtling around England. Not sure of the route yet, but it'll be off to Leicestercestershire for a few days.

If I ever get a garage, I'm Deffo putting a PC, a Viking shield and at least one hoe in it.

Mike used to be the littlest Viking, he has so many swords and axes and shields and things.  The other stuff is my fault entirely.

I remember my parents very nearly buying one of these, a demonstrator from a dealer in Newcastle.  The salesman was convinced it would fit, and so drove all the way to Durham, drove the car into the garage, then couldn't get out again.

They didn't buy it, and we had an 88 Maestro for another four years as a result.

Wasn't a Saxo Diesel was it??

That was uncalled for. Yes I've had a run of bad luck but I always do try my best to pay attention to the road, junctions etc

That is a rather large bill but worth it in the end hopefully. I saw specialist cars have sold the Turbo R for £7700 with no mention of the oil burning. I was a bit surprised they are having anything more to do with it after the hassle you had.

They replaced the seat and valve in the end. Didn't want anything to do with it but the guy that was supposed to buy it back, didn't! So they were left with the sod and a big bill that no one was keen to pay. I asked tonight on the phone. I don't care, that is still a  lovely car, I wish I'd kept it an bought a new engne, would have been cheaper!

Let's see what the guy says.

It has properly twatted the side and creased rear quarter. Only a car though

It is cat C anyway. So not sure how much I will get for it.

Looks like I have got a replacement sorted already!

Everyone keeps going on about hire cars but when I point out the pitfalls and getting lumbered with the bill they go blank

Can't you just keep it?

With it being LPG sort it with the insurance then just bodge the bumper back on.

If not and it's tested I'll give you £20 for it :-)

Holy moley! That's a huge amount of money. What did you get for that?

I'll update the Brooklands thread later, but, in short:

Engine mounts. Dampers for same.

Rear spring pan and all bushes and mounts.

Thermostat, two sensors for the coolant system.

Steering rack.

Brake pads (£300 alone!), brake pump, accumulators, hydraulic service and flush/bleed.

Boot hinge.

Alarm sorting.

Central door locking sorted.

Compliance bushes... I don't even know what they are!

Horn sorted.

Then the biggy...

All the front suspension! Struts (£1200 each bare plus VAT!) link cables to the ecu (£120 each for a metre of cable and two connectors WTF!?)  springs, pans, covers, bushes mounts, top mounts and the plates they go in on the body  and loads more....

Apparently, when stripped down, the front struts were fucked in grand style - nothing left in them|!

Oh, and they had to fit a couple of new wheel studs/nuts on the passenger side. L/H thread on the N/S and tyre fitters get it wrong all the time.

Oh and loads more I can't remember at the moment - the invoice apparently runs to several pages!

Oh yes...

full service,

gearbox oil change/service,

new key and coding,

Still waiting for the seat ecu to come back from the repairers then it will get fitted - promised to be less than £300 all in! That isn't included in the bill....

Oh yes, also had it waxoyled/dinatroled underneath and in all the arches - rubbed down first as well!

Ive asked them to find me a stereo for the old girl as apparently the head unit is fucked which is why it only works on two speakers... but only when using the cd!

I could go and get it back tomorrow but I don't want to! Sort of scared to go get it (and pay the bill!) . I have never spent that much money on anything repair wise and it seems utterly ridiculous to me. But, I did ask them to go through it and report knowing that anything on the list would drive me mad if I didn't get it fixed - it's a bastard being insane! I don't really want it back until everything is done - don't want to be going back up in a week to get the ecu fitted.

Oh yes, new number plates - Jack Barclays supplied as they were the original dealer!

I was sort of expecting this. But I hoped for less, this is after a pretty decent discount as well, well they stopped counting hours on the small jobs - just charged me two hours for all the waxing/straightening out the jacking points/door locking/alarm problems etc.

I am fucking insane and need locking up!

Depends on buy back. Eddys was silly money but if I can keep salvage for £30 then may be a no brainer.

Only challenge is he hit rear quarter and read wheel pretty hard. Couldn't see if it had bent anything.

His car

I think I will need wing, headlight and potentially front slam panel. Being Mazda parts aren't going to be cheap so will probably end up going through the insurance.

The above 'AA' sticker... I also have one of these on my Rover (even though I'm with the RAC) I actually found the sticker on the floor in town a few days ago, looked clean and recent so I took it and put it in my car. Fits in with the 'AA 20' sticker also in it and adds to that 'I'm 97 years old and this is my car' look.

I love seeing garages being used what they were built for - storing cars. It brings a strange sort of comfort to me. I wish I had a garage nearby to store my daily into. As a kid, myself and old Ma_Sterling lived in a house in the 90s that actually had a garage. It was full of stuff and I hated that her car (a Mk3 G-reg Fiesta) lived outside on the driveway, so through my incentive, instead of playing outside with my mates, I tidied up the garage enough so that the car could fit in there.

hey, Senor Moog, is the front tyre on that Mazda as bald as it looks?

Tis just a bad photo. The headlght messed with the phone camera

More I think about it the more I think he was on the phone. He didn't react when I was obviously in the middle of the roundabout and he didn't apply the brakes.

On a mini roundabout going right guy not paying attention shot on and turned into side of me.

Focus will be written off. Said to him that if he wants to settle for cash that is fine. He said it was his fault then changed his mind.

It is obviously his fault as the front of his car hits the rear of yours so you were further across the junction than him and by logic arrived before him.

Notify the police within 24 hours in case he becomes a knob and starts to blame you.

Any witnesses?

Also look for a factory LPG focus as a replacement to get values to show to the insurance company.

I went through similar two years ago and the woman who hit me blamed me. There were no witnesses but luckily the shop that was next to the accident had cctv pointed at the door and caught the whole thing. I presented the video to her insurance company after two weeks and they instantly accepted fault on her behalf.

Despite being only three months old I have bought Charlie his first toy car.

Obviously he is still too young for it, but when he shows an interest in Adam's cars ( my eldest) I will give it to him.

It had to be a corgi, because it's what I had when I was small.

By way of indoctrination, when I buy any toy cars for nephews, young cousins, empty-christmas-tree etc, it is only models of English or Australian cars that I buy.  Nothing American, European or Japanese.

Yes - I try to do this. It does annoy me slightly when the kids receive hotwheels or whatever that are nothing like a decent model of a car. I'm happy to report that the kids do spend more time playing with the various 2cv and dyane models I've acquired over the years.

You don't need to report it to the police, it's got nothing to do with them. Your insurance should decide who's at fault, it's what you pay them for

All insurance wanted to know was who was at fault. As soon as I said the other party I think they could hear the tills ringing.

Straight on to a 3rd claims handler who spent 10 minutes convincing me I need a replacement car. Apparently its not fair I am put out due to someone else's actions or that I should not have a shiny new car to drive around in for at least a month.

Once I declined politely for the 5th time, they said they cant help me and will close the case and pass it back to the insurers. I would imagine I will now go to the bottom of the to do pile because I am not racking up lovely hire car fees for them!

No point creating costs where none are needed.

More to the point what difference will it make to UK logbook and vin plate kit values , I'd be very surprised if any of these go on the road with SVA or end up on Q plates.
