I've been chatting to the owner of this 1977 Volvo 244 Jubilee. http://www.gumtree.com/p/volvo/1977-volvo-244dl-jubilee-mot-d/1101997849

He's bringing it down to my car meet on Sunday so that i can look at it, He's been offered £350 by some banger racers but doesn't want that to happen but that's the only offer he's had, he was hoping for around £750 but he did say that he'd take a offer so i was thinking of hitting hard at £500.

Am i going mental? Do i really need a ratty 244 project for the summer?. I'm a really sucker for the underdog and saving shiters.

I really like the look of that, at 500 thats a decent buy. Suppose it depends if its cosmetics or more that it needs.

£500 would be ok, He says it owes him £1500, yeah right. I'll take a look and have a think, I fancy a little project for the summer and if it's solid it could be a good base, It's just not quite what i was after.

I reckon the silver paint makes it look far worse than it is in reality, you know how bad silver is for making rust look terminal when it isn't.  I wonder what colour those seats are supposed to be?

Took the Lancia out for the first time today. I've been driving modern (by AS standards) cars for a while so the noise and tinniness takes some getting used to, but it sure puts a smile on your face and is so small I can park it anywhere. Brakes are very spongy and don't inspire confidence, and the pedals clearly weren't designed for someone with size 10 feet as I was having real trouble not hitting two at once. Drove home barefoot which vastly improved things.

Is that even a question that needs asking?! Obviously you should buy it, £1300 is having a laugh but £500 seems like a steal unless it's utterly rotten...

Blue velour it seems, I stripped a Jubilee down and prepped it for a respray years ago and remember it being a pretty nice car under it's ugliness, It has real potential it would seem, shame it's missing it's gold pinstriping.

Ordered a boot liner for the mother's Bini, to stop her using torn-open bin bags as one

While I was looking in the boot I found a 12V socket on one side, not labelled, just a socket with a plastic plug.

There isn't one in the cabin, just a hole with an identical plug where it would be. 12V socket in the cabin is only included as part of smokers pack.

GR2 for twatnav.

Also, there's a USB port! Doesn't recognise iPods - seemingly it's just for flash drives etc. iPod integration exists for them, but the functions of the USB vary with spec.

Moderns eh?

You do get used to them and they will stop it quite well, it's had all new braking components and fluid but even after a thorough bleeding they remained spongy, it's just a feature of the car. One of many.

That Volvo is nice, easily worth £500 I'd say. It doesn't look 'rotten' just a bit scabby in places. My old 244 was white and looked the same, the paint made it look far worse than it really was.

If you go to look at it get under the back, under the rear bumper and check out the very back edge of the boot floor, they often rot out there which spreads up the rear panel. Mine looked ok with the bumper on but from underneath it was pretty bad! When I removed the bumper most of the hidden metalwork fell off with the bumper!

I'd love to have another like that if I had space.

The USB in my BMW is really only useful as a 12v socket, although someone at some point has loaded about 500 songs into the stereo with it . Apparently you can get some sort of gizmo to make your iPod play through the system but it costs loads if you want it to show on the screen properly. The fact I is old and don't have any music in my phone means it's not a problem . Luckily the previous owner was a middle aged bloke( 5 series estate,so no surprise) and I like most of his music.

Old bill had set up shop opposite work today pulling over uninsured drivers.  Within about an hour or so they'd nabbed a barried Mk4 Astra and a barried MG ZR.  Both got the luminous yellow stickers of shame before being carted away by recovery trucks.

Must be getting near the end of the tax year then...

I don't mind the Police doing this, (assuming the comp records are correct).

one of these came in to the business park this morning (we have Virginia water car movers on site now).

Found a photo, but still no idea what it is apart from Mercedes badge.

More on the Bini boot, the liner is now here.

But the handle/button on the bootlid is now broken and the boot only opens with the the keyfob button. Thank fuck for the fob - the lever to fold down the rear seats in in the boot as well, so it's otherwise inaccessible. The mother won't/can't/refuses to admit that it's broken and insists it just 'won't open' - she's already somewhat attached. As part of her denial we had a read through the handbook and looked all through the menu system - couldn't find anything to appease her.

We've had it 5 days and it's already going back to the dealer under warranty, luckily we'll be passing by tomorrow.

SLS Roadster I think, Richard.

It's an SLR McLaren Stirling Moss. I only know this because I saw one in an advert in that glossy porn mag known as Octane. The one advertised is in Japan and a 2009, price is as you'd expect on application .

Caution this dealers site will make you want to buy a Euromillions ticket.

IIRC when I used to use the Merc forum sometimes someone on there had a damaged SLR, it wanted a £20k bonnet, £7k windscreen and a £7k drivers door seal. Cat D SLR anyone?

Buy it, weld the back doors up and it will have a "private" plate

Welcome to the world of Bini, Ghosty.

My sister's last one suffered the same issue - no lighter socket. She manged to kill the USB socket, by plugging four hundred things into it at once, and had to resort to a really long cable threaded through.

Supposedly, the boot socket is for portable tyre inflators and cool boxes and so on.

Took the 106 for MOT todqay, it failed on the front left wheelbearing being rough and headlight aim being out.  It'll be getting sorted this week and re-tested on Sunday.

It was Ford shite day today in south Birmingham. I saw both a Probe and a Scorpio, plus I followed a very low slung fruity sounding early MX5 with a bit more go than standard.

I watched with some biblical awe today as a shitted up matt black capri - absolutely pissed on the candles of an owners Beemer Z4 at the lights - what ever the capri had under the bonnet it sounded like God having a cum moment

I want that capri

Another Autoshiter down! Sounds like Prab had a nasty one in that delicious Renault 9 last night. I'm sure he'll be along with the details when he's good and ready, but I'm very pleased that he apparently walked away. Hope this isn't becoming the year for it.

In rather milder news, I'm not convinced tomorrow's 2CV roadtrip is going to happen. The idea of driving a 2CV 250 miles in one day just isn't appealing at the moment due to horrific weather and illness. To be honest, I'm not entirely sure I'm up to doing it in the XM either at the moment.

Bloody hell, it has been a bad run of late hasn't it? Glad to hear Prab walked away however.

Bloody hell. Not another one? Glad he's walked away from it.

Rule of three means another accident to follow. Everything happens in threes, or so it seems to me. Or is it just to me?

BX in for MoT today. Gulp.

Not another crash, this forum isn't what it used to be, i hope he's not too bad, cars can be replaced but people can't
