I'm not sure which model it was, but a very nice yellow fiat (the ones the skoda was based on - 128?) passed me this morning on the way into work. Made up for the idiot in the Peugeot estate who didn't tick the indicator box on the accessory list.

Skoda? Yugo Shirley.

You must be like pig in shit at the moment Pete, and deservedly so, it looks fab!

I've spend the day working on the Merc, spent the morning cleaning all the interior, it looks much cleaner and fresh smelling now. After that I stopped of at a key cutters and got a spare set of keys cut.

Then I went to my dad's house, pressure washed the engine bay down, serviced it, flushed the coolant out although I think it needs a new stat as it's running quite hot and then finished the day buy fixing the mess that was the old stereo.

I'm amazed that it even worked as the last owner bodged wires up, bare live wires were hanging out and the electric aerial wasn't connect, so stripped it all down and started again, fitted my alpine stereo and now it works perfect and the e/aerial work. I love this car!

Boring news - did oil change on the Daily Leon today. I use a Pela pump and it saves so much arsing about under the car. It seems to get virtually all the oil out too as I measured out 4 litres of old oil (capacity = 4l). The filter traditionally puts up a fight but it came straight off no problem this time.

After 60k it doesn't seem to be using any oil between changes so my 6000mile regime seems to be working out alright. Used my last bottle of Halfords 5w40 synthetic which I got for nine quid on Boxing Day in a special with six quids worth of Mahle filter. Nearly bought some Castrol Edge in Costco for 30 quid but as I do changes every six months or so there is no point in buying oil that is supposed to last 18000 miles

Seat would have relieved me of about 90 quid for that AND used oil that doesn't meet the spec they insist you use. So saved 75 quid and did the whole lot (including cleaning up) in forty minutes.

Plugs next - should be easy but VW helpfully route the inlet manifold over the top of the plugs. Two are easy, one a bit fiddly but number three looks a pig so might need to buy a UJ for the socket set and hope I can get enough torque on it. Do we think the garage put any copaslip on the plugs when they changed them four years ago? PLACE BETS NOW!

Hmm, you appear to have purchased a car someone would post in the ebay tat thread, and then a few people would say "omg wot is tht m9".

I genuinely have no idea what that is so I'm going to ask omg wot is that m9.

Edit - It appears my original theory is flawed as I appear to have omitted the fact that it tells you on ebay listings what the car is.

Fleet news:

Gt6 now classed as a historic vehicle and has its first tax disc since January 1980!

post-4673-0-18632300-1407315443_thumb.jpg

Meanwhile the felicia has blotted it's copy book already ( what was it they used to say about why a skoda had a heated rear window.....) by failing to start yesterday morning. I hurriedly swapped batteries about and it's been fine since! Duff battery or did I leave a light on or something? Haven't investigated properly yet.

It's an Eagle SS, they started off as a nova copy on a VW floorpan, but Eagle made 300 or so on their own chassis with ford running gear. It follows the same basic dimensions and outline of the VW floorpan, so I figure I can cobble my spare beetle shell onto it, and make a bug that is actually useable every day. It saves me a load of work and IVA hell as it's actually registered on a Q and has a V5 :)

I'm thinking either an MX5 engine and box, or if I can find one at the right money Honda S2000. It'll be a long term thing but I can build my ultimate car :)

Press release, received from some twat this morning.

James Hind (founder of the new car buying platform www.carwow.co.uk) made the following comment:

“To see that new car registrations have now risen for the 29th consecutive month - by 6.6% in July – is hugely encouraging. Excellent finance deals are making brand new cars affordable to all and the luxury of driving a new vehicle off the showroom floor is within reach for more people. People don’t want the worry of buying a second hand vehicle and wondering what will go wrong with it and how soon, so if the option is there to buy a new car then it’s clear to see why so many people are going for it."

The other week we went to a bbq at swmbo's sister, and I got pissed and left the ZX at hers. When we went back to get it the next day she said the lights had been flashing and a little pip was sounding randomly from somewhere.

Thought no more of it, the PO said the alarm battery had gone flat so he unplugged it all and it was fine...

Coming out this morning, the headlights were flashing every second, in time with what I imagine would be the alarm sound, the red light by the clock wasnt flashing like mad though (it did it on the way home once, I imagined the alarm would be going off if it existed)

Anything I need to remove to stop it doing this? How intertwined would the alarm system be on an L reg ZX? Not fussed it it hasnt got an alarm at all, sometimes I dont even bother to lock it!
