It's taken me damned near a month but I'm finally just fresh fluids away from first start on the Princess after the Christmas Day OMGHGF.  Once I know she's working properly again I can switch attention to getting the van MoT'd.

Got bored at work and went out to fit the new alternator bracket and alternator to the Oxford.

All going well until the new bracket will need some filing to line up with the holes in the block.

Good news is it looks like it will all work!

Just to add to my earlier post, the doofleshanker no longer wanted to sense the oxygen in the E46. Car also went into limp mode.

At least thats an easy fix and the gearbox still works perfectly.

Rear spring on our megane Ⅱ broke, so I bought and fitted new springs and dampers, and on the road test, the springs are making a funny boing/rubbing noise....
Check to see if i fitted them correctly and got the correct ones, and nope, I fitted mk3 rear springs, which have a wider diameter to them.
I now regret spraying underbody waxoyl over everything.28da40371e281b7319efe8b6534e74f1.jpg

Ampera update: I had a call on Wednesday from Autodoc (the accident repair place on Whiffler Road, not the online parts supplier) asking me to take photos of the damage and email them across, which I duly did.  Nothing heard back, then today I got a text from the claim management people saying the repair has now been assigned to RC Coatings in Yarmouth.  They rang me earlier and I've got to run the car down to them on Monday lunchtime for them to assess the damage.

So a bit of a waste of time, but hey ho.

Its so annoying to be messed about and have your time wasted by insurance companies who always seem to do things very weirdly

There's a very nice fish and chip shop on the seafront, The Corner, nearly opposite the Ferris Wheel.

I suppose there has to be something nice in Yarmouth...

You snob!

I think that it's got better over the the years, we had 'artisan' cakes in a very nice cafe there last summer.

Day 1 of my MIG Welding course last night, absolutely loved it. We were only welding strings on thick plate for the inaugural class so it was very easy but it was immensely satisfying. We got about 2 hours out of 3 on the tools and they were the quickest of my life.

The workshops are in the bowels of the college and are bare brick and cement, just like being back at school! I loved the noise of it all and it was sweaty work.

At the initial hour talk about health and safety and instructions on how to set up the welder, the lecturer asked us what brought us to the class. All 12 of us looked at each other and said "old cars".

I can't wait until I can go back again next week.

Marina and Cortina trump stabbed young mum in headlines, Nokia takes 1/3rd page for advertising. Looking at the cars, l would have placed that page early 90's at best not 2006. Stabbing twat sentenced to 12 years 2007 ffs.

I did an evening course, bodywork ,when I lived in WGC, at the local college.

It was brilliant, they were happy for us to take our own vehicles in and use college stuff to work on them.

And the lecturer was a massive character, very knowledgeable, I watched a demonstration of leadloading a wing, which he talked about the whole time he was doing it, 20 minutes and you couldn't see the joint unless you looked really closely when he'd done.

Absolutely brilliant.

Shame there's nothing like that where I live now 😕

Interesting few days. I've caught a cold again after dropping off my Jag for some work. Every time I go to this new garage reccomended to me by @red5 I seem to catch a cold. My fault as it is still rather cold and the industrial estate is about a mile from the town where I have to catch the bus home. Next time I'll have a taxi waiting for me outside.

Anyway, the Jag has been making a scraping noise from the rear wheel area. Nothing amiss was found and the car his it well as it doesn't always make itself known when first starting. I did have the front anti-roll bar links changed as they were heavily worn, but still the noise remains. I took one of the mechanics out to show him the noise the Jag is making, we think it's now something to do with the inner rear brake, something has come loose so I'm expecting another bill soon.

The Vectra is in for its MoT next week so again, more car spendage will be happening.

In terms of my journeys today, things went oddly right; I started out wanting to go into town but not using the Vectra because if the Jag was ready, I could straight there instead of using the Vectra, possibly losing my parking space, then going home and having to make way over which would have added time.

As I was waiting for a bus, an old mate was passing and offered me a lift into town, I did what I needed to do and as I was walking back into town, the garage phoned me and told me the Jag was ready for collection, I called to book a taxi which was exactly across the road from me and flashed his lights to let me know he was there! Within 10 mins I was at the Jag again, but as above, the noise still persists.

The amassing of parts for the 205’s MoT has begun. I have bottom arms, clutch cable and a driveshaft. Pair of front steering knuckles and pair of NOS (apparently) callipers have been ordered from a 205 breaker on eBay. Need a pair of front springs as O/S/F has a lean so and that side is clonking so I’m guessing this is down to broken spring. I’ll get someone with better equipment sort the front bearings out as my torque wrench doesn’t go high enough

Cold out, this morning but heat soak from the engine is suprisingly good at warming the cabin for a trip to town…

One for 90s Touring Car Fans....

https://www.supertouringpower.com/

I've been to this the last two years and its really good but the best part is , if you book into the pre 2000 classic car show display you get free entrance to the event, for either or even both days.  The car show bit is pretty decent on its own let alone the classic racing and display cars.   Some pictures of last year's show as temptation

28/29th June. You have to book in your car and wait for approval but last year I mailed them a week before to change from the Panda to the XM and they weren't bothered so long as its pre 2000

This arrived the other day -

20250131_222800.thumb.jpg.a00b2ca8e99c6092b4c84a451c54b969.jpg

It not new. But hardly used. Still has the silica gel in the box. I paid roughly what a brand new artidiag 900 bt would cost. Hopefully it will last a few years.
