It's so nice to see one of these in a nice color and not the usal gray and black.

I seem to have accidentally got one with the same paint code as my friend's P2!

I got bored of the internet for a moment, so decided to do something useful.

Before:

The difference?

Magical place to keep cups of overpriced coffee!

Looks like this Scimitar was lucky to survive the riot in Southport yesterday.

Car interiors can be absolutely disgusting places...

No detergent, just 4l of water run through a vax on two front seats and the driver's side carpet.

Absolutely black water, with about an egg-cup full of mud/sludge at the bottom.

Ewwwww.

Carpet juice, an aquired taste. The sediment dried resembles a truffle.

I’m pleased but it’s an awful situation the residents have been subjected to.

Great weather means daily duties for the 2CV

IMG_6323.jpeg.191cfafaf7d029b920d00f54af666b56.jpeg

Food shopping
Nursery runs
Kids to the dentist
Days out
Errands
Car show

In fact the only journey not made by 2CV this week was dropping the grumpy teenager at his mates house as he hates being seen in it!

Anyway… one big job missing is Tip Run. Maybe I’ll do that tomorrow.

Tell him he can walk then.

I went out for another drive this evening. Just a simple potter around.

I've noticed it stutters and feels a slight misfire when turning hard out of junctions and such. No idea what's doing that? Presumably electrical as it comes and goes pretty quickly.

Float levels? What seems electrical is often fuel and vice versa.

Float levels?

It did cross my mind but I wouldn't expect it to come and go quickly?

It would only take a second of hard cornering to change the fuel level to ok to bad to ok again?

Try a hard acceleration in a straight line, see if it’s ok then?

Yeah absolutely fine - it's my usual driving style in it 😄

Only when cornering out of a junction and from a stop. Not sure if it's a loose connection somewhere.

Likely, but how new is the fuel filter?

A year old or so. Looks absolutely fine inside.

Been to Stoke to buy a flywheel.

On the way back, I saw something on a driveway that made me do a double take.

there are three on HML, two are known, and it’s neither of them to my knowledge.

A two tone Daihatsu fucking Applause

Found it on Street View:

Might not have moved for a bit - HML show three being taxed, which would make this a fourth?

That was on Pistonheads’ instagram today, a one-off respray in a Mercedes green metallic. I didn’t know, but they’re either silver or black from the factory apparently.

(Edit: scratch that, the ph car has other wheels and is a greenier green)

I think that's finally game over for the ML...

May be an image of text

...after 19 months of ownership. It doesn't owe me a penny, in fairness, and despite it's visible/audible shortcomings, it's been a brilliant car. Obvs I'll have to use that £15's worth of petrol I put in  this morning first, and maybe just run the thing round until it expires/the MOT runs out (September).  I've towed a good few things with, KfW has towed a good few things with it and yesterday was the first time it's ever thrown a warning light up, for low coolant. Can't ever recall spending a single penny on the thing except for fuel, so it's not done bad at all. It was actually due to be dropped off at the garage for a pre-MOT check and once over as a couple of people wanted to buy it, so it's done me and them a favour in a weird way.

The pisser is that it's my only spare car and I'll have to replace it with another smoker for pushbike collecting/knocking about round the doors. I'll also 100% buy another petrol ML again in the future, hopefully a 370 again though next time.

This was a dark green, but not sure if metallic?

In other news this was a complete pain to fit. The space for the radio has no spare room for additional wires or connectors.  Stabbed myself twice and scraped knuckles.  There was also a scotchlock (boo) which must be something to do with the radio or moss alarm - all in there from the dealer. I used a tube terminal to add the wire to the replacement clock.

Talking of microcars, I commuted in to work in the Innocenti today, for the first time in a very long while.  My expert* repair to the speedo cable has worked (on the second attempt - I didn't use enough glue first time around and had to redo it) so I could see how slowly I was going, which was useful.  It behaved fine, other than the brake warning light flashing round corners - but that's going to be a "feature" for the foreseeable, when the brake master cylinder died I had to fit an Austin Mini replacement as there were no Innocenti ones available, the Austin one fits but sits at a slightly different angle which buggers up the fluid level sensor.

It's definitely more capable on the dual carriageway than the Visa, despite having 5bhp less - it sat happily enough at 70, although it took a while to get there - bit of a contrast to yesterday's blat home in the Merc.

Sign of the times I guess. 😢

Moss Manchester closed last year or the year before. I've noticed that Moss Bradford is closed now too.

Apart from no doubt staff job losses, I'm gutted as it's really handy having so many parts readily available same day for my classics. Presumably too much competition online (Moss usually more expensive too) and a sign of a slowing/dieing market.

I mean on the Shite for Sale forum you've got half of Autoshite (myself included) finding reasons why they can't take on a £500 Singer Gazelle estate, so shops that are relying on normal people for their business model don't have a hope.
