Opened the boot of the Peugeot yesterday afternoon for the first time in the 5 or so years I've owned it.. I think the phrase I'm looking for is Giffer Jackpot, and included several unrelated chunks of  Moskvitch and some of the front page of a Daily Mail from 1964 with a story they'd still cover today but very probably from a different angle. Not quite the bonanza provided by Angrydicky with his new Hampshire but I love a car boot lucky dip..

Also, what's this? Sort of looks like a socket for a trailer but I'm happy to be wrong.

That looks like a standard 7-pin trailer socket, although I'm not sure whether the cover over the back is factory...

That is a walk through history, that is. Especially the broadsheet Daily Wail, which didn't go tabloid until several years later. (The Times in this era still didn't have any headlines on its front cover, which it filled with adverts instead.)

Do any of the Castrol/Bardahl/Girling tins still have some of their contents in them?

Posted

The Bardahl and Girling tins have never been opened, annoyingly the Castrollo is empty. Not that it matters really, it's all going to end up on a shelf in the shed. I can't remember what paper it was from and I'm currently undergoing the tedium of the weekend shop, but have a look at this from 1960. Definitely didn't conjure up a mental image of the secretary, absolutely not, no...

(Tight sweater, pointy tits.. Shirley Eaton or Liz Fraser I reckon.)

I seem to have missed a bit, what sort/age of Peugeot is that?

Yup.  Same on a Peugeot for reference

Fuck me, this forum is looking more and more like Twitter every day.  Really don't blame Bo11ox for sacking it off.

One of the reasons I don't comment very often anymore. All a bit tedious.

Had some good news last night, might not be long before I am back on National Express. We get a couple of trips back in about a fortnights time and I am next in line for the refresher training to go back on it when we get some more work.

That's a 12S rather than a 12N socket, (white one rather than the black one) so is the one for the caravan power.  Also has reversing lights and a few other functions in it.  Compare it to the photo of the 12N that Loserone posted up and the difference should be obvious.

All now superceeded by the 13-pin euro plug, which is actually a lot better than 12N/12S.

Nice to see snake oil is nothing new. This looks like the Slick 50 of its day. Not that I am suggesting Slick 50 is snake oil your honour but I didn't think things like that went back that far.

Bardahl used to advertise heavily in motor racing. Think they sponsored Emerson Fittipaldi in the early part of his career.

I just googled them, still going and based in Seattle. Never heard of them but obviously bigger in the US.

...and Latin America. If you look at old racing photos from the 1960s and 1970s - especially  Brazil - there's loads of Bardahl adverts and sponsorship

Father took the BX for a spin and likes it, so that's good. However, it kept cutting out at stops if there wasn't any choke applied. I think some tuning might be in order tomorrow if the drive to the unit is a repeat of just now.

My dad informs me that when he took the fiat out yesterday for a 20mile trip to chester and back on the dual carriageway that there was a puddle of coolant on the garage floor. NSF :-(

its obviously lost some as he said it had a couple of inches in the reservoir, and I always keep it to max. My guess is a hose clamp is loose ( they’re the really annoying Italian spring clip things ) or the rad is leaking. Easy enough if I can go up and see - but wales is still saying NO to cross border travel.

If you mix some of this brake fluid into your lawnmower’s petrol, the exhaust smells of Castrol-R.

Still looking at wiring diagrams for the van, seems I'm missing a live somewhere...

Edit; full diagram attached for anyone who fancies having a look, item 1304 seems to be missing a live, the one responsible for turning the ECU on with the ignition. Thanks.
