This is the one they wanted to give me for the same rate:20200613_121052.thumb.jpg.ec9a15ea94768d91466a44db31e88fc1.jpg

That's generous, but I haven't driven a LWB van since 1992. Fortunately a mother and daughter walked in, needing a big van, so I passed it to them.

Enterprise dug this one out of the back:

Much more like it. It has a small dent on the n/s/r wheelarch, and a three-quarter tank of fuel. Should be grand for the trip south.

Garage looking good, how good are the shelves and bench?

Very little metal for your money and bit shoogly when empty but now that I have loaded the bottom ones with heavy stuff they feel solid.

The worktop is just laid in so I need to find a way of attaching it properly before fitting a vice.

Socially distanced photo in motorway services. Yes I know it's less than 15 minutes from my house but I needed a pee.

I used it to go shopping at Lidl, what would Hayacinth Bucket have thought.

It's definitely not a car for doing a bank job, apart from the leisurely progress it is rather conspicuous. I feel that I need to wear a tie to drive it. (Not just a tie, that would be unpleasant)

I think the speedometer is under-reading as it wasn't showing 30mph but set off a 30mph sign. I shall have to check it against something else.

The kickdown on the box is quite amusing it does work but in a "are you really sure you want to do that" way and if you ease off fractionally changes back up as if to say "No, I didn't think so"

I'm delighted with it.

I've had to do car juggling again when I got home, so it's at the back again  the Mx5 is in front and the Kia in front of that.

Never thought I’d find myself missing Sarn services.

See? Legit D Turbo.

Looking at the spec of it (metallic(?) paint, sports steering wheel, sports seats, GTI front bumper, driving lights, full size leccy sunroof, central locking) only backs it up, it's basically a moredoor STDT.
Cash withdrawn, train tickets booked, I'm doing my packing, it's almost collection time.

In other news there was a hit and run outside work today, where a van pulled out of a parking space without looking and slammed an A-Class into a Jazz belonging to the motorbike mechanic next door, before fucking off with a flat tyre. A-Class now needs a new nose, and Jazz a couple of doors... C30 was safe, luckily.

Must have been the day for dangerous drivers. Leaving work yesterday a bmw  pulled out of the lane on my left a little close for comfort, then the other bmw following it also pulled out on me - queue full emergency stop and swerve onto the verge whilst blowing up one of the twin tone horns. Abs did it’s job though. Half a mile further along the same road some dozy oap in a fiat 500 pulled out from their drive on my right straight in front - slammed the brakes on and overtook. Must have pressed the Klingon cloaking shield button!

It has been many years since I last drove through the West End and South London. I'd like to report that today's journey was complete insanity, with cyclists taking all kinds of random paths.

Still, we're here in Gipsy Hill, at modest fuel consumption rate, and waiting for the fella to turn up to show the Aladdin's Cave of CX parts.

New car arrived today, needs some work to get it back on the road but rather happy to have picked up an EG5 without a ton of shite mods on it!

Wowzers! Haven't seen a clean 90s Civic in ages!

Had that before with Hertz - they delivered a Ford Kuga to my work instead of a Transit Connect

They changed it out pretty quickly when I told them I’d be using it like a van regardless

Presumably the motorway service ones are open mostly for the poor bloody hauliers, to reduce the number of bottles of Lorry drivers' Tizer being lobbed out of windows

I went on a socially-distanced voyage to my local scrappers today and BUGGER ME IF THIS WAS HERE.

Mk2 Saloon, 1.8 GLX FLAVA. January 1998 registered. As far as I know, one owner from new - he bought it off the company he worked for.

I don’t think this engine has seen past 3000 RPM. The oil was golden. This would be a superb engine and box for anyone who needs one.

CHECKLIST:

Giffer-owned? Yep.

Every tax disc from new? Yep.

A fully-stamped service book, all at the same main Ford dealer, and all the bumpf including original delivery note? Yeppity Yep.

Double/treble matting in the footwells? Roger that.

An old 1980 Road Atlas shoved in the seat pocket? We’ve got you, we‘ve got you.

I had to get that. Scrapyard feller let me have it.

@egg and @Slowsilver and any other Mk2 lickers need any parts? There are a few interchangeable Mk2 to Mk1 bits aren’t there? ABS pump is there but I feel it may be a completely different system.

Well the offer is there....

...nope just the atlas. The Mondeo has already been commissioned to death by means of Certificate of Destruction.

Just got in from collecting a burgundy Renault with six cylinders.

Not bad eh? Admittedly I didn't thrash it, and had the cruise on more or less the entire way. I did make haste out of roundabouts and traffic lights on the A43 just to stay entertained. All good.

It turns out that the garage in Gipsy Hill had rather more leftover CX parts than I thought.

One box full of Pallas headrests in herringbone cloth, door cards and cappings, chrome trim, sun visors and God knows what else.

Another box filled with instrumentation, identical to what my CX has, including what looks like an intact 3xLCD display. Spare tail light units.

One brand new ignition coil. One hydraulic pump. Service history book (I've been on the lookout for this for ages).

Four of the correct 14" alloys with almost new tyres on them. Wasn't expecting those.

I'm just after lugging the whole lot back. Think I might have damaged my lower back. But it was worth it.

Liked but not for the sore back

The tyres have turned out to be Chinese-made "Runway". More like Runaway. Think I'll bin those, even though the treads look to have done only a couple of hundred miles. I'd have kept them if they were Falkens or Nexens.
