I recognise that place. It’s near me In windlesham, Surrey,  the neighbour has an Aston Martin lagonda reg no v10 I think.

Edit, sorry I didn’t realise it was the blue wedge underneath.

I can can assist with collection if anyone wants it. It is probably 2miles from me. Sadly I cannot buy or store it.

With the lovely weather the last few days, I've pulled out the Boxster after putting the MGB away for some last of the warm weather fun. Top mounts definitely need replacing very soon now. Not binding up hard but pretty noisy.

Went to Newbury Show. Was alright, but not quite as good as I expected.

Bought this outside light though. Reclaimed from an old boat. Properly heavy duty and well built thing. 85 quid - didn't think it was too bad and I'm happy with it. No doubt making a good margin on it and more expensive than the absolute junk B&Q sells but a lot cheaper than John Lewis stuff which still isn't likely as well built.

Nice run out on the Scomadi today, only about 15 miles or so, but the weather was ace and had an ice cream in sunny Cheshire. Came home and my mate managed to fix the Lambretta, it wouldn't start the other day after a run out. Turns out the kill switch 'thing' on the handlebars had earthed out! Chop still in garage as sort of forgot to tell my missus I'd bought it. When I went out on it yesterday, I had to turn the CCTV off the computer screen (in case she got up early and saw it) and push the bike down the road to start it so it didn't wake her up as she'd been on nights.

Well whoop whoop, the hose I ordered from Amazon about a month ago finally turned up today. Not opened the pachage as I am too scared to see what utter rubbish I have bought. Also, the box of stainless nuts and bolts I bought for Kyle yesterday (expected delivery Wednesday next week) were delivered this morning so I am informed via e-mail, not heard a word from the lad so he's either busy bolting random stuff together or trying to work out who has sent him a jumbo collection of nuts and bolts without telling him!

It was me lad.

OK, daft question: why do Scottish motorways have speed limit signs that say 70, rather than the NSL sign used in the rest of the UK?

Because it makes more sense.

After seeing them I thought, why don't we have speed limit signs south of the border?

I wasn't aware Scotland was different? My understanding is that NSL = 70 on a Dual Carriageway but an actual denotation of 70mph is only used when motorway regulations apply?

I had never noticed anything different in England but every day is a school day!

I might well be wrong here, but i think it's usually done like that up here when there's varying speed limits on a specific stretch of road. (it certainly seems like that around me where it's like that on dual carriageways an Mways, if you see a specific 70 sign, it usually seems to mean there's a drop to 50 ahead or vice versa, you've just come out of a 40 or 50... i can't think of one that goes from 50 to showing NSL mid way along that stretch, it always shows 70), When the NSL sign is used, it always seems to be at the start of a new stretch and it's that all the way on that stretch to the next junction/roundabout. If the 70 is displayed at the start of a new stretch of road, it probably drops to 50 at some point before the next junction.

A lot of that is just guessing though ?

Cheers, I’ll try the bypass first. I barely use it let alone use it on a track!!

So I tried the (apparently oh so easy according to my mx5 owning mate) by pass. Just undo the clips and reroute the rubber hoses said the interweb.

7DE17E45-6C04-416F-ADCD-FEADBC2BA292.jpeg

Turns out the whole pipe is solid.  No rubber, no clips. Erm... ok.

I’ll use pipe repair tape to do a temp repair so I can do the MX5 meet tomorrow.

Oh no... the hateful car has other ideas...

Having brushed the corrosion away to put the repair around I’ve made th leak worse and now it’s properly pissing everywhere despite the tape. It will absolutely not be going to the show, and has been parked back in the naughty corner.

Great. If I can’t even do that simple little job properly this Yugo restoration is going to go well!!

I’ve never seen a 70 sign in England, only in Scotland.  Not to say there aren’t any of course.

I repaired the Clio 172 today.

2 discs provided by Tickman of this parish - a top bloke.

First up was stripping off the old discs and seeing what the spacers were like..

Pullers are useful things

Can you see where it's failed and started rubbing against the stub axle?

They are fitted with the chamfered edge facing in to the car

All tightened back up, we took it a run to Halfords, where I spent £79 on a torque wrench - these bearings like exactly 175nm.

All nipped up and a test drive revealed silent running.

Once home, I jacked it up and both wheels span freely.

You will notice frequent 70mph signs if you ever drive through Glasgow on the motorway. Between Paisley and Renfrew the limit fluctuates between 50, 60 and 70 mph.

This was the offside. Nearside wasn't nearly as bad.

The GT86 is going in for it's valve spring recall tomorrow. Comedy small courtesy car for the week no doubt.

I'm just hoping  that it all goes well. Having read of people's engines going pop after the recall I am slightly worried.

Too much instant gasket goop that blocks oil galleries/strainers apparently.

In other North Westerly car show news I went to the Bodrhyddan Hall Classic car show. Run by the same people as Chumley, but sadly instead of our old mate Les there was a guy who sounded slightly like he belonged in the Wurzels!

Unlike Chumley I got interviewed on the mic when I took Daisy into the ring. We didn’t win though...

Have some piccies

In 30 years working on mobile plant the only 2 broken cranks I've seen had mastic type gloop on the strainer in one and in the the other in a gallery. Neither had been done where i work I'd like to add!

It's been two months since I dropped the Princess head off with machine shop #2 to insert a coolant pipe in place of the waxstat housing.  Not a difficult job, as these things go.  Tomorrow I'll be going in to see if any progress has been made, as I have several times before.  I'm expect excuses and no actual progress, as with every other week I've been.  I'm not angry, I'm just disappointed.

Drove this around the Worcestershire countryside yesterday for an hour in the glorious sunshine. It was amazing fun, much more so than I expected for an old BL car! Oldest car I've driven!
