fair play he sacked it off as discovery are a bunch of money grabbing shite hawks

They were some proper cuts in that video, but fair play to China, I doubt he will do badly in life!

Is that an "I'm a prick" mug at the front?

My missus is amused because she's been sure that Mike kept Ed locked in the workshop. He seems to allude to being free at the end. Sad really, it's been a cry for help all these years but no one has rescued him.

Remember this old heap?  http://autoshite.com/topic/20288-1964-lancia-flavia-coup%C3%83%C2%A9/

20150509-08.jpg

I noticed my browsing habits getting worrying close to me trying to actually find something I want to buy to replace the Renault when it sells.  Realistically, a downsize is absolutely vital if I'm to keep the Rover and Princess in the sort of condition I want to, not to mention my finances and stress levels.  Having a third car as a project is a very bad idea, as much as we might joke about fleet reduction, and I needed to address this before I did something very silly and went out and bought some hopeless old crock to waste my life on.  Selling the Renault is a sensible thing to do, it really is.

So why the Lancia?  Poor old thing has been moved from pillar to post while Mike and I tried to find the time around other commitments to do anything with it.  With the amount of work I've had to do on my own cars and Mike's obligations at the garage it just wasn't happening and it's sat almost entirely untouched since August 2015.  The work to do looks scarier than it is, in reality, something I learned from the repair work on the Princess.  Construction is fairly simple for the most part so restoration is much easier.

To stop me doing something monumentally stupid and acquiring another project I don't really need, instead I'll help Mike with this one and sort-of-adopt it.  I get my fix of sorting out an old car, Mike gets some free labour and the Lancia, hopefully, gets a proper chance to survive.  It's one of those cars that looks much worse than it really is, just been afflicted with some questionable repairs and excessive filler.  A few hours now and then would really get through a lot of the problem areas on it quite rapidly.

Another series I won't be watching any more! He made wheeler dealers in my opinion.

This slightly green Rover 45 belongs to a colleague and has been sat in a local garage's yard for most of the last year.  MOT has just run out, looks very tidy and had just had the head gasket done - only 56k on the clock, too.  1.4 K series, new front tyres.  Apparently, after the head gasket was changed the engine started 'knocking' and he gave up on it, dumped it at the garage and obtained another car.  I'm tempted to make a slightly insulting offer for it but it depends what the 'knocking' is - I find it hard to believe it could be the bottom end at that mileage unless it had so much coolant in the oil it's knackered the engine.  I'd like to think it was injector noise which these are apparently known for but who knows.

I might see what he wants for it and stick a battery on it so I can hear the noise myself, could be worth a punt although these things still seem pretty worthless.

On the other hand, it's currently keeping exceptionally shitey company.

As I'm looking for a cheap runaround with 5 doors to replace the Puma, enquiries are in progress...

The sun came out, and I'd had enough of being sat at my desk (having been working since 8am). So, I went for a drive! Battery was dead, and the brakes were seized up due to rust - was wet last time she was out! Started on the handle straight away thankfully.

Must get around to buying a new battery. This time next week, though, we'll probably both be at the NEC, setting up the 2CVGB stand. Feel free to come and laugh at the horrible, unpainted wheels, missing side stripes and bootlid and rear wings that still need painting to match the fronts.

Still searching for heated mirror glasses for the 200 - Rimmers have them but a pair will cost me going on for £90. No breaker seems to have them either, which is annoying.

Worth any number of Deutsche Marques?

The CR-V wasn't as bad to drive as expected, it's just the passenger seat that's rock solid and terrible for bad backs. Driver's is OK, not ideal but decent enough I suppose. It actually goes OK, steering is decent, and it doesn't feel big. My only issues from a driver's perspective are the abysmal MPGs (to be expected of a 2.0 pez in something Disco sized), and the brakes. Pedal felt OK, but it didn't seem to actually stop the car. Not sure how to describe it, but there was no real sense of urgency, and you really had to ask yourself 'is it stopping?'.

Rear passenger comfort is OK, but the rear suspension really throws you around.

None of the seats actually hold you in place, and on the twisty bits you get thrown all over the place, the leather is really slidey.

If you've got normal mirrors you could stick heating pads on the back of the glass if its practical. These would do:

I have one spare manual mirror at the moment. I'm going to keep looking - it's annoying as the mirrors work 100%, but the driver's glass has a crack right down the middle, and the passenger one is bollocksed, the only bit you can see through points at the road. Good for seeing how close to lane markers you are but nothing else.

You can't even buy stick on glasses from Halfords, you have to order them in... yet you can buy paint for fuggin Allegros off the shelf.

Why didn't I think of looking for s/h mirrors instead of breaker vehicles?

Armed with part numbers from Rimmers I've managed to find a source of NOS driver's mirror glasses for £17.59/offers, so I'll see what I can get one of those for.

Passenger glasses are at least £27.50 and seem to be harder to come by so I've chucked £18.99 at a complete used mirror in the correct grey plastic instead.

My brother sent me a picture of me with my first car. I only have one other photo of it.

My Mk2 had square lights, I always wanted round lights they are much more sporty.

Round lights were the poverty pack on transits of that era. Virtually none have survived

That escort survived till December 1990 though!

Drove the Omega to Birmingham today. It is quite good at mile munching. I've abandoned it there while I head to London for a couple of days. Two days of nothing but public transport! Train journeys not as a collection caper! Heresy!

HOLY SHIT THAT HAS BEEN AN INSANE FEW MONTHS.

So, er, Hi.

Anyone got any thoughts on Honda HR-Vs? My C5 Tourer got modified by a Seat Ibiza.

(To expand: relationship imploded. Work imploded. Cars imploded. Relationships started. Then sort of imploded with lots of work put in to try and prevent that. Work imploded in new ways. Thought there was massive exciting hope at the end of all this after being very skeptical; turns out the cake was a lie. Hope imploded, life imploded some more, relationship imploded massively. And then someone ran into the car it turns out I couldn't afford in the first place and is the kind of car that still costs quite a bit to buy but is worth half of fuck-all in the trade. There were some good bits in the middle of all this, of course, and I did get to say Hi to a few people at the auction a while back).

Today was MOT day, i don't why but i always really worry when i have a MOT done, i don't know why though as I've only ever had one car fail from what i can remember.

Finally managed to do a brim to brim calculation on the Omega. 32mpg. That's rubbish! I'm pretty sure there's still a fuel leak, possibly on the return line near the tank. I think I need to get that sorted. Computer reckons 39mpg.

I used to have a 1994 143bhp BMW 525 Tds manual which I think is a similar engine and it never did 40mpg even driving to the middle of France. Locally it did 32/34, brim to brim figs with no leaks. Auto's are worse I'm told.
