That is an excellent way of masking the tyre!

I well remember doing the same wheel rejuvenation on my wife's mk3 Golf before selling it, a decade ago! However I spent ££s on some fancy Tyre Masks. I like the playing card idea and will be employing some when I do a wheel refurb on my dad's Nissan Note, again as part of a pre-sale tart up.

At least turn the cards all face down so you can still have game of poker with them afterwards!

Somehow, unexpectedly, I ended the day owning a Rover 45 Diesel. Some lovely old giffer waddled into work and asked if we buy cars. Strange really as the majority of the forecourt is 18 month old BMW 3 and 5 Series models and he's trying to flog us a 15 year old L Series chugger. He obviously spotted my V6 CLASS among the efficient dynamics and realised I knew the score. It booked at sod all, but he was determined to be rid of it, so rather than let him sell it for peanuts to some 2nd gen pikey trader I thought I'd buy it for a fair price and run it for a bit. Turns out though that what I'll have to pay in insurance monthly is about the same I pay in company car tax on a 2015 Ford Focus so WHATS THE POINT!?

So before I punt this sucker on eBay I'll offer it on here for a sensible shitter price. I'll type out an ad tomorrow, but if anyone wants a 93k 2001 Expression S Saloon with heated cow, big alloys and sensible MOT - brace yourself.

Have you got any more details or pictures, I (and probably a few others on here) may be interested.

Still haven't shifted this fucking Corsa and the car I really wanted to buy is now on eBay so will no doubt go before it does :(

Just checking over the surplus Civic before trying to flog it.

BASTARD - I just bought a 'running in' sticker and it looks shit now it's arrived with rubbish RAC and AA graphics on it I was going to cut off - that one is much better!

Me too!  I've bought one of the CtP suggested ones anyway because it's more betterer.

I finally got around to changing the top trim on the top of the door. Don't know its proper name but it wipes the rain away when you put the window up and down.... desperately important stuff....

I ordered it from Mazda in a fit of 'it won't be much, so just get it in for me' it turned up and was sixty odd quid! The old one only has a rusty bit on the ends, at that price it could have stayed... Also today went and got the screw for the door handle that some arse had wrecked and a load of clips to hold the wheel arch liner in.

So, make a start, drill out the old screw, take door trim off, notice it doesn't fit properly because there are HUGE speakers at the front of the door in the place the standard ones should have been, I count that as a win. So on with taking the window out, no sweat, take old trim off, put new trim on, easy peasy Japanesey! But, could I get the window to bolt back into the electric motor?

Could I fuck!

it's had a new window mech at some point in the recent past and it's a fake thing that doesn't fit properly. One of things I intended to sort while in there was why the window was sooooooooooo slow.... 'cos it doesn't fit properly and was mega tight on one side. Handy new drill to the rescue...

Window now whizzs up and down with the speed of light.

As a bonus, all the inside of the door has been rustproofed (when it was imported) as well as all underneath, mega clean inside and all drains clear. Only problem now is: I can;t really see the difference this £60 bit of trim has made!

Posted

The several mx5s we've owned never have wiped the window clean. Infact thinking about it, the Hondas I've owned haven't either. Maybe it's a jap thing that they don't do it?

BTW mx5parts.co.uk if you've not found it already.

Because it has only cost me £11.50, I have decided to put the theory of a Concerto rear end on a 400 into practice.  Well, a single rear light at least.  In theory, with the lights and trim and some modification to the wiring you should be able to fit Concerto rear lights to an R8 but having never seen it done in practice I'd like to know for definite.  Plus I think the Concerto rear end looks better so I'm really hoping this works.

Watched Wheeler Dealers - where they were doing a Volvo PV544, a car I know little about. What got me was - China kept the brakes standard (drums) by upgrading the shoes - all about the originality, and then stuck a massive ugly period aftermarket air conditioning system in. Weird.

Ordered one new rubber window weatherstrip for the Mondeo from Ford (£27  :-() I can't bear to order the 3 I need at once. Secondhand ones are almost pointless though.

Next week the blue machine should go in for new cambelt kit + water pump (+ new coolant, natch) + get the oil leak (rocker cover, I hope) sorted. Going to be the biggest bill yet, so my Fusion will be up for sale here in a week or two to fund it. Madness.

Saw playing cards in Sports Direct for 75p if anyone needs a cheap source

I got 2 packs for a quid from the £ shop.

2 packs is enough to mask 4 wheels if you turn them the other way.

Drove this thing home for the weekend. Top speed is about 40mph and it's quite scary to drive. I wonder when the last time someone just used this to get from a to b was?

Have you driven one before? Is it much different to the Rialto to drive?

My friends were amazed laughing at my car key last night, which is just a key and has no buttons, and that it had to be inserted into a lock to open the door.

I'm still quite impressed that it has central locking. Luxury.

Yes,I've owned a mk3 and mk4,and driven several more.a Rialto is like a modern supermini in comparison! Think three wheeled Austin seven built on a budget and your pretty much there!

Talking of tyres, the Granada will need a new set before she sets foot on the mainland for her drive-a-thon. The fronts have a couple of small splits in and a rear was an advisory on the MoT, annoying they all have loads of tread left.

Does anyone have any recommendations on tyres? Was looking at Toyo Proxys but never had anything like that before, have no idea what they are like

I have those on my 3.0S and think they are excellent!

^ I put toyo proxes T1R on mrs fp's escort rs and they are fantastic, they knocked spots off the yokohama S drive that got removed

Posted

I think the Granada may be a wee bit heavy for the proxes unless you can get ones with extra load sidewalls..

just basing on my experieces, where they seem to be very soft.
