You need a convertible too, then you can be in all four clubs!

I don’t think that I’m as handsome aa @HMC to pull that off.

As handsome as he undoubtedly is, I think it's attitude you need to pull off a convertible, not looks. Plus I'm not sure anyone is all that interested anyway. The trick is to not appear obviously self-conscious. As we all know @HMC does not give a fuck.

I'm desperately hoping that when he gets bored of this one that I won't have escaped my ongoing "midlife crisis" which actually started in my late teens anyway, also that I have enough money in the bank to buy it and the balls not to chicken out.  Now I'm nearing 50 I keep thinking I may finally be old enough to drive an MGB and I LOVE THIS ONE.

Just perfect.

You surely won't have finished your midlife crisis by this time next week will you? It's never a question of if it sells, it's when! Was gutted to miss out on the Moggy the other week - got to be quick on the draw with these things!

No, I think quite a bit more to do.

MGB news-

Some might choose the seaside;  but for the petrolhead batchelor on a hot, dry bank holiday weekend it was ideal conditions to put some dynax s50 cavity wax on himself, and some into the ‘B.

Main target areas were my face,  the vent bulkhead (previously blocked and water logged but thankfully not rotten) The  sills, castle rails (a sort of channel inboard of the sills) and any box sections i could find. Whilst i was there i also coated the bumper irons and the inner face of the chrome bumpers. Pleasingly an even closer look underneath hasn't revealed any horror stories.

Tomorrow im going to take a front wheel off and un bolt the closing piece that shields the inner arch between the front wheel and the front of the door. Check, clean and blast with dynax s50.

After removing overspray from myself i went for a potter around in the minor for refreshment. Does a misting of dynax s50 offer uv protection to skin?

If you have the front wheels off it's worth looking at the 'ledge' behind the headlights. It's a real rust trap and also causes the back of the headlamp bowls to rot through.

next i unbolted the OSF inner arch/ bulkhead closing panel to have a look…

Looks decent- so i then blasted some dynax s50 into it, managing to also coat the inside of that double skinned hinge mount, and making sure any seams were given a good going over as well… photos got gradually worse due to the carrier solvent being in the air/ and also having wax on the camera lens- mid way through

IMG_0637.jpeg.f2f48c43b723ea990e763c5235ba23cb.jpeg

I also looked at the headlamp area @chadders and cleaned up the whole inner arch and in this area used dynax UB which is a “firm film” thats more uv stable and resistant than the pure cavity wax…

It's looking pretty good underneath there, I think that you’ve got a real bargain.

Back to the being seen driving convertibles, when is the changeover from bobble hats to baseball caps and is it a sliding scale depending on the age of the vehicle, the age of the driver or both.

Asking for a friend.

Not necessarily.

I don't wear a hat and I'm not bald, I just don't like hats, I think that they remind me of school.

I think mainly depends on the weather.

Surely bald people have a greater need for a hat?

MG looks good. I don't care what hat @HMC wears.

The secret to looking cool (or at least not looking uncool) in an elderly convertible is to send it absolutely everywhere possible. (Within the bounds of reasonable levels of sensibleness, naturally.) Nothing spells giffer or poser quite like driving at 40mph on an arrow straight national speed limit road. Or getting out-dragged by a 44t artic away from a roundabout.

Also, practice your low-speed skillz.  If you can parallel park it in one quick manoeuvre - palming the wheel round with your right hand, with the other arm over the back of the passenger seat - girls will immediately dig you, and every bloke in sight will feel seriously emasculated.  (Other lazy gender stereotypes are available.)

Furthermore, should you happen to break down, make sure to swing in to the side of the road in a purposeful manner, immediately jump out in nonchalant fashion, and casually flip the bonnet. If any onlookers are around, before actually attending to anything beneath the hood, proceed as follows. For those you wish to impress:  Immediately light a cigarillo and adjust your attire; Proceed with small talk irrelevant to motoring matters, such as the weather or plans for the evening. For those you wish to get rid of, say something like "Tsk. This keeps happening ever since we were forced to put in that tankful of three star on the '07 Paris-Dakar. I'll let it cool down for ten minutes; We'll have no bother getting back".  Meanwhile, in both cases surreptitiously summon the AA using their mobile app.
