brownnova Posted April 1, 2024 Posted April 1, 2024 I saw one of these in the dealer I went to view a Saab in… the towel on the parcel shelf suggested it might not be fully water tight… Rocket88 1
Schaefft Posted April 2, 2024 Posted April 2, 2024 A mate of mine just bought one of these with the 1.6 recently for 700 quid I believe. Considering his daily driver is a 106 that's even slower he sees it as a huge upgrade for long distance traveling, especially with the leather seats etc. The roof naturally didn't work on his but it only needed a little soldering action in the door module to be functional again. As long as nothing leaks it's usually just a simple to fix electrical issue.
Hertz Posted April 2, 2024 Posted April 2, 2024 Your dog looks sad the Roller is gone... I like the Focus CC, must be bottom of the curve bargain motoring.

Popular Post HMC Posted April 13, 2024 Author Popular Post Posted April 13, 2024 Growing up there was one of these down my street. a 1.3 GL 4 door. Aged 10 you could keep your ferraris etc, what i really wanted was one of these. I absolutely loved them. Back then they were cheap first cars (around 1990) couple of hundred quid and scrap it when the mot was up. That is assuming it hadnt dissolved already, or been crashed. Then a strange thing happened. They vanished overnight and then slowly they started getting expensive. By the time i started driving they were not mega expensive, but just hard to find. My route to a mk2 escort was avoid 2 door (££££££) avoid uk RHD (££££££ plus most heavily welded or rotten) So here we have a solid LHD import 1.3GL which is being delivered next week… Missy Charm, bigstraight6, Matty and 65 others 68
wesacosa Posted April 13, 2024 Posted April 13, 2024 bloody hell. nice. my first car was a mk2 Escort 2 door in Sahara beige which I used to drive around thinking I was Ari Vatanen. If you had told me I'd be 46 and never have owned another I'd never have believed you Rustybullethole and HMC 2

Bazfr69 Posted April 13, 2024 Posted April 13, 2024 It’s amazing to think you couldn’t give these things away when I passed my driving test. I know I knocked the idea of one of them back for an 850 mini when I started driving.
egg Posted April 13, 2024 Posted April 13, 2024 Oh great, well done - I posted on the Tat thread that I thought it was a 'good deal' within the context of the RWD Escy madness. HMC and BorniteIdentity 2

There wasn't even much wrong with it, just needed a tiny bit of welding for the MOT but with what they were worth it just wasn't worth the bother. mk2_craig and Bazfr69 2
garbaldy Posted April 13, 2024 Posted April 13, 2024 I've still got two full rhd dashes left if you want to convert it, I bought 5 as done a few now, They're very easy to convert and the mk1 is easier again. Burnside, Minimad5, yes oui si and 3 others 6

captain_70s Posted April 13, 2024 Posted April 13, 2024 It's interesting that Ford tax on these is largely a UK thing, for most of Europe boggo spec cars aren't worth much more than their contemporaries. D.E, N Dentressangle, chadders and 1 other 1 1 2
danthecapriman Posted April 13, 2024 Posted April 13, 2024 I love that! Very well bought. Pretty much exactly what a mk1 or 2 Escort should look like. If it was mine, the badges and spoiler would go in the bin, and I’d sell the Capri alloys in favour of a set of dartboard steels… but that’s just me! Well done👍 Tenmil Socket, Shite Ron and aldo135 3
grogee Posted April 13, 2024 Posted April 13, 2024 My cousin had a Mk2 3-door estate in full pov spec with the 1100cc engine, appliance white. Perfect AS spec. I'm curious as well, is an RHD conversion on the cards? It must be one of the simplest cars to do it on. Burnside and egg 2

This used to be true, but traders have also noticed the higher value of old Fords in the UK though, which has affected the market. egg 1
HMC Posted April 13, 2024 Author Posted April 13, 2024 I remember in the next street another 1st car for someone. It was 2 door, in black, black bumpers, black vinyl seats, IIRC it was a 1.1. Uncle Henry’s povvo dream. Burnside and egg 2
egg Posted April 13, 2024 Posted April 13, 2024 Here was my 1.3 GL, sold for £300-400 in 2004 with a whiny diff. My Mondeo is older now (31) than the Escrote was then (28) HillmanImp, Tenmil Socket, Shite Ron and 8 others 11

It's a very strange phenomenon. A mate had one - a 1.1 Pop Plus. It was really shit, apart for the ability to tail slide at will on its rubbish old cart spring rear end.
wuvvum Posted April 13, 2024 Posted April 13, 2024 1.3 GL is a nice spec - a mate had one about 20 years ago, in navy blue with a red interior. My last Mk2 was a red R-reg 1.6 Ghia - lovely car until I melted a piston cruising at 100mph on a private section of the A47. I swapped it for a Vanden Plas Allegro - with hindsight not one of my smartest financial moves. privatewire, bigstraight6, chadders and 9 others 6 6
HMC Posted April 13, 2024 Author Posted April 13, 2024 I somehow missed out on them - i qualified in 97 but only had my own car from about 2004.
Burnside Posted April 13, 2024 Posted April 13, 2024 Nice looking Escort there. I really like the wheels and spoiler personally, as it reminds me of how I use to see them as a kid back in the early 90's. A friend of mine restored a original UK 1978 MK2 Escort 2dr 1.1 about 15+ years ago. He brought it from another friend of ours for just £150, it was full of the usual glass fibre and paper mache repairs. The only two panel that weren't rotten, was the roof and boot lid! The bulkhead was the worst panel on it, as the dash and heater box just came off without any fixings being removed. Bazfr69 1

I don't think anyone really cares about Opel Vectra As/Cavaliers outside of the UK so values are appropriately low. Same with Fiat Barchettas which were borderline worthless everywhere while they somehow held their value fairly well in the UK. As usual, supply and demand. I haven't looked up prices for either in a while though. Another great purchase. Only on Autoshite you will find someone go from a Rolls Royce to an Escort in a matter of weeks. egg and Rightnider 2

sierraman Posted April 13, 2024 Posted April 13, 2024 I remember my brother having a 1.6 Sport, peco back box on it, it seemed much cooler than an XR3 at the time. Like a fool he swapped it for a Lada, probably from reading this you’d be a good judge to say he is not a rich man these days. AnthonyG, Burnside, chadders and 2 others 1 4
