I get rid of my cars only when they a) entirely shagged out or B) too boring to own any longer.

However, I'd have given a right bollock to get my old 75 back, it had ticked over 260,000 and was still going strong and succumbed to electrical faults. I reckon if I'd tried harder, it would still be on the road today.

Ventora FD, miss that for its tractability, could put it OD top at 10 mph and it would pull cleanly right through to 110 easily.

Rover P6 3500, just a bloody good car all round, one of the best riding cars i ever had, mainly cos i kept the DeDion tube serviceable which no bugger else did.

Mustang Boss fastback 71 model, 5.7 auto which just went like buggery, near enough unstoppable from high speed with unservoed drum brakes, it had character and a right dodgy previous owner.

The one i miss most though was me early 90's 70 series Landcruiser which being built like a brick shithouse thankfully saved SWMBO from getting hurt when she went straight through some armco at about 50mph (some weird flying insect had stung her an hour or so previous and she ended up with her foot jammed on the throttle under the brake, most unlike her) , it was by far the most reliable vehicle i've ever owned.

it was my second car, i had it at 4 years old off my friends dad who worked at bl and had had added extras from the parts bin, i.e VP alloys and parcel shelf, retrimmed MG metroid headrests & montego leather small steering wheel and the cubbies next to the front seats

Thread revival as I've lately been missing my Skoda Rapid convertible which I sold three years ago. Didn't really want to, but was made an offer I thought it would be mad to refuse. As it went abroad, there's f all chance of buying it back, nor of finding another one due to now hen's teeth status.

I guess we all succumb to moments of getting real in a spirit of "you can't keep everything", but I wish I didn't.

My first car after passing my testwas actually a ford Orion Ghia 1.6 not the corsa b 1.0. the Orion died on the way home with a monumental rattle and a bang with smoke from the air vents. I look back and wish I had it recovered and repaired

J plate cavalier 1,7td GLS J681NSW owned from 94-2k and p/x'd with a cracked head for a 98 Passat 110 which I sold 2 years later and lost 6k..

Also miss my A6 Avant 2.4 Multitronic X194BFJ which I bought from auction at 5 yrs old for 4,5k ran for 2 years and sold for 3750.

Finally miss my 306 glx xud9te P514OLN which I bought from a mate for 300 with 250k on the click, put another 35k on it in a year on bio and got 1200 from insurance when someone went into the back of it, it continued to live for another 18m after being collected by a breakers who clocked it to 70k and sold it on...

All brilliant cars in their own way

Clio 172 phase 2. Fabulous machine it was, and I used it as my daily mode of transportation for 4 years. Young nephew took a shine to it, and tortured me for it... He turned it in to a track day car...

I loved my 100HP and also hated it in equal amounts.

Eveytime I see one I think they look fantastic. :(

A Pug 405 Hunter TD estate. I did a huge amount of work on it and made everything work properly, modified the heater, got the AC working well, sorted the rear axle, etc.etc.

Then it shit it's clutch, so I scrapped it. I should have just changed the damn clutch, Would probably still be on the road now.

My 2001 Jaguar XJ8. That car had wanted for nothing all its life and was in beautiful condition. But, I needed cash for a house purchase, so it was replaced by a £400 XUD Pug 205!

Chevette HS , although I would probably find it too noisy, stiff and harsh now I'm staring 60 in the face.

Senator 3.0 24v is also missed. It was a superb car, but rust got it in the end.

Don't miss either of the Fords I owned. A MK1 Crapi and tedious 2.0 Sierra. Although a would like to have the money in the bank that the Crapi is probably worth now.

I miss my purple X308 Sovereign. Got it right where I wanted it mechanically, and loved driving it. Even the aircon worked. I only sold it because of a moaning neighbor and stupid notes being left on it. Neighbor then announced they were moving out a month after I sold it.

I hate people.

My 924. Hugely regret getting rid of this rather than spending the money getting the sills done. Sadly just didn't gave the cash at the time!!!

I definitely miss my Scimitar SE6a, I'd done a lot of work to it getting it running right and definitely sold it too soon. Would I have another? Maybe, if the price was right.

I also miss my e34 M5, it was an epic epic car that I took to over 200k, it still went like fuck and was just awesome. It would be rude to say how little I paid for it with some wheeling and dealing involved but yeah, loved that car.

There's a few others but generally I get rid at about the right time-when I've had some fun but before things get too messy/expensive.

Regrets? The ur quattro I had when I was 20 that if I'd kept would be worth 10 times what it cost me. I didn't have the money or ability to fix it when the head gasket went so it languished in a lockup and was sold for peanuts years later. To the editor of PPC magazine of all people.

This everytime

Spent far too much on it, absolutely adored it and only sold it because I was out of work and needed some cash quickly.

I used wasted the cash on a cheap banger and a years insurance and ended up with nothing to show for it. I quickly realised that I would have been better off sitting on it and found money elsewhere.

The current owner has owned it for many years now and doesn't use it. according to MOT history, it does between 5 and 12 miles per year.

My current avatar pic. I eventually regretted seeing my last car go: the ex- Essex Constabulary Ford Escort 1.8 L diesel saloon. it was just a 'stop gap' car. For £250 and despite the driver's door lock failing it actually was a great car for the 6 months I owned it. The only other money I spent on it was 6 months VED (£112.50), insurance and the extremely rare occasions where it had to be refuelled. Bloody good car for 150,000 miles and an engine as coarse as a badger's backside.

Just after collecting it and having just 'frisbee'd' the "Escort Bonus" wheel trims:

Me too. "Desperate times need desperate measures", "you can't keep 'em all" etc. But sadly "once they're gone, they're gone".

I hate people.

Similar happened to me years ago. I had a garden full of East European chod and a neighbour complained I was devaluing her place. I felt bad and got rid of stuff I shouldn't have.

Surely an appropriate response to said notes would be "get in the sea" ?

I sold the Seddon earlier this year and miss it, but I just had too many vehicles. Filling up on its final journey.

My 2.4 JTD Alfa, the previous owner had remapped it and there wasn't much it couldn't leave behind. The only car I've ever had that I managed to make passengers speechless with when accelerating. The clutch was on its last legs when I got it but I managed to nurse it along for a year. I really wanted to change it but from speaking to an Alfa specialist dropping the subframe was going to be a nightmare with steel bolts corroded in aluminium. I had already experienced this when I changed the wishbones on it and I couldn't get any of the bolts out. I did love sliding into the Momo leather seats when leaving work and just blasting my worries away on the way home. I sold it to a guy who didn't want to put miles on his new car (never understood this sort of thinking) about six months after this it popped up on my Gumtree search alert for less than £300 with the clutch now slipping. I was really tempted to buy it back but the lack of my own garage facilities stopped me, from checking the reg it ended up being scrapped. :(

Was that the one Will Holman(?) stuffed up big style? (IIRC he parked it backwards into something solid at some speed).

2009 Subaru Impreza WRX

I loved that car , sold it because I was nervous about work and I got an offer that was more than I'd paid for it 2 years previously , I really regretted selling it not long after, mostly because I went for economy next and bought a 1.2 golf which lasted less than a month because I hated it , lost £1000 on it but was glad to see it go.

Regrets? I've had a few......... but not that many considering the number of cars I've owned in the last 35 years.

Obviously my first car, a 1975 Mini 1000 bought in 1982 as a 16 y/o. Should not have sold it to my car-ruining sister, she scrapped it a couple of years later.

My Alfasud Ti (in about 1988) is probably the biggest regret but logically, it was rusted to buggery (there's a shocking revelation) at the time so wouldn't have survived much longer. Really enjoyed that car though.

Golf GTi Mk1 - sold for a damn good profit in 2005 but would be worth 2-3x as much now! Again, liked it alot, got a nice Mk2 a couple of years later, never connected with that anywhere near as much for some reason.

300K miler 205 diesel - just because it'd done that mileage and drove fine. Couldn't be arsed to get it through an MoT so sold it on for about what I paid. Would make a great hack even today.

Bike-wise, a couple of Honda 250 singles are my regret, for the same reason, they were great simple hacks, ideal for town work. The 250RS was an epic rat-bike that acc. to DVLA was still taxed up to 2013!! - I sold it in 1993). The XLR250 was even better in most respects and suited my lanky frame, would like that back if I could find it (taxed & tested 'til next June when I looked).

Plus my immaculate Yamaha DT175, really shouldn't have let that go, a lovely example, really well cared for. Stupid decision.

It was lovely. So lovely. But it was pretty rough so I got out before I spent my life savings on it. I forget all about that every time I see a photo though.
