wuvvum
Don't think so. I've bought at least a dozen cars with no V5 and never had a problem. You usually get a feeling for whether a seller is dodgy or has genuinely lost the V5 - it's only an A5-sized bit of paper, it's quite easy to misplace. The seller of the 5 is a body shop (as in panel beaters, not sellers of poncey soap) so should be legit.
wuvvum
Well, I went to look at the 5 this afternoon and it's actually pretty solid, as far as I could tell from a brief poke around. There are quite a few dents in the body (including quite a bad one on the top of the NSF wing which could be a bugger to get rid of) and lots of little dings in the roof, but no serious grot that I could see. The all-important trailing arm mounts looked in good shape, and the rest of the underneath looked sound enough, if rather heavily undersealed. Unfortunately some misguided person has gone over all the bumpers and rubbing strips with Back to Black, not realising that they're supposed to be grey. Battery was dead so I didn't manage to try any of the electrics, but the interior was in fair shape, albeit not as clean as the one in my GTL. Obviously I wasn't able to try the engine or gearbox either. The bonnet catch seemed to be broken so the bonnet wouldn't shut, but being as it is a forward-opening bonnet that shouldn't be too much of a safety issue. Overall then (from what I could tell without trying anything out) a basically sound 5 that could probably be got back on the road within a couple of weekends, but not quite as nice as I'd expected. I suspect that the person who outbid me and then retracted their bid may have gone to see it and come to the same conclusion...

Richard
That Oxford is well within the catchment area for Scotland's two banger tracks. I can remember an Asia Rocsta being advertised at £1000 when it was only about a year old. The catch was that it needed a gearbox.
Spottedlaurel
About that 280C. It sold for £1010 on eBay not long back, the chap who bought it joined up on Datman's forum and got it T&Ted. He's apparently getting a President, hence it being for sale. Shame they haven't presented it a bit better...

Guest
Have you bought it then Torsten? I was intrigued about it to the point of asking how much, but in view of the transportation costs I passed up on it. Too many cars requiring work.If you get it through an MOT and want rid of it, seriously give me a shout! I'd absolutely love to add that to my fleet, it has Hirst-ride written all over it. I'm on the road with a band at the mo and have promised to pick it up after the 3rd, the thing is even if it were free, and it wasn't, by the time I get it to the smoke, fix the leaky water pump, MOT and tax it it will be over value BUT it is lowest common denominator pov spec 2wd Subaru and seeing as I have one that's road legal that I haven't touched since I got it I don't know why I've got it apart from the need to own it!
